JC Tremblay was one of the best defenders of the era. Different style than Park and Orr. Should have won the Smythe Trophy for performance during 65/66 play-offs.
@dunett70, I think he did. He was a very effective puck handling defenseman. The NHL were totally vindictive and wrong to exclude he and Bobby Hull from Team Canada in 72. Orr was injured for cripes sake.
@OldRustySteele, our parents were spoiled during this era being every game was a playoff game in a 6 team league and they actually played with pride and despised each other's teams. Today, they are all mostly the millionaire club of friends entertaining like wrestling until they start sporting beards in the real season(playoffs).
First Hab cup since 1960. A drought for them back then. Yvan Cournoyer's first cup, I believe. This was also the 1st year they awarded the Conn Smythe. Mr. Beliveau got it.
Mr Beliveau (Big John)! Go ahead! Take the cup, it's yours!
Wow! Thank you so much for this video! This is going in my favorite video section...
See how these guys were happy and proud to win… even the guy in charge of the equipments!! They worked hard to win the cup, back then it meant something…. They only gets a little bonus and being gentlemen and respectful enough to thanks everyone involve....
The good old hockey game is the best game..... (song)
I Great film - what a classic! Check out the elbow a photographer gives to another while trying to take a photo (6:30). Love the old cameras and media walking on the ice!
People could speak proper English back then -- even hockey announcers: "I think it was he to whom [the official] pointed..." Also, nobody wore those pussy helmets, either. Times have changed for sure.
The worst trade in hockey history Chicago moving Espo to Boston!!

Wow....this takes me back to my teenage years. What great -- and TOUGH -- competitors, and yet what classy guys.
Modern sports "personalities" should be forced to watch this to learn how to act !

@dunett70 That was the legendary Danny Gallivan.
I grew up in Montreal listening to him. He was as entertaining as the game.

@Thedoctorsbiggestfan No, it was at the Montreal Forum. If you look closely, you'll see the Habs' logo at center.

Do you have the times and goals scored for game 1 of the 1965 Stanley Cup final that Montreal won 3-2?

@y11971alex I'd rather say the players (and their equipment) were smaller.

@y11971alex Not really, just looks that way 'cause the corners are kind of weak

23 is "Red" Berenson who went on to star in St. Louis and coach at U of Mich.

The Montreal goalie was Lorne "Gump" Worsley, who in his time was perhaps the most colorful character to tend net in the league.
