It was like an invasion from what I read which led to a war on the streets of Brixton. It's normal for a society which existed with a stereotype for the "average" citizen to be shocked when people from other cultures immigrate in large numbers and start taking over areas. Then the riots erupted and the new people won while those against them didn't have the power to do anything about it. This led to more and more immigrants coming in and now the stereotype is long gone. Some like it some don't.

For whatever reason that triggered the riot - is not relevant, because the riot was going to erupt anyway on the basis that black people were prohibited from committing serious crimes in Brixton. Yes, there was a lot of mugging going on in Brixton back then. I'm no psycho analyst but looking back, I seriously think the institutionally racist, borstal-like secondary school environments of the 1970's might have contributed to it. Ritual racial abuse and other animalistic practices were a shocking culture clash which may have left blacks (who were a minority) scarred.

A lot of blacks were put through hell by whites, just by being in those so-called schools. Hence the grudge methinx.
