  • The last ad reminded me of when I got my free Calculator radio watch at Texaco with the tokens! I say radio but it was only static . . hehe.

  • @mitsubishe i know, the video cassettes are out of date now. and I agree with you about birds eye chicken things used to be nice back in the day

  • quinnsworth was great before tesco took it over

  • im 12 again :)

  • @UrHarRar too true we weren't americanised and weren't dumbed down by American shite tv

  • ...how far we've fallen, I miss the good ol' days...

  • happy days, when ireland was ireland, never heard a californian accent in those days, like yaw i know like, i was like, old ireland is gone

  • @UrharRar

    Hear Hear!

im so sick of people my own age (im 17) talking in a U.S. accent! It's mostly girls who do it

and when i try to argue with them and point out that theyre sounding like idiots they act as if its a good thing, it makes me sick

and another thing is that if i listen to them talkin for two long theyre american voice start playing in my head and it drives me insane

  • @feckarsebubis yes i must agree its kinda stupid alright..too many american idols.. anyway the german accent is much better

  • RIP Quinnsworth. Tesco sucks!

  • we were lucky to have a tv never mind a video player to watch said video tape lol . and the tv was most likely rented thats how bad things were lol

  • I didn't know the Irish had to buy potatoes. I thought they just caught them in buckets when it rained.

  • @Widmerpool99 christ son

  • @Widmerpool99 why is it that people who refer to Irish people as 'the irish' are all wankers??

  • @koikoiboi I'm terribly sorry. From now on I shall refer to them as 'the Welsh'.

  • @Widmerpool99 are u trying to be a cunt ?

  • @Widmerpool99 You know what an arrogant cunt is? YOU that is!

  • Is that Berger advert (which I remember as a lad) putting forward the notion that aliens created gold... and paint???

  • Nothing like an obnoxious cunt british kid to turn you off a product.

  • Did thet lightning just spunk on that rock?

  • Ah yes, I remember the esso collection crap. Every cup in my parients gaff was free with £10 of petrol.

  • Isn't the voice on the sensodyne ad still doing ads today, like the ones for products from JML

  • love these 80s ads!

  • quinnsworth!

  • I thought the old man was a gunslinger and was going to be killed but it turned out he was only going to his daughters place.

  • All I can remember from 88 is when Tasha Yar was killed off in Star Trek, although that particular episode may have been aired in 89. I still have the nightmares.

  • I remember the clinic ad alright, the berger ad is vaguely familiar too. Good to see the quinnsworth ad! 20 years old, mad eh?

  • Collecting tokens for a video tape?? God things must have been bad then!!!!!!

  • ha ha you must be young.. padraicpodge things were actually good then .. we enjoyed the simple things in life.. they will probably be saying in 50 years from now " god .. is that all ye had.?? mobile phones, Internet, hundreds of tv channels.. good luck.

  • @padraicpodge They were, the next year we moved to Canada.

  • @vix121 are u still there??? I moved to Edinburgh 4 years ago when I was 22, bloody recession :(

  • @padraicpodge Yep, im 33 now, 11 when we left. I miss it terribly, even after all these years. It's true what they say, "You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy". Goin home this summer with my wife for the first time, can't wait.

  • @vix121 Good to hear, I miss home too some of the time!! When I go back I'm always eager to come home. I really hope yourself and your wife have a blast when ye are back. But tis true what u say about not been able to take the country out of ya!!

  • @vix121 How was your trip back to Ireland?? Even with the recession, its better now than the 80's I think!!!

  • My God these ads were great, but the funniest ones were for TV licenses lol 'buy your TV license now and you could win a 3-15 day stay in a selected hotel PROVIDING YOU PAY FOR ALL MEALS EATEN IN THE HOTEL'. Cheapskates...

  • I know its weird like time stood still for 20 yrs and now all of a sudden im 28 not 8

  • Lol, Quinnsworth

  • God, I was only 4 but remember these ads so well! especially breaking the egg on the girl's head and the Sensodyne one.

Does anyone remember that really disturbing ad about people's dogs ganging-up at night to go savage sheep, it was a cartoon ad? Or did I just dream it...

  • Comment removed

  • I remember that ad with the dogs going out and eating sheep, it used to be on during the ad break of Glenroe!! I thought Maurice Pratt was gorgeous when I was about 4!! Oh the shame now.... I think it was his chirpy smile and free spuds that did it LOL

  • Hello Mr Berger

  • omsj i remember all these ads as if it was only yesterday

  • A free Kitkat... cute

  • free pint of milk ha

  • omg. the berger advert, i rememeber it well but looking at it now is that david morris from the channel 4 programe jam!!?? sure looks like him!!!!!

  • Supervalu are giving away free veg and spuds when you buy a Roast this weekend. Some things Maurice did live on!

Mind you, that cheeky little sod in the Bold ad should've got the back of his Ma's hand.......

  • Surely that sensodyne advert was on well into the 90s and maybe beyond!

  • thanks for the upload... brought back loads of memories! Especially that clinic ad... i remember that stuff... it was like petrol!

  • Mr Berger!!! lol

  • buy a jar a coffee n get '1' free kit kat. times were tight back then.

  • collecting for a video tape was funny! wonder if that promo is still going lol!!

  • All hail Maurice Pratt...

More believable than any Irish politician, with the exception of Willy O'Dea...

  • how poor do you have to be to collect tokens for a video tape?...the 80's must have been REALLY tough!

  • i remember most of these ads.

  • rasberry juice wouldnt it be worse if the poor kid shit himself

  • "these will need a soak" - i was thankful when she said it was juice!!

  • Oh those wonderful 80's hairstyles!! Long live the late 80's/early 90's!!!!

  • i remember that birdseye add!

  • Collect for the VHS tape! Haha!

  • I remember the vicious dogs ad. It was a PSA commissioned be Ireland's health watchdog aimed at encouraging people to be on the lookout for signs of the rabies virus. If I'm right it ended with a once-friendly dog turning round and snarling with evil red eyes.

  • RTE carried a lot of ads for evil creatures back in those days, I remember ads for recognition and treatment of the likes of the liver fluke and the Colorado beetle. I miss those old farming ads with the poor distressed sheep being dosed. Well, maybe the ones without the distressed sheep...

  • yeh i thought dougal as well

  • Those flash bastards and their Phillips 3 hour VHS cassettes!

Thanks for putting up the video. Brings me back. Anyone remember the old animated public annoucement with vicious cartoon dogs tearing the heads offa sheep when their owners carelessly left them out at night?

  • hahaha yea I still have nightmares about that ad!!!

  • man he was lucky to get his pjs sorted

  • WHAT THE HELL IS VHS???

  • Gawd I remember that Clinic ad, I was (lets see) about 6 at the time.

  • It really says something for the depressed state of the country at the time that the chance of a free KitKat was considerered an incentive. :0

  • Jim Megaw, wow hes cool.

  • I remember the Clinic advert, think it ran for a few years in the late 1980s and we had it in the North on UTV as well.

Your guy from Quinnsworth wasn't a patch on our Jim Megaw for Crazy Prices!

  • Oh my god... I remember all of these ads except the Quinnsworth one and I was only 4 at the time!
