When I was little, I somehow got it in my head that the guy who played Doug also played saxophone for the "Pink Panther" theme song. To this day, I have no idea why I thought this. It seems such an odd thing to have just made up, but I have no other explanation.

I also think the set and life size animal costumes are a bit surreal, but rather campy. I guess I can see why some people and children of course, would find them creepy. I like how this show is current for the decade as well as the wardrobe of Doug and Emmy Jo. It's my feeling that Emmy Jo wore short skirts and dresses to represent a little girl and Doug wore what some would call "silly looking" clothing to represent a little boy-because young children are the main audience and can relate.

Well, I didn't grow up in the 1970s when this show aired, but I like it. I remember back in early 2000 I was flipping through the television channels and I found this show. I was 15, but it didn't matter because I have always been interested in children's shows, sitcoms, and music before my time. Somehow, this was one program I had never seen or heard of. I really like this song for some reason and it teaches a good lesson.

This wasn't on mainstream Public Television, it aired in my home town on a UHF channel. I loved it as a kid very much, it was kind of different from Sesame Street, kind of hip and now for that time, 1972. I also loved Emmy Jo's mini's and go-go boots. Smokin!
