"the world would be a better place if everybody was nice to everybody else" If that doesn't scream "vietnam war era" I don't know what does. Wonderful song there.
@MONGOOSE1ful Everything was simple back then. I'm 39 so I remember watching this program as a child of the 70's. There was some really strange educations programming for sure.
I hated this show, but was forced to watch it cuz my sister & her friend loved it. This was back in the days of only 1 TV in the house and no cable. Looking at it now, its just as awful as it was then - except I never noticed until now how hot Emmy Jo is.
When I was little, I somehow got it in my head that the guy who played Doug also played saxophone for the "Pink Panther" theme song. To this day, I have no idea why I thought this. It seems such an odd thing to have just made up, but I have no other explanation.
I also think the set and life size animal costumes are a bit surreal, but rather campy. I guess I can see why some people and children of course, would find them creepy. I like how this show is current for the decade as well as the wardrobe of Doug and Emmy Jo. It's my feeling that Emmy Jo wore short skirts and dresses to represent a little girl and Doug wore what some would call "silly looking" clothing to represent a little boy-because young children are the main audience and can relate.
Well, I didn't grow up in the 1970s when this show aired, but I like it. I remember back in early 2000 I was flipping through the television channels and I found this show. I was 15, but it didn't matter because I have always been interested in children's shows, sitcoms, and music before my time. Somehow, this was one program I had never seen or heard of. I really like this song for some reason and it teaches a good lesson.
Kind of a bland show as I remember as a kid, but I do remember being attracted to the Emmly Jo at age 7 or so. So much for your 'latency period' Freud!
1:47: That's actually pretty good music for a children's show. Apparently this show's writers were into the British Psych-Folk movement in the late 60's early 70's. It reminds me of early Fairport Convention.
im sorry...where are all the shows today woth a message like the promoted? I think Im a better person for having this as a child to learn from. Thanks for a great posting.
OMG!!! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REMEMBER THE NAME OF THIS SHOW...TALK ABOUT A BLAST FROM THE PAST..... I'M 34 USED TO WATCH THIS AT LIKE 4...LOL I LOVE YOU TUBE FOR THIS
Goddess Emmy is still married to Doug. Here role was somewhat muddled. Sometimes, her character was more kid like, other times more adult, but she was both squeeky clean and incredibly hot.
This wasn't on mainstream Public Television, it aired in my home town on a UHF channel. I loved it as a kid very much, it was kind of different from Sesame Street, kind of hip and now for that time, 1972. I also loved Emmy Jo's mini's and go-go boots. Smokin! Emy Jo and Doug had nice voices to. Things seemed more promising in those days. Oh, well thanks for the post.
I've spent 40 years wondering what Emmy Jo has up under that mini skirt. If those magnificant thighs are any indication then wow! She should have done a spread for playboy.
What made is show really bad was the singing to say the least. And look at the cloths, very 70's the girl was maybe passable, but the guy --yuck!! glasses, butterfly collar, sweater and stripped pants. God kill me please.
Why do you feel the need to leave a snarky comment? Is it because it makes you feel superior to the individuals who like and enjoy their childhood memories? Trust me you do not come over as a vastly sophisticated intellectual with a biting wit. Instead you sound like a pathetically sad and bitter alcoholic. Chin-chin.
@monkeychunks1000 Doug Momary, the guy with the mustache, glasses, and striped pants, wound up marrying the fancy of many a guy in the 1970's, Emmy Jo Peden, the one wearing the mini-skirt and go-go boots. I think Doug could teach us a lesson in courtship if he could marry Emmy Jo.
BTW, if I recall correctly, 2011 will be their 40th wedding anniversary. Congrats to Doug and Emmy Jo and thanks for many great Childhood memories watching New Zoo Revue on WABG-TV 6 (ABC), Greenwood, MS.
Someone told me that my friend Phoebe Alexander from Youngstown Ohio did the voice of Henrietta Hippo. Does anyone know if thats true? I know she did several commercials on national TV. Rest in Peace Phoebe.
Look Freddie really fucked up here. Quit trying to help idiots Freddie, that damn Owl is an ingrate. That dude with the moustache needs to quit smoking pot and take of those damned striped pants!
If any of the people involved with this are watching, Thank You So Much!! This show got me up at unholy hours when everybody else was in bed. It was MY show!! It taught me that the world could be a lovely, sunny place full of giant mutant creatures... who wanted to teach you cool things! Seriously, it made me a happy toddler. THANK YOU!!
I used to get up extra early and get ready for school and watch the new zoo review. i didn't think watching such a show could have had a lasting impression. Still love that show. thanks for posting this!!!
