I am new to all of this 'stuff', so it may have been easy for me to have shrugged Derrida off after watching videos such as those by Hoodednegro (although i think hes a good guy, he just needs to be careful not to put things down which he doesn't understand - were all probably guilty of this at some points in our life!)

oh, you mean, read some Nietzsche, and then HEIDEGGER, and then Derrida.
Heidegger pervades his works, and Derrida says he thinks with Heidegger.
I've only read spurs and violence and metaphysics (for a class on levinas) so i got no relevant comments (wink).
