I already own an Imac, but have had it for a year and forgotten about the first time you start it up and the options you have to select. im buying a macbook soon, and I was wondering when you get to the wireless service option, what should I select? I have a wireless router. The router does have a password, but when I connected my PSP to the net for the 1st time I didn't have to put in a password. Do I have to when I set up my mac for the first time?
Hi. As I recall it was pretty straight forward. My MacBook found my wireless network during initial start-up and asked if I wanted to join it. I said "yes" and it asked me for the password. Typed it in and that was that!
This was my first Mac and I just like it more and more the longer I use it and the more familiar I become with it. I am happy to recommend it; I'm sure it would be an excellent machine for college. In fact I have just bought a second-hand black MacBook for my son for school, which complements his Mac Mini nicely!
Yes, you can just plug your ethernet cable into the port on the left side of the MacBook, and not use wireless (switching off wireless reduces battery use too!). You don't need an airport base station; any wireless router should work fine - I use a Belkin 54g.
Remote used to come with the MacBook, but you now have to buy it separately (at least in the UK). It's cheaper with the MacBook Air, and free with an iMac!
they should film the glad faces with the inbuilt camera during the first boot...would make a good advertisement^^ and fun for the user to watch his own eyes glow...
sounds like johnny ives!!

Soooooooo lucky. I would be fine with a G3 for crying out loud, or even a PC (shudders), just a laptop to do my schoolwork on!

do you have to enter and have an apple ID
applepie3599 3 years ago
You do not have to, but it saves you doing it later if you do it during the first boot.

Just a quick question. Does it always take that long to turn on or does it speed up afterwards?
darksideofthemoo 3 years ago
No, it's just the first ever boot that takes a longer time. Normally about 30-40 seconds.
Goldmangun 3 years ago
Thanks. Oh, and does it come out of the box with a full battery or should I leave it to charge?
darksideofthemoo 3 years ago
Mine arrived half charged. Just plug in the power and carry out the first boot, then leave it to charge up fully and away you go!

Thanks a lot. Can't wait to get mine at Christmas!

Hi. I've just finished my Ph.D in maths, and now I don't need a Windows machine as badly as before, so I was thinking to get a MacBook.
I know there are Mac versions of Mapple and Mathematica, so I suppose I'll be fine.
Just one question... does anybody know if the GNU C Compiler (gcc for short) can be used with Mac Os X??? If so, I'll be a more than happy Mac user.
Thx in advance ^_^
