I am reading a book titled "You Couldn't Ignore Me If You Tried" which was a quote from The Breakfast Club by Judd Nelson - The Brat Pack, John Hughes and Their Impact On A Generation by Susannah Gora...it brings me back to my teen years in the '80s
The Breakfast Club,Ferris Bueller's Day Off Weird Science,Sixteen Candles,Uncle Buck, Home Alone, He will be truely missed he was an Icon to my Generation..God Bless you John Hughes =)
There will never be another John Hughes, I loved his movies as a teenager, and I am happy that my teenage kids like them, I think any teenager in any generation can relate to his movies.
Diehard 'Uncle Buck' fan here, one of the best films ever made. My friend introduced me to Breakfast Club and St ELmo's FIre just a few weeks before Hughes passed away... I never realised what a true legend he was until I saw those films. RIP Hughes
RIP John Hughes, I was an influential 15 year old when I started getting into his movies and I can say I have seen probably all of them and re watched again and again, How great to have grown up with such fantastic movies and equally superb soundtracks, it made me want to go to the USA and school there just to live a day in the lifetime (preferably Ferris Buellers day anyway !! LOL) He will be missed but his movies will live on.THANK YOU MR HUGHES RIP ;)
His films defined the time they were made in. I love how his teen films were not cliche or stupid they had depth and sincerity to them. His family films in the 90's did the same. 59 was too soon to lose this talent regardless is he was still working or not.
polite question, not out of dis-respect for Mr Hughes at all, but did he have an overweight problem when he kicked the bucket? All photos of him in media are from 1984, what did he look like in 2009? I have one foto from 2001 at IMDB data base, he looked, well, portly.
It's crazy how John Hughes death has been an afterthought to the media. So many of his movies had an effect on me as I was growing up. The Breakfast Club helped me to overcome falling into a "click" or stereotype in school. I learned to be myself. Thank You John Hughes for the laughter and being proud to be a 80's Child (Class of '89). The 80's might be gone, but the movies will last forever.
Thank you John Hughes for making such wonderful films, you understood what life was like for young people in high school. I will always remember your films, because they made us laugh and cry. R.I.P
I love all his films but I grew up with Home Alone and Dennis The Menace as a kid in the 90's. I was born in 88 so I definitly respect his films from that era
I miss the 80's so much...it just seemed to be a time of nieve innocence for me, and as I was growing up and trying to understand life the world and my place in it, The Breakfast Club, seemed to open my eyes to something I cant put my finger on...and it just seemes to capture everything of the 80's period...R.I.P John
RIP john i cant believe this. he was my favourite director ever and regardless of what anyone says The Breakfast Club is hands down the greatest film ever created. my heart goes out to the family of this genius.
Now I feel like I'm locked in a vacancy... The world lost a true genius and I lost yet another of my heroes. Weird thing is, I started to re-buy many of his movies last week after seeing my TBC vhs tape and it almost falling to bits due to view after view. Watching the dvd's was weird cause it had many actors saying they couldn't wait for him to make another film and hopefully cast them in it. Sadly now, this can never be. John Hughes 1950-2009, the 80's generation will never forget about you...
Rest In Peace, John, glad that I got to work with & know you when we did the retakes on "Christmas Vacation" .. My pleasure .. short, though it was .. you did it all .. but death came much too early .. I say again, R.I.P.
Although I enjoyed some of his work --- Weird Science/ Home Alone --- I never appreciated his depiction of minorities - especially Asian Americans --- remember Sixteen Candles. But I suppose racists like him get theirs in the end...a slow and painful death by hear attack.
If you actually paid attention to the character of Dong you will realize he was a stereotype, yes, but he is also a positive character and influence on everyone else in the film. So he speaks broken English...he's a foreign exchange student...duh!
John Hughes made great films and had no negativity surrounding him like Michael Jackson did so shove your negativity and don't say anything if you can't say something nice.
it's sad, he made all of these films and every single one became classics and if it wasn't for john we wouldn't have home alone 1 and 2, uncle buck, ferris bueller's day off and many more... this legend will remain with us 4 ever and ever
I was shocked when I woke up to hear this today... such a beautiful mind to write and direct all of those classic films. He was a HUGE influence on me and my pursuit of film--his memory will be cherished dearly.
Loved trains, planes, and automobiles with the great John Candy. What a great funny film and a very talented directer. Those films in the eighties with Candy and co are just GOLD. Todays talent cant match it, FUCK I MISS THE 80s SO FUCKING MUCH!
I graduated from high school in 1983, so just before his biggest films came out. But I still really related to them since the memories, good and bad, of HS were very fresh in my mind as I tried to negotiate young adulthood.
I know he gave us many great movies and so many were apart of our lives growing up.. He was one of the greats thats for sure.. R.I.P. John Hughes 1950-2009
The world lost someone special...I thank god my sister made me watch these films when I was younger. I was young yes but I understood. RIP John I will miss you.
Us X Generation brats hold John Hughes films close to our heart because he wrote the book on teen angst comedies. Something that struck a chord in me was how he made music a focus of his films. Just think of all the great alternative rock songs you heard in 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful. These examples resonate with my childhood and all of my teenage idiosyncracies. His brand of films will surely be missed.
Sadly all his great movies wer before my time but i have to say i own nearlly all of them and wish i was a teenager in the 80's, his movies are the best..i definately know i will never forget about you John Hughes,r.i.p
Just heard the terrible news. Can't believe it. "The sportos, motor heads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads, they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude".
Weird Science is still my favorite film ever . Sixteen Candles , Breakfast Club , I forgot that he did Ferris Bueller . What a genius . I normally don't get too upset when we lose a celebrity , but I feel choked up , like a piece of my childhood is gone . God bless the Hughes family .
A true movie making legend. His films defined an entire generation.Ferris Buellers Day Off is my favourite movie of all time and is an iconic film that will last forever as will the legacy of the John Hughes era. Rest in peace John.
The director for my generation. Seriously, I just cried when I saw the news. His films were my favorite flicks in the 80s when I was a teen. I just adored his work. He was a gifted writer. Rest in Peace xo
SERIOUSLY i just want to thank you for taking the time and effort for doing this! In the same way that some people were affected by the death of Michael Jaackson this his hit me in the same way! Maybe it's because he had such an effect on my childhood and formative years (i was born in 1976) but his films have always been a constant companion and for that Mr Hughes i thank you and may you R.I.P
You said it, John Hughes was a visionary and his films spoke to us, unlike today's films which seem to rely on shock value and characters you just want to KILL, John Hughes projected messages in his films and that's why they will continue to be watched in the years to come.
Let me also add that Judd Apatow is NO John Hughes, his films will NEVER stand the test of time
If he directed Twilight, it would have been awesome. Hell if it was 80s he would use Molly as the lead actress, and Judd Nelson as the vampire, that would been friggen awesome
R.I.P. John Hughes. Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Breakfast Club are two of my all time favorite movies. John really brought the 80s to us in the movie industry.
John really had a way of pulling at our heart strings. He made me laugh, and cry. His catalog of movies are ones I've watched over and over again. There will never be another John Hughes.
Legend.
