Wayne, that skylight is such an easy fix! Buy a tiny "tabbed" curtain (like for a bathroom or kitchen window). Install hooks on the four corners of the window (they just screw in the wall), and on the bottom of the curtain cut a small hole on each end and put some plastic grommets on it. Hook it up while sleeping, let it down during the day. Either that or tack a pillow case up there. lol

putting aluminum foil over the window will screen out the light and should also serve to reflect some of the heat; back it with some medium or light density foam to increase the insulation value. A lot of renters here in the states don't let you do this because it looks bad when viewed from the outside. (They'll actually put a statement about it in the renters agreement.) But, I swear it works. I and my other engineer buddies did this when we were in college (university).
