Why did u use increase firepower ability?

There are two occasions where I use the Increase Firepower ability.

1) A ship that has just lost it's shields, because the shield drain from the ability no longer matters without shields.

2) A ship that is engaged, but not really taking any fire can use the ability safely without taking much damage.

the brode-side-cruisers can be very usefull if you use them pointfull.they can consentrate fire on a special area;the enemy fleet
