Day Smith is superhuman, this stuff is amazing every time I watch. His combos have strength, balance, originality ( no footed elbow glide!!! ) and style. You're awesome Day
@BermudaEntrepreneur Yeah, except in SoCal, the world's too crowded for this style of riding!
Nah, I kid, but nowadays, with most folks intent on posting web edits, not many friends wanna follow them around for hours just to record minutes of finished footage, so the camera's gotta stay in one place and circles keep them in the frame.
Linear combos might take riding a step closer to fusing flat and street. I can't stop imagining the possibilities.
@BermudaEntrepreneur You want to see more linear combos or more flat mixed with street riding (other than rock-walks, hang-5's & tailwhips)? I guess the more folks go linear the more fusion there'll be. It's like the way Rodney Mullen dominated street skating--he stopped spinning and hopping and began grinding, sliding caspers & darksides and threw in his techie ollies & manuals in between.
@KalaYasuda And that's personally why I think flatland lost some of it's juice. Because of web edits and the camera staying in 1 place (as you say). 90's riding and pre-internet age riding styles was the best in my opinion. Because filming was more of an ARTFORM back in the day, just like riding is an artform. The cameraman accentuated the ART of riding to the MAXIMUM! You'd think with all of this digitized Blu-Ray and shit that they'd take it to the next level. But noooooooooooooooooooooo...!!
@BermudaEntrepreneur I agree. Athough it's now so technical that it takes more time to record a completed combo, battery life and memory space are minor concerns compared to cassette tapes and old technology. It's like when I shoot photos, I sometimes forget that I don't have to worry about film and can just keep clicking. You just need someone with the patience and skills to do it, and with nothing better to do. I don't get out much nowadays, so I'd rather just ride.
This was some great footage. He also had a really nice part in, "Until Monkey's Fly." I think that one is my favorite.

I love it how he doesn't go around in damn circles on the front wheel, like the MAJORITY of riders do nowadays.

@KalaYasuda Well Mark Eaton or somebody needs to get back in the game. Because that's EXACTLY what I want to see.
