  • wow! those are the oldest finishers I've seen in my life. Concrete is a young mans game.

  • Wow, what a great video. I didn't know concrete could be so much fun

  • @LasagnaIsGood weld them

  • Oh, and another question. At the start of the vid I see you use rebar instead of wire mesh. How do you keep it in place like that? and do you tie them together? : ( Can you give me a link explaining all this?

  • OK, I need help on something. I am planning to secure a pole into a concrete pavement. The pole has a metal plate welded on one end and i plan to pour the concrete over it. My question.. how do i hold it upright?? I probably need to secure more than 40 of them simultaneously. I've been suggested to use rebar but how will that work?!

  • how much concrete costs?

  • I would fire every person in this video!

  • Is everyone who watches this a Civil eng. student?

  • paddys porridge

  • Nearly 200K views for a concrete slab. Thats just weird.

  • Anyone notice the Rola under the tarp?

  • you guys are horrible

  • i like concrete

  • Muk rake

  • nice edger that must pass in Missouri

  • Rough as guts

  • Very cool

  • k wtf you guys? .. Nothing wrong with old school. I have a powerscreed sitting in my warehouse for when I get old . Until then it only comes out on real sticky mixes like Lafarges extensia mix or when we pour suspended deck slabs . There's no point in complicating the hell out of everything with theory....British Columbia here

  • done much easier and tidy in aussie

  • Only one problem Wheres our latino brothers ?

  • Thats pathetic quality!! I would never pay for that. I could do a slab that size by myself and make it look better. That guy doesn't know how to run an edge and that guy with the float is showing you the worst possible way to do it

  • @Joleseph77 I'm guessing the guy who did the edge is going to go over it several more times before it is finished. The screeing part I would of preferred to do on my own though.

  • DOES ANYONE HAND SCREED CONCRETE IN THE USA??????? DAMN!

  • gay!!! This is the old school way of place and finish concrete. Come on it 2011 guys....

  • You make it look so easy but it doesn't. good job guys!

  • LOL The three stooges pour concrete!

  • Whats with all these wannabes hacking shit up????

  • Ive seen a lot of pours on you-tube, this one is the most similar to the way it is suppose to be done, however id use a powerscreed. even if your a powerscreed sceptic, take this into consideration, the time and effort it saves is more than worth a little unlevell spot on the floor that only tou would notice anyway. also if your good a power screed is better than a scered board anyway, in qulity and time and effort

  • @108deko

thank you for the comment. Your right a power screed would be more efficient. Old habits die hard.

  • @108deko man they are labors, a real concrete finisher uses walking tools, and they dont know how to use the tools, 20 years experience doing 1000 yards a day with 20 guys tells you, you can tell at the moment they are novices, they dont grab the tools right and those tools are shit.

  • @108deko The power screed is only good to use unless you have people who know what they are doing behind you.

  • @jimche Amen brother. A lousy mucker will ruin your day fast

  • @108deko more than you would notice unlevel spots.......... if oak flooring was laid or even tiles youd know a mile away! and also skirting boards :)

  • If you need to calculate how much concrete your need there's an Android Smart Phone app for that ..... concrete estimator deluxe

  • @rmcoates01 length x width x depth gives you the cubic meters

  • @jimche Ok, give me the formula for a trapezoidal footing which Concrete Estimator Pro calculates for you instantly! Not to mention radius, cul-de-saks, sono-tubes, cone shapes and more. Oh sorry, cubic yards though, not meters.

  • @rmcoates01 Yeah sorry, don't use one of those fancy phones when I do concreting. Wouldn't last long in my pocket.

  • 4 bags of cal ;-]

  • In Missouri we use 2" metal bolsters on a 4" slab to hold our rebar up off the ground. I havent checked but it might be cheaper than cinder blocks.. Also have you ever used fibre mesh concrete?

  • @garryt37

Our minimum specs require 4.5-5" thick pour six bag mix. We use 1/2" rebar set 2'O.C. both directions (We use 2.5" plastic chairs to support the rebar)and epoxied pinned to any existing concrete. As a rule we only use fibered mesh concrete when we have a stamped pattern finish.

  • could do without the music.

  • hi there i'm from new zealand and while i dont wont to bag you guys all the videos i've seen so far of concrete being placed over there your using old out dated methods, employ someone from here or australia and we'll show you new technecs that are easier more effiecent and will produce a much better result, like i said i'm not bagging what you do and repeat business proves the customers are happy btu there are eaiser ways

  • North Construction of Leeds did a nasty rotten cowboy bodge job of laying my base. They brought in ready mixed wetted concrete and then added buckets + buckets + buckets more water in the garden to make it more workable. It over-wetted the concrete causing it to sag and become inconsistant when dried. Proper hardcore wasn't even used I learnt later.. They won't put it right and Its wasted a lot of my money. Wished I'd have let you do mine !

  • @wonkyconky

I am very sorry to hear that. Can you report them to an industry watch group, maybe file civil charges. It helps to take photos of a project during completion for just such an event.

  • @naugleco I was in the process of reporting him, but when he was cornered he had a well rehearsed deceptive plan which I knew would have led me to wasting my time and a lot of stress, He basically lied about everything he had said or promised previously. I now know from experience with that company to obtain a 'method statement' for any such future projects. Many thanks for your kind reply.

  • I didnt see anyone filling holes with the bull, and seems to me they did a nice job, if you watch alot crete vids on here most dont even use rebar, and those that do just lay it on the ground, these guys had it up on cinder block bout mid ways, GOOD JOB BOYES, I'd hire this contractor, and old guy god bless him, I'd tell him you're in charge and heres a lawn chair kick back, you've earned it

  • At what ppoint are you ready to put the power trowel on?

  • @moosehunter2616127

when you leave an impression approx 1/8" in the setting crete. But!!!!! some areas of a large pour may be in the sun which sets up faster, or if using additives like calcium or NCA or hot water etc. will make the setting times different. But Please do not do a project based on my advise, There are concrete contractors who do nothing but concrete who might be able to provide more specific tips. We are a general contractor that just happens to do a lot of flat work.

  • Sweet Video . .

  • You guys suck, bullfloats are not for filling holes, screed it properly.

And get that old fool off the edge haha how not to do it.

  • @xchaserbro58

I'm sorry you feel that way. That "Old Fool" as you so delicately describe him is 70 years old and still finishing concrete even after bypass surgery.

  • You guys suck, bullfloats are not for filling holes, screed it properly.

And get that old fool off the edge, Haha this is how not to do it.

  • nothing like a bit of jazz for a good video

  • @stocky8789

I think we get more views because of the music then the "How To" part.

  • Get a line pump! loads more easy

  • fuckin doin that shit old school style

  • Beeee- autiful...!

  • hi frm new zealand....music sux!

get some meat loaf or abcd...ooops ac-dc.

    cheers carl

  • Yes, I was thinking of putting it to Meatloaf, "Concrete by the dashboard Lights"

  • great entertainment, specially the music setting the genre. As long as the client is happy and pays, you guys did a great job.

  • Appreciate the post of confidence. Yes the owner was very happy, We have done many projects for them over the years.

  • Now that is the key. No matter how or what you use,its the repetitive work that says it all.I for one know that egos are really huge in this industry, maybe any industry, but I know this one has it all. Some sort of "My dingdong is better than yours" syndrome heh heh.Great videos and great for archiving your work.I take cell phone clips of ours before and after shots, just in case client discrepancies.

  • nice job boys, who bought the beer?

    What was the strength?

    you doing 15mpa there?

  • thanks for your advice sir. if ur ever in canada, or need a hand, id be glad to do some business with/for you.

  • does any one in America know how to use a screed or even what one is?

maybe not, just keep draging a piece of timber over the slab, that will do it!

come down to Australia and see how the pro's do it properly. no joke

  • whats up man, u ever use the gas powered screed? if so, what u think of them? im thinking of buying one. im from canada, and never saw as many 2 man 2x4 ers

  • I have not used one personally, we are a general contractor and don't do enough large concrete projects to justify the expense, however one of my sub contractors uses one and he makes it look easy. For large projects it will reduce time and labor costs.

  • thanks for the response first off..

how are the levels with it? is it comparable to the good old 2 x 4, or is it a mess that not even the bull float can fix up after screeded? where u from any way, if u dont mind?

  • From Columbia Missouri, Like anything it takes practice, and a keen eye but once mastered definitely a time saver. I might suggest your first try with a smaller, wetter pour starting out so if you have problems can always go back and screed before it sets up.

  • I am from Missouri. Greg Armstrong poured my garage floor, and it came out great!

  • im sorry, but I deliver concrete in the US and actually very few do know what they are doing or do it corectly....many are lazy and short cut where they can, guestimate on yardage, take hours to unload the truck, pour concrete on snow, pour concrete in very cold weather then dont insulate or heat it properly, over order concrete but still charge the customer. I could go on for quite awhile this is how a large percentage operate.

  • must have been cold as shit...

  • Thanks for this video. Very helpful.

  • You're quite welcome.
