What is your point? He cooperated. There was no specific language in the TARP outlining the exact institutions who would receive funds. Paulson and gang decided that; after they gave themselves that power. It basically gives them the right to give any company $ after they make them give fancy press conferences on Capitol Hill (GM, etc.). No one enjoys watching Barney Frank on TV either, which is the worst part of the entire legislation.
The real issue isn't the TARP. It's the taxpayer money that came through AIG that is never going to get paid back. Love him or hate him Paulson dealt with a run on the banks and MMF that would have melted down the global banking system in a 24 hr period. And, the 60T in swaps floating around when WS was turning over. There are a lot of critics but how many could have stomached that meltdown.
Using the force of government to take money from one group of people and giving it to another group will only lead to , corruption, malinvestment and oppression of the taxed group. Eventually thosed taxed will produce less because of the taxes, resist by avoiding taxes or simply work less. The less wealth that is produced the worse off everyone will be.

Why? If the government has guaranteed your existence, the FASB has "softened" mark to market accounting rules, then why would any bank agree to sell someone at 20 cents on the dollar or less, etc.? What is your point? He cooperated. There was no specific language in the TARP outlining the exact institutions who would receive funds. Paulson and gang decided that; after they gave themselves that power. It basically gives them the right to give any company $ after they make them give fancy press conferences on Capitol Hill (GM, etc.). No one enjoys watching Barney Frank on TV either, which is the worst part of the entire legislation.

The real issue isn't the TARP. It's the taxpayer money that came through AIG that is never going to get paid back. Love him or hate him Paulson dealt with a run on the banks and MMF that would have melted down the global banking system in a 24 hr period. And, the 60T in swaps floating around when WS was turning over. There are a lot of critics but how many could have stomached that meltdown.
