  • Personally i think all yall city slickers should stick to ur city shit and let us country folk stick to our country shit. 90% of the south is racist. I kno cause im from the south. and we dont fuck around. i by god aint afraid to tell how i feel if u dont like it go suck a barrel of a 12 gauge.

  • @CountryGirl24075 You rock, hun! Damn straight we don't fuck around!

  • me and my brother works in harlan county coal mines its all we have ever knowed and thats what we will ever do

  • I live in Ohio, but both sides of my family are from Kentucky. These are my people. I thank them for what they went through for me to make a better life...

  • shut up you cousin fucking racists

  • lived in pike co area for several years now in florida and look back on that time i miss thoses eastern ky hills and valleys!! this song brings chills to me everytime i hear it but its a awesome song

  • i love this video. i love music like this, but i admire music like this, and it only adds to its awsomeness when you listen to the lyrics and there is a story behind it. and the damn pics! they go right along with the music, and the fact that they are actualy relavent, actual pics from the time, actual political cartoons that tell the truth only adds to the badassness.

one word sumarizes this video: perfection

  • Kentucky born and raised...

Joined the military in 1987. Didn't set foot back in Kentucky till 2000.

Heard the call... Kentucky is the best place on earth as far as I'm concerned. It gets in your blood. Life might be tough, but it's god-fearing honest work. The people who live here are the most solid I have ever encountered...

I'm gonna work this farm till I die, and then I want to be buried here on my land.. Looking at the mountains for the rest of time..

  • @sPzB41 you must have one severe malfunction and it sure aint my fault. I read the comments on your page. You talked down to other soldiers and veterans because they are not our race? how can you be a veteran of your age and be so far out of adjustment?

  • @Fockersnextdoor New word for y'all: Nun-ya.

As in- it ain't nun-ya fucking business why I don't share your high opinion of niggers.

If you got a few hours, I'll be glad to PM you all the reasons why I hate niggers. Just so y'all know: I didn't grow up a racist. I was neutral. It was NIGGERS that made me this way...

I'm a racist sonofabitch and I make no apologies for it.

    Don't like that? Then FOAD.

  • god help me this music speaks to my soul.

  • My grandparents work their hands until they bleed they were Hazard Kentucky

  • @kaydaily86 My Dad is from Hazard.

  • i was born in Harlan, KY and all my family have been coal miners. My dad took me 3 miles underground when i was 6 years old. I have the upmost respect for all coal miners and the risks they take on a daily basis! this is a great song!!

  • My grandparents were Fr here

  • Omg...I absolutely have fallen in love with "Justified" and this song. Not to mention Timothy Olyphant is so yummy and absolutely makes the character. Can't wait for season 3. I am so hooked and have really came to realize how life was for people in Kentucky.

Thanks to all the coal miners who risk their lives everyday for us.

  • All my kin were coal miners... back in the day when anthracite was king in Pennsylvania. Mines went bust after the broke through the river bed and flooded out the shafts... what was left caught fire and keeps burnin.

  • Born and raised Michigan girl, honestly I'd rather live anywhere but here, somewhere with beautiful scenery EVERYWHERE. Heard this song on Justified, which adds a whole new depth to KY for me, I guess I let stereo types get the best of me! Sorry people those stereo types affect, they aren't right about everyone!!!

  • I was born and raised and still live in the great state of Okla and I want to tell the people of miners families a big Thanks and I have the greatest respect for you and your heritage. What an awesome legacy they have handed down. The faces of the the people are priceless, The sacrifice they made just to put food on the table. You are a crown jewel in the history of this great country. Thanks to those that had the grit to go into those mines for such little money. We owe you a debt beyond words.

  • Born and raised in Knott Co, just a few miles from Harlan.I worked the coal mines of the region, and I am very proud to say I am an east Ky Mountain Boy. I am related to Ralph and Carter Stanley, and I carry on our bluegrass traditions with Honor. D.Stanley

  • Floyd County born and raised!

  • I was watching the show "justified" and I said to my dad, who was born in kentucky. "Do you know about harlan?" he goes "we all know bloody Harlan" he said "they will kill you there"

  • Proud to be born in Pike County :)

  • Grew up in SE KY (Woodbine, outside of Corbin) and now live in Seattle, WA. Since I joined the military at 19 years old in 1996 I've lived just about everywhere. But there is no place I'd rather be from than the hills of KY. To some, the people in Appalachia may seem backward, but people put that label on a lot of things they can't relate to. Until you've walked in someone else's shoes, don't make assumptions about where they're from or where they are going.

  • Good post. I was born and raised in paintsville which is not too far from harlan, We have the van lear coal mines there. The same ones that loretta lynn's daddy worked. I left in 2002 to take a job here in TN and i have to say KY will always be my home, great people, great traditions, and the best scenery on god's green earth.

  • My grandfather was a union organizer for the coal miners and was murdered before my dad was born. He was from Harlan County and coming from a line of coal miners I have nothing but respect!

  • Fuck you bunch of City MF's you wouldn't make it in these mountains, I don't live in Harlan county but I live on the border of Harlan county in VA. You Yankee fucks can go to Hell.

  • @isaacrose33 youre an idiot.

  • i love it.

im from a town of 458 people. in bryson city nc. they can kiss our country ass lol

  • Great song. And lol at all the trolled red necks on here. I'm gonna go drive my Hummer around the countryside and smoke Marlboro Menthol 100's. Yuppie for life, red neck fucks.

  • @havokminded .... hahaha u spelled would like wood!!! get an education before u logon and broadcast your stupidity to everyone in the country

  • I'm not from Kentucky. Pennsylvania born and raised, but song hits to home when ya think of the small towns we were raised in. But it defines who we are and I can say I know where I come from. How bout you?

  • I love this song so much and it makes me really jealous seeing people commenting saying they've lived in Kentucky or other places all their lives. I'm English but I'd kill to be American.

  • I live in washington but used to live in OR ..and i grew up their and i cant wait to get back to the hey fields and rise some hell

  • My papaw was a coalminer until he wasn't able to and he passed on from Black Lung, every since then I missed he so much, I got Cousins and Uncles in the Mine, and Im Proud to say Im a son of a Coalminer from outta Hyden, Kentucky. Hell I might carry on the Tradition! Can I get a "HELL YEAH" for The Kentucky Miners, and for any of you out there in the mines trying to support your families and make ends meet, all I got to say to you is, Thank you so much for keepin the Lights on.

  • Wow. What a haunting song! And I'm from the Northeast!

  • what an amazing version of this song, didn't know brad did a cover of this! gives me the chills!

and to all on this video saying bad things about "rednecks", we've all got a little redneck in us, every last american does.

proud to have been born in virginia, raised in wisconsin and living in southern illinois

  • People who haven't lived here can never truly understand what life in appalachia is like.

  • & for all you people hating on "rednecks", its a life style you will never understand. to us, your just a bunch of city pussies who listen to rap and think its cool to hold a pistol sideways.

  • @MarineSGT1987

i aint got to hold my shotgun sideways to shoot the head off a damn city pussy

  • i worked the Harlan KY mines before i joined the marines. Huff family.

  • My mom's stepmom which I guess you could call her my step mamaw is Debbie Caldwell which is the Newspaper editor in Harlan County and she sent all the actual pictures to the show Justified but I honestly don't like the show cause It's really nothing like Harlan County is.. And it's so off brand its crazy. I mean the most they could do is actually film it in the state of Kentucky.

  • All I can think about is Justified, and it's not a bad thing.

  • I used to live in Harlan, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • My mom is from Harlan Co., her family moved to Detroit to work in the auto plants in the 50s.As a child we would visit Harlan once a year. Beautiful memories.Over the years i've heard stories of family working in the coal mines.Brutal work, worse than the car factories. I had no idea Brad Paisley had a song about Harlan, an excellent song too.

  • Born and raised in KY. And proud of it.

  • welp im gonna go get my below ground mineing card off to bvile

  • I just hope that neither of them are rolling in their graves when I say that I would never be tough enough to grow up, work and suffer like they did. No matter my farmboy upbringing, to be faced with such crushing poverty and adversity and danger and pain and torment and still be able to get up every morning is a "real life Shawshank Redemption" from any sins any of them had ever committed. I love you, great grandpa and great great grandpa.

  • My great grandfather and his father were 2nd and 3d generation Anglo-Americans and the son and grandson of a Civil War veteran. Great grandpa saw it fit himself to go off to a far off country called France to fight in World War One. They were also coal miners in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. I'll never know what they went through in "the land that God forgot". I quite frankly would never want to know. Any man who will go below ground, whether he has too or not, is a brave soul.

  • And here I thought it was written for FX's Justified. Like this song and LOVE that show.

  • Yep, from Sudbury, Ontario. Dedicated to all of the men and women who choose this path...one that I am too afraid togo....

  • Dedicated to all members of District 12...May the odds be EVER in your favor

  • I'm from morgantown wv my whole family mines coal.this is a awesome song.

  • born and raised in princeton KY!!

  • This song speaks to all of us from mining towns. It's haunting, dark and yet inspirational. From us up here, in the Nickle Mining Capitol of the WORLD, we heard every word and we understand.

  • @reallyconcernedabout so your from sudbury?

  • @minecraftaddict13 they don,t know any better ,or they don,t care. i lost someone i loved very much.

  • Its been years since I've lived in Kentucky, though I never lived in coal country this song still hits me in that soft spot.

  • great vid. love the pics and political cartoons

  • For those of us who grew up most of our lives in southeastern Kentucky. This song is really quite haunting. It really strikes a cord!!

  • @GBeret83 thats so true and it is haunting im papaw worked in the mines and saver 5 people Drudge them out of the minse and saved them all my family work in the coal mines and im proud to live in kentuck theres no othere place like this

  • @dakota7325, I've been back in southeastern Ky. for a long time now. But during the years that I was in the military, I used to joke around and tell my Army buddies: When you go to bed at night, be sure to say all of your prayers. That way, when you die, you'll go to Kentucky!! LOL.

  • @GBeret83 Is were im gonna stay and i ant gonna move thell have to kill me first

  • In loving memory of a longtime, old friend of mine, Randy Lucas!! Who, unfortunately never left Harlan alive. A great man, and great friend!!

  • wow, it is just amazing. Even I am a stranger living far far away, (istanbul) after all the tv shows I watched, I just started watch justified, for fun, for spending my free time.

I can barely say, that show is much more than hollywood bull shit. great story, great plot and marvellous acting. I think I kind a felt being from a southern county and the way of livin' people over there.

    Salute to Harlan county.

  • love this song even though i'm not anywhere near Harlan. Think everyone who comes from a family of hard working Americans can relate doesn't matter what part of the country.

  • For all those who never left Harlan alive, Give them a thumbs up for there sacrific. It's not right a TV show has stole the true meening of the song from them.

  • its official im getting out of my shit hole town in tennessee and now im moving to elkhorn city.kentucky

  • @ponypeckermunch666 seee you there come to phelps kentucky ill see you there

  • @dakota7325 right on man

  • Pretty damn cool bro.

  • My mother walked out of Harlan Cty when she was 17, in 1944, and never went back. Told my Dad she'd go with him anywhere, but back to the mountains. Told me if I ever moved to the mountains she'd just knock me in the head to end my misery quickly. Harlan is beautiful; the mountains call to me, but I'll never live there.

  • 13 people never left Harlan alive.

  • Awesome song.

Not playable on iPhone? ... The fuck?

  • I am an Harlan Kentuckian and I love Harlan my papaw and my brother is coalminers and I`m gonna sing this at our school talent show and I`m dedicating it to my school and Harlan county

  • This song reminds me of my family. My mom's side of the family is from and most currently live in Harlan County, Kentucky. My grandfather was a coal miner.

  • @MrBlacken1966 I love harlan county I`ve lived here all my life my papaw and my brother is coalminers and on my funiral day im gonna have my family play this song I am an halran kentuckian and if anyone doesn`t like it they can go back to where they came from

  • @yoridevynbestiez About this song. I used to work at Churchill Downs training horses and I know that's a long way from Harlan County but even there it seemed like forever waiting to go out on the track because it 's so dark so long. That was always a mystery, but I liked your state a lot

  • this makes me feel like putting on my cowboy hat

  • @jstone114 a bit far to the east for that... :-)

  • 13 guys left Harlan alive... let's go shoot them!

  • Comment removed

  • waving hundred dollar bills, he said i'll pay you for ya minerals

  • Well done!! To me, that's America and it makes me proud!!

  • pround wife of a miner thinks to everyone who sing for m miner man.

  • pround wife of a miner thinks to everyone who sing for m miner man

  • i love this song... my great uncles were outlaws in Harlin and redbird in Kentucky outlaws were people police would never go around in these parts what you see on justified aint even close to the reason this song was made those mountains were cut off to all law enforcement anyone who stepped foot on the mountain with a badge would be shot down in a blink of a eye. R.I.P the olden days

  • i think i might just move to harlan just to say ive lived there, and so i can relate to the song

  • @chaserohn1 I was borned and raised in Eastern Ky and I'm never leaving alive! There's no way out once your in so think wisely......

  • One of his best songs....

  • My mom was born and raised in Kentucky, so she really liked this when whe heard it on Justified, I really didn't want Mags to die :(

  • Thank you Brad for recording this, Having relatives in mining makes it hit home.

  • Hell yeah to living in Kentucky!!!

  • @pokemonloverme what's justified? i'm here cause of brad paisley. i first heard this song on his album.

  • @sirblackius, it's an amazing TV show on FX that takes place in Kentucky. The main character is from Harlan and this song has been played at the end of both seasons. It is extremely fitting for the show.

  • @kilroyishere1 I hardly can imagine that Paisley just plain out sucks. That's a mighty bold statement isn't it? I'm sure there is a great reason as to why he is a successful musical artist, and you are on that can't quite tell what musical talent is.

  • I live in Bell County, Kentucky so what is wrong living in Harlan County, Kentucky tell me

  • didnt that mountain like rip and half and fell and killed alot of ppl bc they mined to much? or is that a different place?

  • Brad Praisley can't even come close to Patty Loveless on this song.....matter of fact, he just plain out sucks......

  • beautiful visuals for a very moving song.... thanks :)

  • i know Harlan has alot of history but i live in new york city..sorry i cant see my self living there! btw great song!

  • @pokemonloverme You know.. I know New York City has some history but I live in Harlan Kentucky, but I could never see myself living in New York City. But you should visit some time you're always welcome. Visit some of the coal museums, the coal miner monument at the courthouse, the sand caves, knobby rock, kingdom come state park, and so much more! On Thursdays come out to the courthouse and you can hear me and more groups playing traditional bluegrass songs. This song is even played sometimes.

  • Harlan is the only place i have ever worked where the sun truly doesn't come up until 10 am and falls out of sight by 3. it's just a song, but it sings about something that runs much deeper than the coal we go after, it's about our way of life. Our heritage. Who we are.

  • Patty lovelace didn't write it, but everyone who sings it makes it their own, this is a great version.

  • patty lovelace lived through it brad didn't

  • my father died in the coal mines of harlen , and i'm proud to be his son .........

  • i live in Harlan wouldnt trade it for nothing!!!!!!!!!!1

  • im from knott county ky, i lov this song everyman in my family has always mined coal and i plan to continue the tradition...god bless the american miner's withought us you wouldnt have electricity. so ty for uploading this. still gives me chills when i here it.

  • Thumbs up if u dont care about Justified or ANYONE who plays in it and you just like this song!

  • @dawnandrick1 i think the only reason people are here is cuz of justified lol

  • thumbs up if you live in harlan!

  • this song always tugs at the heartstrings for me, Darrell Scott sang it first, but this is a really good cover.

  • im from johnson county kentucky nut this is one of the best country song ive ever heard

  • @IShallBeReleased67 My folks came from Johnson County, but even if it ain't Harlan this song still speaks to my family's journey. Papa and his brothers worked the mines, and when he passed one of the things he left me was a pick he used.

  • My Daddy was raised in "Punkin Center", in Evarts, Harlan Co. KY. I am proud to be a coal miners daughter.

  • @CrystalShumateNorman My daddy was raised up on Cranks Creek, but moved to Indiana but later on his folks moved down to Evarts.....

  • @ATSMFblog no acctualy this was you just didnt see it thats all
