@gck86 It won't be as cold as an air conditioner, but it is way better than just having a fan. Make sure your room is well ventilated, otherwise the room will get very muggy. If you live in a high humidity city, then this won't be very effective. These are made for drier climates.
Yeah i get that u like building stuff and the satisfaction u get from doing it but ,but it just doesn't look safe ,that fan wasn't built to run near water and has no safety cut out
Shit my $69 cooler has a remote and timer ,3 speed fan ,swing mode and more and its a lot more safer and efficient than that thing .Can't u people save 5-10 cents a day over the cooler months and buy a proper one ?
@SuperMaxpower007 Building these projects are a hobby for me that I enjoy. I guess I enjoy the thrill of being able to build something myself out of ordinary materials and it actually works! Besides, the cost for my project was only $20 since I had all the parts sitting around the house.
nice vid, i live in southern australia where the temperature in summer regularly surpasses 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). would be good in my room as a cheaper alternative to refrigerative air-conditioning as we also get very hot, dry summers
@in2cycles This way would also theoretically work since air is still being passed through the wetted pad. However the force of the air will be a lot less than my current setup.
@FridaCalaca Not sure the energy usage. I am running a Lil Blizzard 8 inch fan as well as a water pump. Both of these are AC and not DC but there is nothing on them that states wattage.
@miasmablk I don't run it too often, so I am not worried. I keep a door open so it doesn't get too humid. Plus my computer is on the floor under the cooler, so it is out of the direct stream of air.
@MrDixiepride1234 Are you saying use alcohol instead of water or can alcohol be added to the water? Won't I need to keep running out and buying more?
@gigi172 Yes, the frame was built from Legos. Out of the materials I have laying around the house, the Legos were actually the best for holding the pad. They are plastic and won't rust. Plus I was able to build the exact size I needed. Took less than an hour to build.
@darkpal123 If you are wondering how this compares to ice, then I can say that the ice will produce colder breezes when the ice hasn't melted, but as the ice melts the temperature will get warmer. That is why I prefer this evaporative system since the water will last a lot longer and gives a consistent cooling effect. Neither this system or the ice system will replace regular AC. Both are personal coolers. However the ice cooler won't humidify the air like the evaporative cooler.
hey very nice cooler! smart idea on how you mounted the fan! i think my pump is pushing to much water to the pads so it restricts the airflow alot. im working on perfecting mine and getting it as effeicant as possible. i thought doubling up the pads would make it cooler but all it does is restricts to much. it seems i get cooler air with just one. im working on building a swamp cooler that puls air from outside with a in house ac unit duct.
@animebsd I tried doubling my pads, but I couldn't get the water to wet all of them, so I just went with this single pad. Not sure how this media pad compares to the Dura Cool you have, but definately both of these are better than aspen in my opinion! Adding ice to the water also helps. I'm building a second swamp cooler that uses an air purifier from Goodwill that I took apart. I do like the squirrel cage fan it has, although a bit noisier than a regular fan. I may post a video soon.
amazing!

If a pet or a kid knocks it over it wouldn't be good to have electrics and water mixing ,plus u have it sitting near your computer ,which is electric

Very cool! You wouldn't happen to know the energy usage on that unit, would ya?

your not worried about the condensation produced by the evaporative cooler ruining your computer? o_O
