  • I wish that artists such as Robeson still got the recognition they did back in their time.

  • He was a Communist , So what everybody is entitled to their own opinion and beliefs dont judge this remarkable voice on the mans politics, their are many on the right who cant sing a note and are absolute shitbags .

  • I don't get these comments. The Voice is still stunning in this recording. Paul Robeson was one of our greatest artists.

  • @BarackOreprobate It was his last recording. He was ill and depressed. If you want a fair picture of this man, you should read Martin Duberman's biography. Did you know he sang and spoke in Yiddish in Stalin's Russia? Whether you agree with his politics or not, he was a kindly generous man, supremely talented and deserves more than to be written off a just a 'commie'.

  • @BarackOreprobate Oh dear, he was a COMMUNIST!!! How APPALLING!! I suggest you read the Wiki on Robes, and then you might find out WHY!! You redbaiters make me want to throw up.. Get back under your stone.

  • @johnydee15 - He was a communist because the land of the free (at that time) wasn't. He had more freedom in communism than he had in the US.

  • Truly beautiful .... reminds me so much of my beloved dad who has just passed away and was a wonderful singer also

  • damn thats low man how low can he go

  • Thank you so much. I also have the LP where it is from but I have no clue to put it on youtube; so thanks to you many people can enjoy the marvelous rendition of this song.

  • WHAT A MAN AND WHAT A VOICE IS THIS ONE OF HIS VERY LAST RECORDINGS? I LIKE WHEN THE ATHORITEIS ASKED ARE YOU A COMMUNIST, AND HE REFUSED TO ANSWSER., SO THEY TOOK HIS PASSPORT FROM HIM. HE WAS A STRONG MAN AND FOUGHT HARD ALL HIS LIFE. HE SUNG HIS SONGS WITH PASSION HE SANG OF THE OPPRESSED. DONT WE NEED HIM TODAY?

  • This was Paul Robeson's last commercial recording, about 1960 with the Williams singers and Geoff Love. I'll walk beside you is also on it. His voice sounds a bit shaky.

  • is this an old 78 running at 38.Unfortunate choice for Robeson, if he had sang it like Pinza then we would all have this in our saved list

  • @brucemichreb

It's not an old 78rpm, but a 9,5 ips mono tape, and the speed is correct.

  • @brucemichreb

it is obvious that you are devoid of class to appreciate Paul Robeson. Pity you!!!!

  • @sudiptakiran i agree. the next guy to dare mock sing old man river will feel the fury of my fists! I don't think that they were trying to mock it when they sang it in the simpsons
