I love going to New Orleans and hearing the street musicians, most are better than any that you'd pay big money for tickets to go see. Best thing to do (and all tourists need to remember this) try to have at least about $20 in ones on you so you can tip them. It's rude to stand there and enjoy the music without paying because without tips they can't survive. Same goes for the statue people, tip them if you pose with them for pictures. Thanks and come enjoy New Orleans and the surrounding areas!
love the scat bands here. and not all of them but you can definately tell whose a tourists when they ignore the scat bands like theyre beggers haha i just which they could stop and enjoy them for a second
@hibbart55 This "dude" is a personal family friend of mine i grew up with, Herman Hack from uptown Carrolton. Herman, if you're reading this, I'm Gerald, remember me ? lol. Great job on that trumpet (as usual). Harriet says hello too.
@earart I'm currently living in Houston, Tx. and i haven't seen Herman since before Katrina, but you can contact him through his page on facebook; Herman Hack Bartholomew........I miss N.O. also :(
That's Herman Hack blowin' that horn, 'ya heard me! This Christian guy has been at it for a 'lotta years. He's a personal friend of mine since forever, lol.
that guitarist is phenomenal. changing between very difficult jazz chords with ease....and it looks like hes kinda improving a little bit too....amazing.
the trumpet player holds that note by a method called "circular breathing", where you actually blow out thru your mouth while breathing in thru your nose at the same time---impossibly hard to learn!! the only other player i know who could do that was the late, great jazz trumpet genius Maynard Ferguson!
i miss NO...the street musicians all just blew me away!! awesome town
Thanks for posting this video. It takes me back to our visit last year to N.O., the best part of our holiday in the USA. I enjoyed ALL of the trumpet players solo not just the long note, The guitarist was pretty tidy as well.
My 2nd cousin tony lujan and i both play the trumpet. I'm sure yall have heard of tony. Anyway, that was an outstanding note he played because he hardly wavered from that same pitch he started at. Loved it.
@Filarpamp there's a method of continuous breathing that allows him to do that. you breath in through the nose while breathing out through the mouth using air stored in cheeks. its called circular breathing.
HOW COULD THEY JUST WALK BY? When I was in N.O. for a month, all I did was stop and watch ALL the great musicians!!! I live in Manhattan, and WE don't have talent like that on every corner! What a gift!

@Filarpamp there's a method of continuous breathing that allows him to do that. you breath in through the nose while breathing out through the mouth using air stored in cheeks. its called circular breathing.
