Love the idea, and it was very well done too. Loved seeing Fast Freddie on the pole. Back in the day, he was the family's favourite driver. (Except for my sister; she was a Petty fan. We disowned her of course :) How did you decide the starting order?
Speaking of Petty, back then we almost never called him Richard. It was always Dick Petty. Then he stared winning championships and he suddenly became Richard.
You did miss one driver though. My favourite independent Herman "The Turtle" Beam!
Glad you liked it! For this one, I had an idea of who I wanted to put in for the first few rows (Petty, Lorenzen, Dieringer), but the rest I kind of threw together. In these next two grids, I'm pairing drivers with similar traits.
I was wondering if there were any Herman Beam fans out there! I thought about putting him in with that whole science teacher look he had going on, but I decided to cut it off at 43.
Interesting about "Dick Petty," I didn't think that name was so commonplace.
Actually Richard said that his mother was the one who got people to quit calling him Dick Petty. She said, "If I wanted him to be called Dick, I woulda NAMED him Dick; I named him Richard because I wanted him to be CALLED Richard!"
And about Herman the Turtle... I heard a story about a race where they drew for positions. They fixed it so he won the pole. When the field came down for the green, he cut down pit road, let the field pass and rejoined at the back...
You are awesome! They are the heroes that began this great journey and made what NASCAR is today. Thanks to all of them and thanks to you for bringing up the cars and stars from back in the day.

Maybe i wish part 2 of the starting lineup will use the 1985 Miss USA Opening Number from NKerri or the Electro Phantasma by Dave Grusin!
