I love these old horror movies. They are much better than the blood and guts movies now days. The suspense is fun. I recommend you watch these movies with a group of people that love to talking during movies.

It looked like a straightforward fight between good and evil to me, and that is the province of religion rather than science. Science is silent on such questions. Many of these horror films have a religious undercurrent, inevitably so since they involve people fighting extra-rational forces. Call it good versus evil, horror works beyond the margins where science applies, beyond the limits of reason. That's the whole point of such films. It doesn't make it propaganda, mind.
