i bought a mantis tiller last year for my allotment great tiller for small areas i tilled all mine approx 25 feet by 18 in half a day but that was with a lot of grass and weeds should be easier this year as plot is covered in weed control fabric, the only fault i found with it it leaves an untilled strip of soil you have to criss cross a bit, i find them best for tilling between rows o0f veg quicker than hoeing
@23asparagus That is how the instructional video shows it--that is how it came from the factory and that is how it is suppose to be. If you turned it around the tines would be turning the wrong way. Sorry you are just wrong--LOL
What a hunk of junk! I've found that in larger gardens, cheaper and better to just hire someone with a real tractor. Had my garden tilled with a 40HP John Deere, 75X60ft space, 3x's over, in 45 minutes, cost $70. Saved my energy for hilling and planting.
what a toy and piece of shit! Who would buy a tiller you had to run backwards with to do a job? it has no wheels or plow bar for control, is so narrow and top heavy that it cant be controlled, and its in plowed ground. Try that trick in new ground and see what you get!!! Either get a wheeled tiller or one with plow bar, or if you can afford it, hire a friend to till withhis.
I took a 1/2 inch pvc pipe, drilled out the side end and ground it flatter, sealed the end so I could then glue around the intake holes. Now the intake is 1 foot above the tiller so that a lot of dirt doesn't just go right into the carb/filter. Sort of like a snorkel. I used the best black permatex glue which is pretty strong but it can still probably get knocked off. I use regular silicon glue to seal the filter edges and the cover edges too, so that should help hold up any extra weight
Is it possible to use this rototiller for a 10 acre rubber farm in India? What make it is if any of you know of any dealers in India pl. send me an e-mail to 66leslie@gmail.com
This is a good tool but proper technique is pulling it backwards. Pushing it will only hurt your back. If you pull backwards you get much more power from your legs in a slightly crouched position. Generally all pulling motions in the garden are superior to any pushing motion. Better for your back, better aerobic exericse, uses larger muscles (of the legs, buttocks and torso)
wrong direction dumbbo.... GET a roto tiller THEN use this cultivator for during the season between your rows.... red necks are freaking retarded and cheap people
works good for weeding rows and flower beds makes quick work of small jobs, but aint worth a damn for bustin sod. it will,,, but not for a whole garden, just a flower bed. best if used dragging backwards. it digs in better that way. i like mine, but it is for a certain uses, not what they claim.
I just used one to till an area about 30x100 and I took me about 2 hours to make 3 passes over it (it was hard clay and I wanted it extra soft and fluffy). I was using the 4-cycle version of it, which makes a whole lot less noise than the one in this video. After this experience I am retiring my old back-breaker of a Troy Bilt.
So this DOES work on Hard clay? Does it matter what moisture level the clay is at, because mine is like wet play-do and we were using a pick axe and it took over 4 hours to do less then a 4 sq ft :-(
@minibulldesign 45 minutes a 900 sq ft at max depth like in the video. The tiller must run with steroids. lol good video though I'm looking to purchase one but can't decide between this one and the Joe tiller!
I LOVE my little tiller. Its not a Mantis but it's easy for me to carry! All girls should have their very own tiller- and the Mantis is a great one! Good video!
Thanks for posting this. I just bought one and so far only got to see the sales video clips -- which of course makes it seem fast and easy. Nice to see a "real person" using one!
can you break up and human corpse and bury it with that machine? I am looking for a quick and economical way to dispose of bodies. Ideally, I am looking to chop them into small bits and grow a garden on top of them.
Not sure about quick, but I get rid of my unwanted cadavers in a traditional composter. Save the heads though. Slice the top off like a boiled egg to provide a nice ornamental pot for herbs or garlic.

The handles are connected the wrong way. The petrol tank should be away from the handles. You pull the machine towards you.

Hell, the soil is already tilled up. I am not impressed. Put it on some ground that has not been touched by a tiller.

that soil is nice.

go4thus 2 years ago
You have to wait until it is drier - tilling wet clay is a mistake - hard to do and it really screws up the soil.
bobatsdi 2 years ago 2
it looks like a good tiller, but it's not wide enough. it would take 3 days to till a 20ft x 30ft garden.
TrapHunt 3 years ago 7
In reality it would take about 45 minutes but who's counting

@TrapHunt why oh why would you till a 20ftx30ft garden?..... its for already turned over planting beds.....

It works better if you pull it backwards. Walk it up...dig it in and then pull it backwards.
GradyWhite2007 3 years ago 2
True. This prevents "skipping." The same could even prevent damage to the cutting teeth.

No longtang1234, you'll want to use a large
chipper-shredder. That has worked best for me in the past.
