They are not baby chickens nor ducks. When a chicken is pregnant it lays baby eggs. Chickens are seperated from hens in an egg producing farm. Your average egg doesn't contain any life. That would be more expensive, don't you think?

@N0ahW actually, to make your case more stronger...all an egg is at the very beginning is albumin (white) and yolk (yellow) which are the nutrient supply IF the egg is fertilised by a rooster. After fertilisation, which does not happen on farms..there will be a very very very tiny cell in it that will eventually grow after some time into a chick.
