The refs didn't have access to a replay they called a full speed call while under the pressure of the NHL to stop head shots. Was it clean, YES. the problem with the hit was that Ladd charged in to him and should be labeled as charging and nothing to do with a head shot.. If you see one of the replays he charged towards D'Agostini with the intention to hit him hard. It was just bad luck that the shoulder hit his head. If you think about it from a physics perspective all that force going towards a head moving the other way will have dire consequences. Incidents of charging should be looked at more severely.

It's not dirty. It just looks violent. It's a clean hit. People think he elbowed him but if you look at the still frames it's clearly his shoulder and Matt's head is almost at the level of Ladd's Stomach.

I was in the 300 level at the game for this hit, and from where I was sitting it looked 100% clean. Fans cheer every hit because you can't tell instantly.

It's not dirty. It just looks violent. It's a clean hit. People think he elbowed him but if you look at the still frames it's clearly his shoulder and Matt's head is almost at the level of Ladd's Stomach.

There should be a short suspension.
It doesn't matter if his feet left the ground after the hit. The point is all of his momentum was going up for the hit, that is why his feet left the ground and that is why it's illegal.
There was no elbow but the hit was to the head. Matt could have protected himself better but he didn't have much time. The body checker MUST ultimately be responsible for the hits they deliver.

Problem with suspending him is the fact that you know it will be a huge issue because of all the worse checks in the near past. 2 relating to the hawks are the hit on Towes and last years Kronwall hit to Havlat never resulted in a suspension so what makes people think this will. This one was Matt's fault Ladd wasn't aiming for his head Matt just put it there

The Elbowing call was terrible, its clear there was no Elbow. I could have excepted charging because its atleast boarder line, but Elbowing is completely wrong, maybe this will be a lesson for a player to keep his head up, but when a player comes out of the box like that it can catch you off guard, but you should see it coming.

He hit him with his SHOULDER, and the skates came off the ice because of his momentum, and Dagostini trying to get out of the way at the last second. Ladd didn't jump, didn't throw an elbow, didn't close line him. It was a good solid hockey hit. Get over it, or don't watch the sport.

I'm honestly getting sick of these headshots. I'm a Leafs fan (yes...we still exist) so you can appreciate how much I hate the Habs, but I really don't think there's a place for this in hockey. Despite being legal, headshots are clearly an attempt to injure the opposing player. Just because a person accidently walks in front of the car while your driving doesn't mean you run him over. The only way I forsee this ending is if someone is killed or almost killed, and then it will be too late.

he could've stayed low and destroy d'agostini in the chest, but no... he had to go for the head...

This is a dirty hit. Clearly Ladd was looking to decapitate Dagostini because he went straight for the head. It's not surprising that Chicago Blackhawk players are resorting to these tactics in order to win hockey games - everyone knows what they do to cab drivers who dare to ask them to pay up.
Ladd should get 6 game suspension (but of course Kane should be in jail so we know how things work in Chi-town...)

First of all Kane's cousin is the one who admitted to beating up the cab driver and his reason was because the cab driver locked the doors and refused to let him out. They can't stand having been the biggest losers in NHL history so they have to try to injure Montreal players in order to get themselves a highlight on the Sports Desk. I don't see a suspension to this. The NHL has yet to say anything and many analysts doubt he will get one. The still frames show it was shoulder contact not elbow and it also shows Matt's head massivly lowered. plus it showed his skates down. If the NHL suspends him for this it will be a disgrace to the league. Ya they messed up the call to start with 5 min major for elbowing I can't see why you'd go any farther with the incident seems pointless

Have you ever actually BEEN to a hockey game, or do you just watch them on TV?
Fans always cheer a big hit... and the loudest fans are up the highest and have the worst view of it..
I was in the 300 level at the game for this hit, and from where I was sitting it looked 100% clean. Fans cheer every hit because you can't tell instantly.
Now, upon review, I'd say it looks borderline... definitely not a charge, but maybe an elbow.. it's hard to tell without the benefit of slow motion.

Try to see if you can find the still frame you'll see clearly it was shoulder contact. As for charging, he did leave his feet but only after he was done with the contact and it was because he was off balance.
