I'm an older guy new to gaming and I bought this used prob 2 yrs ago for my original xbox. I couldn't get past the first mission cause I'd get locked behind the big closed doors and couldn't figure out how to get out lol. I've since bought a 360 and MW2 and now this seems like small change.
@switch55 MW is overrated, with overdone played out scripted events. This game may seem simpler, but it's also more tactical in feel. MW is diet tactical, but is more arcadey in feel than games like GRAW. They are similar, but are still different in execution. It just depends on which kind of play you prefer. Something more realistic and tactical, or something that tries too hard to be a movie.
@Lostworld711 Socom Combined Assault is T, and people still play that... but the best online ps2 game is Call of Duty 3. Lot's of people still play that.
@TheBuba101 It'd probably be a little more cost effective if you just bout a PS2 Slim which has the adapter built into it. I think they still run about $40-$50

@sk8mate23 Still play it on your PS2, or PS3? I think the servers are still up for this game, so you should still be able to play it on the PS2. As for the PS3, if you have a backwards compatible PS3, you can still play PS2 games online, but none of the newer model PS3s are backwards compatible.
@ervil2 I've had it on the 360 for years. I just wanted to try the PS2 version as well. the only real problem with it is the choppy enemy animations in the Single player. As for the online multi, yes it's slower, but that's because the GR series has always had the slower, but still intense tactical multiplayer. Graw on the 360 is just a Socom wannabe. It's fun, but has nothing of the feel of the original GR series. The PS2's online is actually closer to the original GR's gameplay online.

That's kinda dumb. I used to have a PS2 with GRAW. It sucked. There were only like 8 people on a good day and the graphics are horrible and all people want to do is the survival mode game type. I prefer Call of Duty 3 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 Online for good PS2 Online games

The online mode is mildly entertaining, and I've played worse games in the single player, but the enemy movement is extremely choppy in the SP campaign. If they would have fixed that, then the SP would have been worlds more playable.
I haven't been on in a while, but this appears to be the most played Tom Clancy game on the PS2. In all honesty, if you're looking for some good tactical shooter action on the PS2, look no further than Socom.
If you've already go Socom, and are tired of it, and are looking to branch out into something new, then this may interest you a little.
It doesn't have many players, but it has a enough on at a time to fill a game or two.
The original PC version of Ghost Recon used the same cross-hair setup as this game does online. It's possibly for processing power reasons in order to keep the game running smoothly online.

Be quick all the servers are getting shutdown, there was 4 per game type up till the end of august now there is only one per type. To get online if you have a fat ps2 you need a network card. for any ps2 you need a network profile. Then go to multiplayer and tell it to use your network profile. Then create an account on UBI when asked for one. Once online you can then select your lobby and away you go.
Dude, why should I limit myself to just one online game? I love Socom, it's awesome, but sometimes you need something different. I just show online footage of PS2 games for those looking for something different to play.

The Single player of this game is not particularly spectacular. I was actually just playing it the other day. It wouldn't be so bad if the enemy animations weren't so darn choppy.
When I took this footage, thee was a small group of people still on. Just two games running. I was instantly voted out of the first one I joined (hence why I tell the players of this game not to be ***holes to new players), but the in the other game running they let me play.
Yes, and Yet. Only 100 or so on the original at peak hours, and last time I was on Socom 2 there were maybe 1300 people on. It's been a while. The cheaters kind of ruined it a little, but you can still find fair games. Most of the cheaters have moved on by now to another game, or a newer console.

Graphics don't matter to me at all. I still play all my old consoles, and don't care if a game runs on the pong engine as long as it's fun.
However, I don't see devs spending a lot of time developing the PS2's graphics anymore. It is a nine year old system, so they just figure that it's maxed out and put those resources towards next gen consoles.
As far as creating better games goes, no other console out there on the market has even close to as good a library as the PS2 does.
if u only depend on graphics, half the time, you'll get a bad game. if u depend on gameplay u get a better chance of getting good games. gameplay is everything. graphics dont matter.

Be quick all the servers are getting shutdown, there was 4 per game type up till the end of august now there is only one per type. To get online if you have a fat ps2 you need a network card. for any ps2 you need a network profile. Then go to multiplayer and tell it to use your network profile. Then create an account on UBI when asked for one. Once online you can then select your lobby and away you go.

Nope. The adapter is built into the slim. Look on the back of your slim, and you should see the Ethernet port.

Dude...Listen socom is the best ps2 online game , it has way more features than this game. if you like fps then this game is for you

Dude, why should I limit myself to just one online game? I love Socom, it's awesome, but sometimes you need something different. I just show online footage of PS2 games for those looking for something different to play.
This is for people who may know about Socom online, but may be curious about some of the other online games on the PS2.

Maybe to save processing power, but it's actually a series trademark. In the PC version of the original Graw you also couldn't see your weapon.
I'm not sure why they chose to do that, but it's no big deal. It plays the same whether or not you can see a weapon.

Who gives a crap about graphics? I'll admit that the gameplay of this version isn't that great in the single player mode, but the MP mode is decent.
If graphics make a game suck or not suck, then tell me why Halo 3 did so well, because graphically it was piss compared to stuff like Gears. Even the 360 GRAW looks like piss by comparison, so your argument makes no sense.
Graphics mean nothing. Gameplay means everything. I wouldn't expect a 14 year old to understand anything about gaming anyways.

I got this game after seeing my friend play it on ps3. When playing it I hated the low budget feel of it, and took it back the next day. Online looks pretty good though.
I want Ghost Recon 2 and Lockdown back again! Shouldn't have sold them! ;(

The Single player of this game is not particularly spectacular. I was actually just playing it the other day. It wouldn't be so bad if the enemy animations weren't so darn choppy.
They move like bad stop motion animation.

When I took this footage, thee was a small group of people still on. Just two games running. I was instantly voted out of the first one I joined (hence why I tell the players of this game not to be ***holes to new players), but the in the other game running they let me play.

Yes. It mostly depends on the game. I just got of of Battlefield 2 and there were over 300 people playing it.

Yes, and Yet. Only 100 or so on the original at peak hours, and last time I was on Socom 2 there were maybe 1300 people on. It's been a while. The cheaters kind of ruined it a little, but you can still find fair games. Most of the cheaters have moved on by now to another game, or a newer console.

not really. It makes the game prettier. But i must say i only wish that game developers now adays would focus more on the ps2 console to create better games, and graphics. COD4 could have been released on the ps2, or even COD5 got a ps2 version, but it looked so bad that it was hard for me to even play. I only wish that developers would focus more on this console. I own a great pc, and i play crysis on hight, bioshock on max, and in my opinion the two factors that matter are gameplay, an graphx

Graphics don't matter to me at all. I still play all my old consoles, and don't care if a game runs on the pong engine as long as it's fun.
However, I don't see devs spending a lot of time developing the PS2's graphics anymore. It is a nine year old system, so they just figure that it's maxed out and put those resources towards next gen consoles.
As far as creating better games goes, no other console out there on the market has even close to as good a library as the PS2 does.

if u only depend on graphics, half the time, you'll get a bad game. if u depend on gameplay u get a better chance of getting good games. gameplay is everything. graphics dont matter.
