  • I got a square tub but it needs a motor

  • My hand went thru the wringers several different times.

  • That's when you washed your clothes outside...

  • my ma and i had one of those that looked exactly like that back in the 1970s, just don't get your hand caught in the wringer, that hurts, i found that out the hard way from experience and the water was from a garden hose and there was also a electric `drop in water heater until it burnt out, then it was warmed on the stove and then poured in the drum.

  • put my dick in there..

  • Back when this machine was put out that was high dollar..only rich people had these

  • I dont think those folks use that to do washing. Have one and like the Amish you wash more than a few items at a time, and then you drain and do a rinse cycle, drain and then when putting ANYTHING with buttons on it you turn the item inside out so the buttons dont break.

  • @MotherLodeBeth My machine doesn't seem to be draining properly. There is nothing wrong with the pump. But I was wondering if the agitator comes out. I think something is plugging it.

  • My nana had one the same but she had a laundry and didnt have to wash her clothes in the street.... :)

  • This is exactly like the one my grandmother used. She had a special hose that attached to her kitchen faucet.

  • When you're ready to drain the washer, unhook the hose and lay it down. That will enable total release of the water.

  • i remember as a child, playing in the Hot Texas Sun,and mymom had a wringer washer, and there was nothing like getting a hot bath, them crawling in between the sheets that had been washed in a wringer washer, they were so crisp and clean, then feeling that old water cooler blowing on you.anyone remember those summers?

  • I remember my great-grandma had one of these. I was about 6 yrs old, and wanted to "help". So I started the wringer.I tried to put something through it and, oophs, there goes my hand, in the wringer! I was scared to death of that "monster" for years!

  • Cool vid nice to see things from the past to remind use how looky we are because such jobs use to take most off the day and this washer at the time would have been a god send to the woman of the house

  • This demonstration provides a great metaphor for how far we've come in relatively little time . . . and not just as it relates to cleaning clothes. Necessity is the mother of invention.

  • Be careful not to get your fingers caught in the wringer. I almost got my fingers caught in our old A.C.M.E. (yes, really) hand wringer when i was a kid, just got the tips but stopped turning(yes, stupid, i know) But that one looks powered by the motor, and the idea of gettin fingers caught in that scares me silly.

  • I am 56 years old. When I was very young, probably 4 years old, I remember my mother had this old, beat up, wringer washing machine...looked alot more primitive than this one

  • Amazing agitation for such an old washer!

  • I'll be right over with my laundry. What's the address again?? LOL

    That mangle always scared me.

    Thanks, fun video.

  • is this machine for sale? i can't find parts for mine

  • Nice N2LP wringer there!

  • Why did you call her "doctor"?

  • This machine is really cool, they should bring it back,it seems wzy better then our current washing machine

  • What model is this Maytag unit?

  • Vano had DDT which also helped prevent mosquito bites as well. Good stuff.

  • But at the same time DDT is also toxic. Good luck though.

  • We have two of these Maytag wringer washers which we got for next to nothing.

They were in good condition for their but through experience with one my mother had, I took the gear box apart and replaced the agitator shaft seal and the gear lube. These washers are great

for washing heavy items like carpets, large

coats, greasy clothing, etc. I was suprised parts are still available.

  • By the way, another use for the wringer is making sheets of pasta! That's right! ;)

  • Well, I thought everyone was taught not to air their dirty laundry. But I guess that's not true? *sigh*

    just kidding :) hehe

  • jon965, the same thing happened to me around that age.

We had this kind of machine for years. They were best used outside or on a concrete floor because of spills. We had a separate tub of clear water for a rinse, and then ran the clothes back through the wringer. Very water conserving also, because you could wash several loads in the same water.

  • That's what we had, when I was little.

  • My left arm went through the wringer when I was 4.

  • Nice VW pickup in the background!

  • I have one of these. I use it since I don't have a newer one. I need to figure out how to bring it inside over the winter.

  • We had one just like that when I was a kid.

Thanks for posting...(It was hard to discribe to my son.)

  • does Vano clean clothes as well?

  • Your washing machine is in good condition.

I still like my new washing machine.

  • I guess those were the good old days

  • That Vano looks like corn syrup.

  • @ friends I grew up with their mom had one of these

  • Nice video. We have my grandparent's old wringer washer in our basement. It's in perfect condition and works as good as the day they bought it. We 'inherited' it when we bought their house. We don't use it but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. They're just too neat!

  • I want one of these so badly! I've been looking all around locally for an affordable one.

  • thanks for that demonstration...I want one of these

  • That machine looks to be in great shape.I have an old one i use every once in a while.Even though we have an automatic. Its relaxing to me to wash on it.I have hoses hot and cold and a drain pipe for the hose so its fairly easy to wash..

  • My grandmother used to have one but she threw it away!

  • tell to her thaqt she was very smart!

  • can you also use regular laundry soap in it as well?

  • What was that stuff you poured into the washing machine?

  • That was "Vano". Cleans everything.

    Made in USA around 1950.

  • Garden hose?? As a kid, I had to haul the water bucket by painful bucketfull from our Dempster windmill about 300 ft away. I'm lookin for a little sympathy here!! Note: your wringer should be adjusted so that the water flows back into the wash tub.

  • Thanks, I'll get it adjusted, next wash.

  • That was the same design of the first italian washing machine, the "Candy" model built by "Officine Meccaniche Eden Fumagalli". The name Candy was later used as brand name.

  • Thanks for the historical background.

  • very cool i have an old maytag engine.

    very nice piece.

  • I still wash my laundry with a wringer washer. It actually does a better job than an automatic. They were built to last, unlike the modern day expensive junk they produce now.

  • Too cool! I've got one of the older Maytag wringers. It has the square tub and no pump. Gravity does the job.

  • Yeah, the lady in the movie has a square tub Maytag too. -with red trim. Works great.

Didn't know they made them without a pump.

  • this is more entertainign then most of the youtube videos

  • Thanks Dragoon. Glad you found it entertaining; after all is said and done, laundry can be dry subject... How did you find this video? -cd.
