Slim Dusty .. & his mates Shorty Ranger, Buddy Williams, Stan Coster .. et al .. came from an era in time where hardship was a fact of everyday life (these guys cut their teeth on The Great Depression). This life-experience forged their great characters & their immensely-lovable personas, one & all. They were men of integrity, fair dinkum Aussie blokes, men who called a spade a spade & who didn't tolerate any of the bullshit that so permeates our society today. We won't see their kind again.
@colindominy You're dead bloody right. At 15 I say we'd be better off as Aussie back in his time, our lives as Aussies were destroyed of it's uniquness when technology was baught in. R.I.P Dusy Slim.
@daintyamber : thank you kindly & most warmly for your feedback to the comments & reflections which I made about Slim Dusty - re that great tribute which chevroletno3 provided so well. Your mode and skill in expression is most impressive. Best of good fortune to you for the future, friend .. Australia could do with several hundred-thousand fold .. maybe let's even make that a few million-fold .. of your kind. Cheerio, take care.
@colindominy Thank you for such a positive comment :) I try my best to be an individual to make my life, and those who i can better :) everyone should aspire to be the best they can.
I AM 70yr old and I was here at the start of Dustys Career . He really should haved tour Europe. Sorry if he did but he never come near our town would have loved to see him in his prime.
I grew up milking cows and listening to slim on 2LM Lismore....he shaped my whole lfe...taught me REAL Aussie values...Slims gone..its not Australia anymore..!!...I miss you mate..
i am 43 yrs old ,i grew up with slim dusty music, for 40 of them and still listing to his music today,i must admit he will never leave me in my life time ,there fore i will always listen to he music,i been to 3 of he concerts, they were the best ,my favourite song will always be (redwing).
My Dad is a loyal fan...... god we grew up with his tunes..... not our choice!! got our portrait taken with him.... not our choice...... now days..... MY CHOICE...... I love Slim XXX
As Dale076 Says. "A fitting tribute to the Great Man Himself". I'm an 18 year old New Zealander and have grown up with his music. Thank you Slim, Mate!
A fitting salute to the great man himself. I attended his funeral and they did the same sort of thing for him there. I shed a tear or two when they id it there and almost again watching this. There will be no one else who devotes themselves to Australia as much as Slim did.

The greatest country singer of all time?? I think that might be stretching it a wee bit! No doubt he had his good songs but when you talk about the greatest you would have to mention names like Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Wilf Carter. In Australia you would have to name Tex Morton, Buddy Williams and Gordon Parsons, all of which had a more musical voice than Slim Dusty.
Timing is 4/4. E thn B then back to E for intro...E thn B thn E(Lkin frwd,lkn bck)...C#M thn G#M...C#M thn G#M then B thn E...middle bit is C#M(2 bars)then F#M then G# thn C#M then B thn E thn F# thn B...repeat the lot (except intro)Hopefully, this helps you...i myself play by ear, so ths is the actual key Slim used...enjoy!!
too true...all the more amazing that it was actually written by Don Walker(ex-Cold Chisel keyboardist), who kindly allowed Slim to record it. At his funeral, i remember thinking at the time, no more a song was as fitting for Slim as this one.
Best singer ever to sing RIP mate

Yeah but Slim produced over 100 albums; I think he deserves the top spot.
