OMG YESSSSSSSSS. This kid speaks the truth. Public schools just teach you how to take useless tests and how to conform to orders, no matter how stupid they are. Because of the flaw of American education, I have to read a lot. But that isn't a bad necessarily (for me). If didn't read a lot, I would be as dumb as all the other 15 year olds har har har...
I agree :( I'm very gifted, and my school could care less. no gifted programs whatsoever, and at other schools with gifted programs, they just make the work harder, but don't customize it for gifted students.
the nclb act leaves behind poor children, females, ethnic groups. gifted needs kids, special needs kids...yep bushes no child left behind propeganda leaves out just about everyone. it is done on purpose. a nation full of uneducated pple is easy to control
Did you know that if a learning disabled child is in an 8th grade classroom and can only function on a 4th grade level that they STILL have to take the 8th grade tests and pass them.....it is TRUE! If they don't, according to NCLB, it is the TEACHER'S fault....wake up America!!!!!
I don't think the general public knows how much testing is going on in schools...there is a test almost every week and it is always the teacher's fault if the kid fails it according to NCLB! NOT TRUE!!! You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink!
what, so they can go to a private school where many teachers don't have education degrees and some aren't even licensed??!?!!
We teachers work hard because we love kids and want to see them learn. But we can't do that if we're required to give tests constantly and must teach facts for the tests instead of concepts and critical thinking.
i reccomend you read "Vouchers within reason: a Child Centered Approach to education reform"
as your response reflects a lack of knowledge surrounding the whole voucher debate.
it is not meerly a crazy conservative idea, nor a liberal one. it offers the potential to help states accomplish what it has been unable to do on its own inorder to help all children.
would realize what is really going on in this world. Google 'zeitgeist the movie' right now and watch it for free on google video. If you have the guts to stick around for the show, your life will NEVER be the same. Let me repeat that" your life will NEVER be the same. Go. Now!
Do you really think that the higher ups in the government want your child to be educated? If the results that United States government gets out of its schools were far to the contrary of how they wanted them, logic will tell you that they would put forward a real change in the system to stop this massive dumbing down. We havent hesitated before to pour out billions/trillions of $ for random pointless things. This is because if our childten looked away from their TVs for too long, they (cont)
I am tired of hearing that teachers are underpaid! Bullshit, every weekend off , spring break off, christmass 2 wks off,
all the national holidays( martin luther king etc) 3 months of summer vacation.
Teachers are overpaid for the small amount of work they do in a year, If the kids are not learning ,maybe they should be in school 12 months of the year! instead of getting all this leisure time.
I agree, for example in Europe or South America, kids go 12 month to school from 8:00am to 3:00pm. They take 12 subject per semester, each semester is 6 months. You can tell the difference btw them. A kid from 2nd grade from S.A is already in multiplications while a kid in USA is still managing the size of his letters. A kid from Europe, at the same age is speaking 3 languajes....is the education in USA good?
Do you really believe this, or are you being facetious? The average number of work days for Americans is 242 days out of the year. My number of days at work last year EXCLUDING the summer and spring break was 245...and many of those were 16 hour days. We spend, on average, two evenings each week chaperoning events and attending meetings, seminars, and conferences.
To be honest, from what I know during the times they do work is a pretty non-stop job.
They have a job where they take their work home - and they are not just a teacher in the classroom - they are a teacher at home and on the street.
Think about it that way.
What we need to do - is identify the best teachers and pay them a hell of lot more to keep them around - as teaching is hard to make money in - from the beggining - yet these teachers can leave and make more in private sec
I love it. How better to get spread the message than through a child's voice. Brilliant!! Continue to make videos, especially using your charming little actor. Have even some of your friends create their own videos with the same message. By having more people spread the word around, the better chance it has being heard.

Hilary Clinton is a self-serving idiot. She could give a shit about anyone but herself, let alone kids, and she's going to expand this country's enormous debt exponentially. Who's gonna pay for such a large health care bill in the future? Surely not the elderly who will benefit from and vote for it now, but instead, the young children of today and their kids.

NCLB> its a great program, but teachers make this program worse. We our kids had bad teachers,do not like to work hard, ask "japan teachers" they don't make lots of dollars like our teachers, but they had successfull and professional people. Good luck.
I'm a teacher and I don't make "lots of dollars", I can guarantee that. I can also tell you that as a teacher, I work very hard. I put in more hours than your average full-time employee. Under NCLB teachers are just following orders. They are doing what they have been told to do in order to keep their jobs. Teaching might not pay very well, but it does pay, and many of us are passionate about it and couldn't imagine doing anything else.
I don't think that you hear it enough but thanks sschmid. I'm going to use your response in a final for my class at RIT. Schools really need to appreciate good teachers more then they do and the goverment penalizes the best teachers even if they have unorthodox methods.
we need higher paid teachers we dont have enough people who are good at it because the pay for a teacher who works at least 7 hour days is nothing you cant make a school better by not funding it thats like trying to get a person to stop starving by takign away the food.
@davidesposito1 How do you propose that they determine that I am a higher performing teacher than others? Here is a cross-section of just one of the classes I had in another state: one girl who was picking up the pieces at home since her dad died one month before the test, a boy from a family that had been visited many times by child/family services who never found the cause of his bruises, and a girl with a baby sister in the hospital. Yep, they have nothing to worry about but the test.
you would be suprised with my familiarity with what you speak.
I know teach for america has had a lot of reasearch into what makes the best teachers and it can ussually be seen from their accomplishments in the past.
Also, everytime somebody brings up an issue about how their are exceptions - honestly all data should be looked at in context - context is key in analyzing any educational data.
I see no reason we wont be able to understand more and more of the context understand
NCLB is a disaster, but the answer isn't more funding and more laws. The answer is getting the Federal government out of education. There's a reason that private schools and home schoolers have been growing at a tremendous rate for the last few decades.
Being the clearly haven't been listening to teachers, maybe they will finally listen to the students! Obsolete the No Child Left Behind Law and finally teach our nations children worthwhile lessons...

Its called Vouchers - that way you can bring your kid to the school that Actually TEACHES THEM
and this gives poor people the same choices that wealthier families have had for years.
