This video simple shows a competitor being distracted during a BLD Rubik's Cube Solve, 31 seconds into it, by a piece of paper that dropped a interfered with their left index finger touching a cubie.

If that happened while I was solving I'd lose track of the solve and think "What the hell is this guy doing? Can't they get someone who can hold a piece of paper for a minute?!"

I heard that the WCA banned him sometime after a competition and didn't give him a fair chance to represent himself. They offered to meet him so that he could prove himself, like a convict pleading for parole. It wasn't exactly a nice way to go about it, especially considering his age.

But that's unrelated to the video at hand. People shouldn't cheat, organizations* shouldn't be cruel to teens, and accused/convicted cheaters shouldn't be ridiculed over other things that they are good at.

There was solid evidence that he cheated though. He "messed up" the corners on one of his multibld's and then he fixed it the speed solve way. By doing this he stole thousands of dollars.

There's no way I could do corners 2x2 and then track edges. If I'd a memory that good I'd probably use a more intuitive method.

So I'm in agreement about how unlikely it is that they'd be able to use such a method blindfolded.
