I used to have a black and white Akita inu when I was 10.Mocha was always looking out for strange things and barked a lot.She was a great dog and I still miss her.She was put to sleep due to illness in 2005.

not all pure bred akitas have white nose, mine is pure because my family breeds them and they are all sorts of colours. not all animals have to have a perfect colour to be pure bred :)

@anthony7250 Your Akita is an American Akita. :) However, the other dogs bred into the american akita standard date back a lonnng time ago and are no longer relavant. So saying there is GSD in his lines would be ridiculous at this point as the American Akita is already a breed on its own (completely separate from the Japanese Akita). Check out "Japanese Akita club of america" and their article on the split. Also, sorry for your loss.

There are two lines of the Akita, the Akita Inu wih a white mask and smaller build and the American Akita with darker masks and much bigger builds. The american version is more like the original Akita from Northern Japan.

@SirMarksAlot731 he is an american akita from what i can see but he isnt mixed with GSD,american akitas can vary in many different colours and it is not breed specific to have a white muzzle.

@SirMarksAlot731 You are right that he is not an Akita Inu, but a Black Mask is very common in American Akita's. It doesn't mean that there is any GSD in him. Some believe it goes back to Tosa in creating the Breed separate from Akita Inu.

Having lost one myself this news years, its hard to watch some of these videos. but I have 10 years of memories with her. she was at a pound and nobody wanted her. two people brought her back, cause she like to chew on stuff. I had that broke in 2 weeks with a can of marbles and just plan walking her everyday, and play time.

That dog like to ride in the van. you grab the keys and its lets go... Akitas love to play and talk, and are always on the alert. she would chase stuff in her sleep.

Haha Akitas sure love to talk. My Akita would always talk to me when I would get home lol. They're such a great dogs. Mine just died on Monday. Seeing videos like this makes me miss her a lot.

I have a 1yo male akita and i love it when he talks! He'll greet anyone who walks in the door with his little grunts and will talk to you when he wants your attention. One of the best dogs I've ever owned

My akita has a different series of sounds for different people. I know exactly who she is telling me is outside by the sounds she makes. I bet someone your akita loved was outside that window.

I agree. I know when my akita is barking or sounding off at a stranger, a person she knows, a critter ( possum or raccoon) another dog or cat, or a part of the family. She also can detect when one of the family automobiles is within a five mile radius . She really can.

I raised two. Cut up some chicken franks into small pieces. Have your dog at the end of a lead and have your brother give him a treat only when he STOPS being nasty to him. This will reinforce him being civil to your brother. Your brother should talk kindly to him when he gives him the treat and praise him for being nice.
