  • buy yourself a DVD recorder, of course it takes a lot of time but you get the movies off your DVR! The you can watch them when ever you want!!

  • Sorry folks, but Weaknees only moves content after you buy one or more of THEIR outrageously overpriced external drives. $300 for 1 terabyt, $400 for 2 terabytes.

  • At the risk of sounding a bit smug, what could any of you possibly have on your DVR's that would be worth such a convoluted hack that you can't readily and easily find somewhere on the net? My sons name appeared on a kiddie show and I would have liked that, but nothing I've ever downloaded in years of daily use, could I not find, rip and burn from elsewhere. If you need some sources or the methods involved, feel free 2 ask Torx bits? Learn to seek content, then rip it and burn it.

  • can you do this with a time warner cable box?

  • It is not impossible to copy Directv drive. All you need is Gparted and you can do it. It is not for the timid, but it IS not impossible as alluded to here.

  • @beerman1957 Could you please teac7h us 7how to do t7his ? T7hank you so muc7h !

  • @misswillingtolearn : If you search Sourceforge in Google with Clone, you get the instructions. Youtube Will no let me post.

  • @beerman1957 I will ! T7hank you so muc7h for t7he tip , beerman1957 ! God bless !

  • @misswillingtolearn I must add that removing the drive out of the Directv is not complicated but it does require a special torx -10 bit. You can get Torx Bits at a hardware store. You must also practice good grounding and anti-static procedures. Be aware that you COULD LOSE ALL YOUR data if you are not 100% correct in cloning using Gparted.

If you want to use a Windows machine, I recommend Acronis to clone drives. Again, you HAVE to pay attention to what you are doing or you lose it all.

  • You also have to remove the original drive out of the Directv. This voids the otherwise crappy warranty. If you are leasing, I guess this could be a big deal. I did it with no issues. I cloned the contents to a 1TB drive and then connected the 1TB drive to E-Sata port. This way I can backup the hard drive on the Directv. If you want a long-term archive, you need to get a computer/PVR. Google it.

  • record the playback with a pvr.
