hey im just starting to play saxophone and i was wondering what would be a nice jazz saxophone, yours sounds smooth but is that because of your playing or the instrument itself, i like to play blues and jazz on my guitar and i want to do the same on sax any tips. By the way those 4 dislikes are from deff people
Please, go and see "STAN GETZ COMMUNITY" a special web site dedicate to Stan Getz ...I add on this site your video "THE GIRL OF IPANEMA"...I think you must enlist yourself in this good site...you will know why when you will do it ( Like that I could make you playing in Monaco and the French Riviera)!
Thanks, my set up on this is simple. An otto link 5* HR with a cheapo metal lig, and a rico royal 3. It is great for ballads like this, but playing out it is little too soft sounding, so I have just changed to a Otto Link 7* STM NY, and gone down to a 2.5 reed. Gives me a bit more edge
Totally agree with Laurence... Just the right mood, a result of fine playing. Nice one Matthew. I am trying to master this melody myself for a solo! Hmmmm!
Thanks, I always play as if I am singing, it is a simple technique, but it works. I kind of sing it in my head as I play, if that make sense. Happy New Year!
Great Playing! I really like your approach to playing, I believe that is similar as to how the greats intepreted the music, through song and singing! Very Cool! Check out my accapella version, I like yours better!
An enchanting interpretation of this wonderful song, Matthew. I always associate it with the great Billie Holiday - who does not? - and with its twin, "One For My Baby", also done by Lady Day. I can only say you're on the right road, going in the right direction: Your tenor playing is absolutely confident and convincing and conveys the atmosphere desertlight describes.
Interesting, this song was new to me, so due to my terrible dot reading, I listened to a version I had by Mel Torme. I often use his recordings as he has a pure and simple approach. I have just listened to Lady Day's, wow! Thanks for the suggestion
Very night life sounding. I can see the patrons hunched over drinks re-living morose bittersweet memories. Then the music picks up tempo and brightness. This is really beautiful, Matthew.
So distinctly New York - like nowhere else on earth... Congrats.

You can't beat the sax for that smoky, langorous tone that is so evocative. Very nice, I could listen all day.

Very nice interpretation. I've only listened to it 4 times in a row now. :)
What's your setup? (sax/mpc/reed/mic). What software are you using to edit video/audio?
