Someone was talking about 'knowing the right notes to play' with this kind of music. But also the truth is that this stuff is so much more subtle, that the trick is the amount of force that is put into each note and the balance between all the other instruments; it differs allot from other kinds of rock n roll. And for that matter, I don't think the Floyd could always do the same thing twice even if they wanted to! It was always different in each version of any song.
I read in Nicholas Shaffners book that they made this to coincide with the sex scene in the movie, and the reason they called it "Up the Khyber" is because the scene seems to have them doing anal, but the final version of the movie is edited. Its just something I read...
This just too good! Seriously, anyone who thinks it's so easy to play like that has never tried. I tried a lot but you need to know which notes to play.
Pink Floyd never sold out. In fact the record producers were constantly hounding them to make more listener friendly music and they consistently refused. Dark Side is a beautiful piece of artwork and is far from a "sell out" piece. Just because millions of people know and love the songs does not mean they sold out. They just hit the right chord at the right time.
this is music, even though it is atonal. educate yourself, pentatonically retarded one. not all music is made around classical bach/beethoven kind of harmony.
Anyone saying this is bad, go and listen to Dark Side or other sell out records. This is not for Top of the Pops gang! This is for people who want something different and experimental. Not songs that we can sing along to. We got Beatles for that
@bluesy73 Nothing like that. just saying that it's totally different type of audience that likes this stuff as opposed to more comercial stuff they did later. Actually you just proved my point w/ your comment. And what does my age gotta do w/ anything?!!! I thought music was about taste!
@666cfc Don't get me wrong I like this stuff too, so no, I don't think I prove your point. I think calling the other records sell out records is, to say the least, a bit too much. I really hate that sell out thing and the commercial thing too . I totally agree that music is about taste and maybe that's why I hate those two "labels". The age thing is because youngsters tend to be too extreme when talking about things and music in particular. Cheers!
@bluesy73 Well I honestly don't know wether Waters & co. decided to make more accesible records, but being the floydoholic since the 80s I must say that records prior to Dark Side were more experimental and less trashy then, say, The Wall or Dark Side which lead the way for the squeeky clean sounds of the 80s and stadium concerts. Anyways, I'd never go to Money or other songs of Floyd I don't like just so I can push the dislike button. I guess that was my original point.
@bluesy73 But I totally see your point and using those terms was just for the lack of better words for it(sellout and commercial). But it's not the amount of records they sold that makes me dislike those records. It's mostly the distance of them and the fact that playfullness and the magic of the songs such as San Tropez, Seamus and Alan's Psychodelic Breakfast was forever gone and was replaced w/ sort of theatrics I didn't really enjoy that much. Anyway good listening whatever it is
I think it sounds good. So what if it's just jamming. It's like they did listen to some jazz and went into the studio. All great musicians are influenced by many different genres.......
@Fakez1337 I think this song sounds alot like the Syd Barrett fueled Floyd that started it all... maybe not the best Floyd song, but still an interesting piece... better than modern rap "music", that's for damn sure
@Fakez1337 I though the same thing, especially about the piano part ^^ But if you count it out (and remember it was meant to be the background of a movie), it's an interesting piece.
@probrojeffro Yeah, but we all know these guys were very restless in their creativity. They did soundtracks abound, as well as albums, great singles and b sides.

This is was more or less a more psychedelic version of Herbie Hancock's Jack Rabbit. Still a good piece though.

This is a great song, which kind of reminds me of a band I've heard a few days ago, Aperco. Hear the similarity at their channel apercoband

Music? This is just some random noise. It's not that because it has been made by Pink Floyd it MUST be good...

Pink Floyd's work between 1969 and 1977 is the best in my way.
