@101multiemily dude i know there needs to be a rebellian one day so that we drive all wogs arabs and asians out of our country other wise we will turn out like america and most people wont be true aussie
i hope this is all just for fun... ive never met an American who couldn't understand an Australian, and we met Australians where I'm from/live (LA + NYC) all the time.
Hah nice video, as you probably know already, the American accept you used was more western (Texan-ish, no offense to any Texans, but it sounds like that from the Southern area).. Definitely not Californian or east coast. Also, I understand the Aussie accent, especially after watching Australian accents for quite some time now. Let me tell you, I love it and it's my favorite accent ever~
I asked repeatedly for water at a restaruant in between Ala Moana and Waikiki, I had to eat there every night because the only other place I could find were drugstores or McDonald's.
.
I tried to tell a story they might understand: "tap water" "You know when you go to the sink and you turn on the tap and water comes out; I'll have a glass of that, please".
.
No idea what I'd said.
I think I only ever drank coffee with my meals there.
i went to usa for a holiday and its so true!! its because they dont have australian television over there so they arent used to our accent where as we understand them completely because we are so americanised, very funny and insightful at the same time!
Ha ha don't feel bad I'm from Texas and I just move to Aussie and I get the samething but it's all good though most of the Aussies I talk to likes my accent. I remember in high school we had a Aussie and everyone love his accent
C'mon Sheila , Show us your Growler. See, I'm American and I understand your form of English just fine. Must be the 20 or so generations of my family speaking that language gives me an unfair advantage.
I've run into this before. It's not that you can't understand or pronounce American vowels, "r's", etc. It's that you feel astounded that others can't understand you, and you need others to mock Americans with you. Try immersing yourself in another culture that speaks a totally different language for a few years and then go back to your own hometown, and see if you don't think everyone talks strangely. It's the same effect.

@somethinguncreative I agree because I'm american and used to be soft spoken and people had a hard time understanding me and I have no accent. Because I understood her just fine once I turned the volume up lol

Australians are good at doing southern accents, for some reason. Try a generic (mid-western) accent. I think that ends up sounding more natural (if you can pull it off). Otherwise, it can sound really flat, and kinda creepy. Hugo Weaving in the Matrix is a good example of a generic, mid-western accent, that ends up kind of flat and creepy. I think it was intentional, though.
I totally relate with you. But in an opposite way :). I'm from the US and I recently went to Australia for my summer with my auntie who and my mom to visit our family out there cause im half aussie mate.. :) Well the funny thing is my auntie decided to teach how to speak with an aussie accent so people wouldn't laugh at me when i talked to them (cause she likes to mess with me) So I tried it and i failed. So I started to talk to people with a U.S. accent and they didnt ujnderstand me! :) lol. :)

hahaha, I had the same problem in Australia, even after spending 10-years there. I went into Bunnings once and asked if they were selling Foam. Fom???? I said; no, foam!!! What is Fom? I said; the stuff you put in a hardcase to pad it up! Oooohhh, Feeeuuuuuummmm! I had the same with the word "Coke". Can I have a Coke please? They'd always bring me a Cold, which is a beer. I ordered a Coke! Yes, here's your Cold. No, Cocacola!!! Oohh a Ceeeeuuuukkk. Bleedy hell.
@twilightfreak105 Yeah, you generalize a nation of over 300 milion people while using "coz" for the word because. You're a genius of the highest order, my friend. Your internet slang is a sign of laziness and a true sign of your character. By the way, dumbass is one word. Dumbass..............
@brin3535 wow we get it that person cant spell but still pretty much all the Americans i know can understand what there saying we hear wata even though there saying water and like what twilightfreak105 was saying we know what there saying so either shes over exaggerating or shes working with stupid people
yes well American's can't understand Brits let alone any other countries accents. American's really are very foreign to Australia and vice versa, and to the rest of the world. As for the term 'bogan', I wish it was known everywhere. It's a very useful word. Although, I suppose Americans have 'redneck'. I don't know what British people have for it. Actually, I'd like to know every country's term for a bogan...
I had a Chineese American girlfriend a long time ago that I was big time in love with. So what did I do about it? She had a "beyond bitch" key chain and she was a bit mean so I dumped her -cause I was scared she was gonna dump me first. She was awesome for sex. So the moral of the story is do not be a dumbazz like me. Hang with the hoe until she dumps you. Even though she was mean she thought I was a good piece too. So she might have held on to me. Anyway do not get emo over a hoe.
I am from the USA and although born in the Deep South lived in the Midwest, Texas, other parts of the South, and California. Now I live in Europe. Europeans in Germany and Austria have either learned their English from direct schooling in England, or stays in the USA, or from English teachers that were either born in the USA or England. ALL of the Europeans that I know definitely tell me that AMERICAN accented English is MUCH easier to understand than a British accent.
Something that grinds on my ears, although might explain their difficulty in understanding your As, is that a lot of Americans seem to pronounce soft As as soft Es ... and the soft Es as hard As.
This southerner can understand you just fine. Hell I don't know any southerners that couldn't understand you. Australia ? Where's Australia ? Oh ----you mean that HUGE chunk of land a thousand miles or so West of New Zealand --- I thought they called that Oz. Last time I heard, Drop Bears were ravaging the land ....... you better run, you better take cover.
Whats Australia. We're a fricken continent and the largest island in the world. Please americans with IQ greater than 106 please tell me you have globes of the world and not just of america.
Yes we do. And everyone I know, even the 5 year olds, know where Australia is.Maybe because Minnesota is the top scorer on tests in the United States. Southern states don't get as good of education as up north. The attitudes are a lot different. Not saying that everyone in southern US aren't smart, there's just more poverty there and government money not as focused on education as we are, cuz we get high ass taxes for our education.
The person who said that is a troll, nothing more.
@beanybudd ,hmm well when my dad was working in America (the northern parts) when he was young some guy asked him if he drove there from Australia lol.
@MrNintoku -lol i know i would have said' Whats Australia? oh its that new colony we just built on the moon'..and when she goes 'oh really?' say 'naah sarcasm is the bodies natural defense to stupidity'. See if lady who doesn't know what Australia is can grasp that concept.
What's Australia? No, love the videos darling!! I hope that we Americans, Aussie's , Canadians, Brits, & Kiwi's can all come together & not fragment any farther. Hell, the rest of the world & other ethnic groups seem to be uniting.
I didn't say that you are ignorant. I said your comment was. It's that kind of attitude that contributes to people not liking this country. It's not very tolerant or accepting. Instead of just telling people to leave, why don't we actually put some work into changing the country for the better? Every nation has flaws, and the U.S. is no exception.
Rhart dont be a prick WHY DONT THEY GO BACK TO THERE COUNTRY HUH ?"??? EVER THOUGHT THAT CUSTOMEROFSHIT IS PURE FUCKING AUSTRALIANS WOOOOOOOOOO TAKE THAT U FUCKING ASIANSS SHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
The Australian accent sounds a lot more like true English than the American accent, there have been a few times that even I, an Englishman, have been talking to an Aussie and just thought they were from Kent or somewhere :-p. Therefore I implore you must keep your accent, and if the Yanks don't understand ye, to hell with them :-p.
It really shouldn't though mate. Seriously our accent is a bastardisation of Irish and Cockney. Like the Cockney though Australian slang is disappearing which is a bloody shame
I can see where the Irish comes in definitely, but even so, I do get confused sometimes due to the accent being so similar to some of the Southern accents (obviously under influence of cockney). As for the slang, that is a definite shame :-/, it's the same in the North East of England where I live, words that have been used for thousands of years are now becoming extinct. Hopefully the recent cultural revival movement here will prevent it happening completely though :-).
Indeed it is. I East End London now have a group trying to revitalise the Cockney slang as does the Irish have a large percentage trying to bring back Gaelic so hopefully Australia can do the same
It's the same in Wales and Cornwall, there are more than twice the people speaking the Brythonic languages there than there were 10 years ago due to the fact that people want to preserve their culture. I think British culture is fantastic, and I love that people realise it's worth keeping. I recently went to an English folk night in Leeds, and I never thought I'd like it, but it was awesome! All these Yorkshire dialectal words coming through in verse and song, it wah' loveleh!
I am a little odd when it comes to England mainly. I love the English but I really can't stand the crown. I think it's because of Irish in me ;)
But heritage really doesn't seem to get the respect anymore that it once did glad that there are still people like us that want to preserve our histories and culture
Yeah, but if we got rid of the Queen we'd have a presidency rather than a PM, and that alone is worth keeping her for :-p. I don't want to become a mini-America :-p. It's not that I don't like America, it's just that I think identity and culture is important :-). I have a bit of Irish in me too, and Scottish, Aussie, and even a tiny bit of Polish (my great grandma survived Belsen camp and moved to Britain after being liberated).
@rhart49-Apparently you haven't paid attention to how much spanish is being spoken around here now. People come from Latin America, Africa and even Northern Europe, white is going to be a minority in the US in the next 30-40 years. "not a prospect many would like anywhere?" Get a grip.
@dan892k7 my grandfather is also Polish , he was in both auschwitz (the worst concentration camp, it also became an extermination camp) and Mauthausen. :/
That is a true Australian :/ Thumbs up if you think we're getting invaded :p

Minty210 1 year ago
@Minty210 Aus=bogan - Yanks/Americans=Rednecks - British=Poms or pommy
Leeroys2bDay 1 year ago
@Minty210 The closest English equivalent of bogan would probably be 'chav'

HaniiPuppy 1 year ago
This southerner can understand you just fine. Hell I don't know any southerners that couldn't understand you. Australia ? Where's Australia ? Oh ----you mean that HUGE chunk of land a thousand miles or so West of New Zealand --- I thought they called that Oz. Last time I heard, Drop Bears were ravaging the land ....... you better run, you better take cover.

Whats Australia. We're a fricken continent and the largest island in the world. Please americans with IQ greater than 106 please tell me you have globes of the world and not just of america.
MrNintoku 1 year ago

What's Australia? No, love the videos darling!! I hope that we Americans, Aussie's , Canadians, Brits, & Kiwi's can all come together & not fragment any farther. Hell, the rest of the world & other ethnic groups seem to be uniting.

niceprince 1 year ago
I didn't say that you are ignorant. I said your comment was. It's that kind of attitude that contributes to people not liking this country. It's not very tolerant or accepting. Instead of just telling people to leave, why don't we actually put some work into changing the country for the better? Every nation has flaws, and the U.S. is no exception.

The Australian accent sounds a lot more like true English than the American accent, there have been a few times that even I, an Englishman, have been talking to an Aussie and just thought they were from Kent or somewhere :-p. Therefore I implore you must keep your accent, and if the Yanks don't understand ye, to hell with them :-p.
dan892k7 2 years ago
@dan892k7
It's pretty obvious you just hate Americans.
btinder711 2 years ago
HAHA!! Calm down, I was speaking jestfully, "to hell with them" doesn't actually mean I want you to burn in hell :-p.
Lighten up, get a sense of humour! lol
dan892k7 2 years ago
It really shouldn't though mate. Seriously our accent is a bastardisation of Irish and Cockney. Like the Cockney though Australian slang is disappearing which is a bloody shame
rhart49 2 years ago
I can see where the Irish comes in definitely, but even so, I do get confused sometimes due to the accent being so similar to some of the Southern accents (obviously under influence of cockney). As for the slang, that is a definite shame :-/, it's the same in the North East of England where I live, words that have been used for thousands of years are now becoming extinct. Hopefully the recent cultural revival movement here will prevent it happening completely though :-).
Dan
dan892k7 2 years ago
Indeed it is. I East End London now have a group trying to revitalise the Cockney slang as does the Irish have a large percentage trying to bring back Gaelic so hopefully Australia can do the same
rhart49 2 years ago
It's the same in Wales and Cornwall, there are more than twice the people speaking the Brythonic languages there than there were 10 years ago due to the fact that people want to preserve their culture. I think British culture is fantastic, and I love that people realise it's worth keeping. I recently went to an English folk night in Leeds, and I never thought I'd like it, but it was awesome! All these Yorkshire dialectal words coming through in verse and song, it wah' loveleh!
dan892k7 2 years ago
I am a little odd when it comes to England mainly. I love the English but I really can't stand the crown. I think it's because of Irish in me ;)
But heritage really doesn't seem to get the respect anymore that it once did glad that there are still people like us that want to preserve our histories and culture
rhart49 2 years ago
Yeah, but if we got rid of the Queen we'd have a presidency rather than a PM, and that alone is worth keeping her for :-p. I don't want to become a mini-America :-p. It's not that I don't like America, it's just that I think identity and culture is important :-). I have a bit of Irish in me too, and Scottish, Aussie, and even a tiny bit of Polish (my great grandma survived Belsen camp and moved to Britain after being liberated).
dan892k7 2 years ago
Indeed becoming American isn't really a prospect that many would like anywhere
rhart49 2 years ago
True :-p
dan892k7 2 years ago
@rhart49-Apparently you haven't paid attention to how much spanish is being spoken around here now. People come from Latin America, Africa and even Northern Europe, white is going to be a minority in the US in the next 30-40 years. "not a prospect many would like anywhere?" Get a grip.
