These ladies do a great job with this song; however, I really like it sung by one voice because I think that fits the mood of the function of the song in _West Side Story_, its relation to the story. The song expresses that in a single, offstage voice.

@TripBoomLikeThat I didn't know that all gowns were automatically "too sexy" for a certain age group. It wouldn't have to have been extremely form fitting or reveal too much. I love seeing the girls gowns in all the shows and it's a shame that she didn't wear one in this. She always looks lovely, of course.
I love hearing them sing a capella like this. I really do love Mearaid's (sp) violin and all the drum and other accompaniments, but this is the true proof of their awesome talent. Watch also Danny Boy a capella....it's breathtaking on youtube or live!

His ambition was to create an harmony of music and different talents, that's why the name is Celtic Woman and not Celtic Women. There has to be something for everyone in the show, so the show has. The real celtic-lovers can enjoy beautiful Irish Songs as Si Do Mhameo I, lovers of romantic songs can enjoy The Soft Goodbye or Send Me A song... there's anything for everyone
David Downes explains in some documentaries that his idea behind Celtic Woman, that he wants to create a show of harmony, while the women and their talents are all completely different. They do Irish Music, they do classical music, they do covers of soundtracks, a lot of genres what matches in the theme of the show.
I think Celtic Woman are absolutly freaking amazing. I love the pure quality of their voices and the amazing ranges they all have. I can only hope to be anywhere near as good as any of them.
So if they don't claim to sing Celtic music, as you say why on earth would they call themselves «Celtic Woman»? If a girl group would call themselves «Deutsche Frau» you'd expect to hear German music. If they would call themselves «Mujer Espanola» you'd expect some Spanish stuff. If they'd call themselves «Femme Française»... you get the picture. Btw I was watching the video to see what they are like. I still deeply regret having watched this awful video.
They totally own Il divo. I only wish they had used a bit more power at some parts (wich is the opposite of what most others do wrong in my opinion). They all have such clear and beatifull voices <3

fyi: they do sing celtic music as well as other styles. all you have to do is listen to the songs. and how can you call their music soapy and phony when if you actually listen to them you can tell that they are singing live. go check out their website and youll see that none of them ever believed that they would become as popular as they are now. you call them phony because they don't sing all celtic music but they the most sincere performers ever.
I did not pretend that they don't sing live. I called them phoney because it's fake Celtic music. Add a few «toora looras» here and there and the audience will believe that it's really real Celtic Culture. But it's not. It's a Disneyland version of Celtic music. Hence it's phoney. And if they pretend that they «did not believe that they'd become popular», that's so phoney too. Their music was designed to reach a mass audience and sell millions of records. How can they be surprised now?
You know if you really think they never claim to sing only celtic music and the celtic music that they do sing is real. I'm studying music in school now and I have been singing since I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that if you looked up the titles of the celtic songs that they sing you'll find that they are legit. But I have to wonder if you dislike them so much why were you even watching a video of them in the first place.

If you wanna hear Celtic music, listen to the Dubliners, for instance, and you'll notice the difference. I'm a fan of personal expression too. But the purpose of Celtic Woman is commercial success, not personal expression. Celtic Woman is 99% phoney Disneyland and 1% Celtic culture. This music is about as Celtic as Tom Jones: that means, virtually not Celtic at all.
there is no need for all the arguing...these ladies are amazing, just like all performers/vocalists are in their genre.. i personally am a fan of both CelticWoman and Marilyn Mason.
These women have such amazing talent, their pitch is clear and precise, it's difficult to get this done as a solo, let alone a quartet! I have heard their Christmas specials, this "Somewhere" is just as wonderful~ Thank you for posting this song, CelticLadies, I too, have a Celtic heritage.
ANYONE who thinks that isn't one of the best versions of this song ever...I would have them pay a little attention to the very last note. For those with any actual music training, you realize that what they do with that note isn't just difficult....it is darn near impossible solo, much less in 4 part harmony!!!

If a girl group would call themselves «Deutsche Frau» you'd expect to hear German music. If they would call themselves «Mujer Espanola» you'd expect some Spanish stuff. If they'd call themselves «Femme Française»... you get the picture. Btw I was watching the video to see what they are like. I still deeply regret having watched this awful video.

fyi: they do sing celtic music as well as other styles. all you have to do is listen to the songs. and how can you call their music soapy and phony when if you actually listen to them you can tell that they are singing live. go check out their website and youll see that none of them ever believed that they would become as popular as they are now. you call them phony because they don't sing all celtic music but they the most sincere performers ever.

I did not pretend that they don't sing live. I called them phoney because it's fake Celtic music. Add a few «toora looras» here and there and the audience will believe that it's really real Celtic Culture. But it's not. It's a Disneyland version of Celtic music. Hence it's phoney. And if they pretend that they «did not believe that they'd become popular», that's so phoney too. Their music was designed to reach a mass audience and sell millions of records. How can they be surprised now?

You know if you really think they never claim to sing only celtic music and the celtic music that they do sing is real. I'm studying music in school now and I have been singing since I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that if you looked up the titles of the celtic songs that they sing you'll find that they are legit. But I have to wonder if you dislike them so much why were you even watching a video of them in the first place.

If you wanna hear Celtic music, listen to the Dubliners, for instance, and you'll notice the difference. I'm a fan of personal expression too. But the purpose of Celtic Woman is commercial success, not personal expression. Celtic Woman is 99% phoney Disneyland and 1% Celtic culture. This music is about as Celtic as Tom Jones: that means, virtually not Celtic at all.

These women have such amazing talent, their pitch is clear and precise, it's difficult to get this done as a solo, let alone a quartet! I have heard their Christmas specials, this "Somewhere" is just as wonderful~ Thank you for posting this song, CelticLadies, I too, have a Celtic heritage.

ANYONE who thinks that isn't one of the best versions of this song ever...I would have them pay a little attention to the very last note. For those with any actual music training, you realize that what they do with that note isn't just difficult....it is darn near impossible solo, much less in 4 part harmony!!!

They are ALL celtic women, being from Ireland. Much of their music is traditional Irish music ( or trad), but a lot of it is putting a sort of 'celtic' sound to newer music. The biggest thing is this. There isn't another sound like theirs anywhere in the world.

Well, these ladies are friends of mine so what some person who would rather listen to Marilyn Manson thinks about them isn't at all relevant. And if you don't like it, then why even worry about it. Is it necessary to bad mouth to those who DO like it? And by the way, your opinion may be important to you, but no one else really cares.
