I'm not an expert on the matter, but in big band arrangements they sometimes substitute the 1st with the 9th, which I think could solve the major 7th dissonance problem.
Speaking as a professional trainer, you are an absolute natural tutor. One of the best explained tutorials I have seen, and a great help for my next gig. Cheers!
Yeah, on four strings I'll usually use what's called an "omit" voicing, which is where you take the basic drop 2 voicing and leave out a note, usually the root or fifth. These in general are much more practicable that drop 2s.
Well, it's really subjective. It comes down to what range you need to express yourself. Four is plenty for a lot of people, but I really dig on having the high C string (or low B as the case usually is.) Figure out what works for you.
Bass strings... usually an hour a day at least *without skipping days* builds them up nicely... remember to spend enough time on all 4 of your fretting fingers and all of your picking fingers evenly =)
I am a piano player. I picked up bass when I was 17, i'm eighteen now. And I think of piano chords, and..I don't know if there right lol. Like..CEG, FAC, or some sevenths CEGBflat, AC#EG. Think those could work?
thanks, kudos for just making a simple great video, I can hear your voice and your bass and you speak grammatically correct, you should be a teacher, holl'a
Thanks much for your video, it really helped me with chord voices and encouraged me to go mess around with a few. If I'm remembering some talkbass posts correctly, you went to Berklee?
I'd love to know what the 1 person disliked???

That's weird, my comment didn't go through.
Your video was an immense help, and I am thankful for the time you put into it. If I remember from talkbass, you go to berklee, do you not?
