a major reason for their hatred of psychiatry was how LRH's Dianetics was dismissed in the 50's by the APA, it was not religious bigotry, LRH failed to produce any of his so called research. He was able to show results through hypnotic suggestion, but when he demonstrated his techniques he was told "if you tell people you can cure them with this, we will put you in jail." this was when the religious aspect of it began...no jail time if it's a religious practice

As far as i know anonymous chose Scientology, because scientology violated the free nature of the internet by removing the "tom cruise" video from youtube. Anonymous otherwise decided to act on that, was because it became obvious to us that scientology was an unjust organization, and that many lulz could be had.
