I first saw this movie in 1973, as a 20 year old college boy. Now that I am creeping up on Bill Holden's age in this movie, it's even more poignant. I'm married to a wonderful woman who is 16 years my junior. Not exactly the age-gap as in this film, but May-December relationships are just as valid as same-age relationships. This movie could have been so cheesy, but it was written, acted and directed with taste and intelligence.Very witty and charming!
@Stuckinthe6Ts I see this film for the first time only yesterday! I'm a huge admirer of Holden's work, but I've been somewhat reluctant to watch his later stuff, but now I see I was completely wrong. He's absolutely fantastic--but you're right. When I started to watch it after read the description I thought it was going to be an awful cheesy one, but nope, mr. Holden or the rest of the crew did indeed win me over!
Decrepit yet sensitive old guy and nubile intelligent young girl. I'm moved, but I've never met a guy or a girl like that in my life. Now take HAROLD AND MAUDE. Free spirited old lady, repressed young guy. Also moving, but in some strange way, a little more plausible than this combination.
It has all been said of this movie.... Via YouTube we are lucky to be able to share such a warm heartfelt touching movie with those who have seen it and who are now discovering this gem for the first time!!
ooouh clint is the ''man of the chair''. The good old director of his generation. The movie is in 1973? How come i can't remember any other movies made in 1973?? LOL
@substitute91 "Magnum Force" was a movie Clint starred in from 1973... Although is was the follow up to Dirty Harry it is a fine sequel nonetheless. ............Of course a 360 degree turn from this romantic story[with Clint just directing]
@substitute91 Other highly acclaimed/successful movies from 1973: The Sting, Paper Moon, The Exorcist, La Nuit Américaine, Papillon, Badlands, The Day Of The Jackal, Mean Streets, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Holy Mountain, American Graffiti, Serpico, The Crazies, Enter The Dragon, Live And Let Die,...
For me, this is the best love story movie of the 70's. It was an underrated movie. Wish it could've been more successful.

She was hot... But looking back at how love was considered a dirty word in the free love decade makes me laugh and cry at the same time...
