@U4rikmind What is Stereolab's best album? I have everything they ever put out and Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements (1993), Emperor Tomato Ketchup (1996), Mars Audiac Quintet (1994), and Dots And Loops (1997) are my four favorite albums (in that order). But you really can't go wrong with anything The Groop did. The Lab was/is a special band.
from wikipedia: On 2nd April 2009 Stereolab manager Martin Pike posted a message on the band's website, announcing that after 19 years the band would go into hiatus as "there are no plans to record new tracks". =(

im goint to upset the masses here by stating yes they did some unbelievable music... when you consider the rest of the shit around in the mid/late 90's they derserve even more praise.. however they did a lot of awful pretentious new age jazz wank too. i bought 'cobra and phases group voltage......' not one good song on it, the same with 'margerine eclipse', oh and i like throbbing gristle and the fall before you get pretentious
I will be the first and certainly not the last to admit that stereolab is not very good at doing live performances, personally I like them better for the lack of performability.
Um, they were quite good when I saw them at the Fillmore recently. I think you should probably actually see them before you pass such a judgment... this video certainly doesn't do them justice.
...pisces3651, coming from someone that has admitted to liking the B52s and that useless scouse twat Pete burns, that comment was a bit rich!! you obviously have no taste in music whatsoever!! Cock!!
Take this down!!! It makes people think they are an awful live band when, in fact, the 2 times I have seen them (Chicago 2000 and Louisville 96?) they have been one of the best bands I have ever seen live (and I have seen over 400 shows, everyone from Radiohead to Merle Haggard).
This performance is kinda rough, but once the music kicks in it's great! They are great live when they're on. I've seen them at least 7 times live, most shows were awesome. I sure do miss Mary Hansen, though...she was really the secret weapon in the groop. Her tragic death in 2002 took alot of the wind out of Stereolab. Laetitia needs her vocal counterpart, and the horn players that they use now to replicate some of Mary's parts live just don't cut it.
I only discovered Stereolab after Mary Hansen's death, so I've never seen them live. They haven't played much since then, but maybe in 2008!
This sounds awful, but it's not only the band's fault; some of the instruments that keep this thing going are inaudible, and the dropouts make the keyboard sound even more out of time than it is.
"yeah, that sucked -- guess they're more of a studio band" ?!? Uhh... no. You have to see them for your self. They are awesome live. Cant judge a poor quality video on their actual performance!
I love this band but had never seen them live -- since I posted the comment many good live stereolab performances have been posted -- I'm happy to have had my impression corrected and here's proof that not all free content is a good thing! ;]
I love Stereolab with all my heart-but this is an example of an occasion where u had to be there,i'm afraid. If u don't know Stereolab, please don't judge them on this live rendition of one of their more ordinart songs...
really looks like birdland/ brunswick hall in Halifax (1994 they played at pop explosion & I know video exists) ... if so, it was an amazing show but it was also 3am after a very long night
this band has a good sound. I'm curious as to which album could be their best

Emperor Tomato Ketchup is a great Japanese art movie. Forget the fake punk band, watch the movie before you die. Hurry!

Is the title related to the fantastic short movie(1971) by Shuji Terayama ??
vogelmandrie 2 years ago
Yes - Tim Gane got it from a poster of the film, I believe.

Mary and Andy came to my house during this tour to see some vintage drums I had.....
Andy bought some Gretsch 1960's Blue Sparkle bongos from me,and a 1960's Ludwig tamborine for Mary for a B'Day present!
Then,Mary got to looking thru the 1,800 LP's I have, and they were late getting to the gig at the Reptile House>(G.R.Michigan) where they played!
Because they were late..Mary and Laetitia almost got into a cat fight after the concert!
People were like "stay back"! LOL
