This is all well and good, but she ain't fat. It is not over until the fat lady sings. I would not like to work around, be married to or related to these know-it-all witches. People like that make life miserable. This is in Eb Major. I have absolute pitch by the way. She is just not fat enough for me though.
Beautifully sung by a true Wagnerian. In fact, the aria is performed in the correct, (as composed key) key. It is a role intended for Wagnerian Soprano but admirably performed here by a fellow Austrian!
Those of you without an authenticated original score to the opera should not pontificate here on "You Tube." You clearly are ill studied and ill informed.
Leave the pontificating to the few of us genii who really do in fact, know everything!
When you come off your high horse you will see that there was no pontificating on this video by any You Tube posters. The comments I made and that others made or simply questions to further gain information. Please don't go around calling people "ill informed / Ill studied..that is so rude....really!
There is no high-horse. I really am, just far superior to the scores of you underlings and gimps that compose "The Public," of planet earth. As usual you all babble on aimlessly with meaningless, incorrect banter and blather. If you knew what you were talking about, exchanging pleasant conversation with you would be amiable and uplifting.
I think having you euthanized, TODAY, is in order. I'll even generously foot the bill. Where can we collect you to have you taken to a euthanorium?
She is singing from a score that is transposed up 1 and a half steps. Man ..I thought she was high for a mezzo. Evidently she is not a mezzo and they put the aria and recitative in a higher key for her. PHew!
I thought I was losing my mind (or at least a few high notes! )
Interesting... which score are you comparing it with? Margareta Hintermeier is definitely a true mezzo (listen to the Mahler-clip with her) and the tessitura of this aria - here in g major - is rather high for her. Normally I have heard it in this key - by Yvonne Naef in Paris (who had terrible problems), Janis Martin on CD, Urmana and Sutherland on her Wagner recital. Only Felicity Palmer sang it a tone down in f major (at ENO), but I always assumed it was a transposition.
I don't hear a deep mezzo quality in her voice. I will listen to the mahler clip you suggested. From the Mezzo operatic anthology by Shirmer the key is in E flat. Three flats. This seems much more singable for a true mezzo soprano. I would be right in the best part of the voice.
The range for the role is Ab3-Bb5, perfectly singable by a mezzo. There are variations in tessitura, but the role never goes high enough to be considered pure soprano.
totally gonna sing this to my roommate when she gets back.

Is that supposed to be the young and charming Adriano?
The voice is more or less ok, but please, what is this old lady bald up in a sheet, with Margaret Tatcher's hairstyle?

EMI has an interresting recording from the 70´s in the mid-price range. Rene Kollo and the swedish soprano Siv Wennberg as Rienzi and Irene.

Do you know if there is a video of Fricka's aria on you tube?
DivaDeb1234 4 years ago
Actually I intend to post Fricka's aria with Margareta Hintermeier sometime.

Could you please post Fricka's scene. I am planning to learn this and sing it next month on a program! I'd love to see it. I love this woman's voice.
Thank you.
