@Siphida There is a big difference between being sexist and getting carried away by centuries of prejudice. We are all part of a sexist society, all we can do is do our best to get past it. There is no denying that his comments WERE sexist, no need to hang him for that, but he should try to understand why they are so.

@math581 I wasn't saying what he said wasn't sexist, I was saying that he isn't a sexist person and certainly not one that should be so harshly criticized for making comments which were both a non-serious joke and spun out of context twice over. People have been worse in the past and the whole thing is out of proportion. I still think if you believe he's a sexist, you are not only incorrect but paying him a gross disservice.

@Siphida I do NOT believe at all that he's sexist, but his comments - if they are such as the journalist says they are - are ; and this is not a blunder, because they are sufficiently developped to show that he still isn't past the patriarcal notions of female sexuality (which, BTW, is the case of a great majority of women in the way they apprehend thei own body).

I greatly admire Stephen Fry ; he is intelligent enough to understand that, that's why, I think, people are disappointed. [...]

@math581 Except that what he said was absolutely true. Women aren't open about enjoying sex like men. They almost always want something in return for sex, even if it's just 5 way overpriced martinis.

It'd be nice if women could be like men this way, but to say they are already in the name of PC is misguided. If women really allowed themselves to enjoy it like men, then they would behave more like Stephen describes.
