I have the FY-20a in a Parkzone SE5a. I wanted to get rid of as much flutter as possible for doing aerial video. It works great! In fact, it works so well, that now I'm looking at all my planes and thinking about installed on of these in some of them I use for video. The SE5a was a bit of a challenge, because I had to mount the unit upside down in the fuse, so it would be right side up when flying or level. There was a little adjustments need to the gains, but after a few minutes, no problem.
Just ordered mine Bruce, what a simple & effective way to make it Panic proof. Same plane but still not sure about the Vis/Aud trans yet (900 mh, 5.8gig or 1.3gig or evn these EZUHF units).. I use the Aurora 9 2.4. Range is my biggest concern...Going to use a"Go Pro" cam though most likely. Could u do a comparison on various ways 2 get ur Vis/Aud signal 2 the ground & vise versa. This would help alot of unsure people with this critical choice especially me. Wish i had a ironic shirt to send u.
how do u setup switches for the epa in a futaba radio , the fy21ap tells u to set to 900-1200us etc etc. all i get in my 72mhz futaba 9ch is %'s max of 140 i think...hmmmmm can u help me? hollywoodjoe67@yahoo.com
Have you noticed any drift or odd behaviours from this set yet? Someone at my local forum insists the system has issues but he seems reluctant to elaborate about what is wrong exactly. Your videos have however given me enough confidence to invest in such a system, ive got the same airframe waiting for it aswell and it seems like an absolutely idiotproof way to fly FPV.
No throttle control, you must set up fail safe to have the throttle at what ever throttle setting you need to maintain level flight for your bird and your fail safe set to return to home as well. It works like a champ no problems, let me warn you Fyetech and there tech support not all that good, I have had some other issues they haven't fixed yet so we what happens.
In Return To Launch mode, does it control throttle as well, to maintain a preset height? Or does it use either last throttle input or let you control throttle? Very interesting to know if the plane loses contact with your transmitter...
@schooner2000 Just read the blog and seen your using the bundled OSD. Looks like a nice package although as you say pricey. Is there any other similar system you would recommend at a better price?
I have the same system in my Hobbico 60 which powered with an OS 91FS and been converted to a tail dragger and also use it for my FPV. I am really happy with it and enjoy flying it and not having to worry about it, it's hands off when I am flying it. I am using JR X9303 with JR R921 RX and powered with two 2200 mah Lipo batties one for the flight pack and the other for video system, the video has a sony 420 camera which mounted to a pandora pan & tilt. This airplane is fairly heavy about 8 lbs.
Very nice and informative video review, congratulations! I am using the FY21AP since two months in my FPV EasyStar, and I am very satisfied (e. g. auto circling mode is great for FPV).
Scratch that....for less money RVOSD seems better at a glance. Any thoughts? Maybe try to get Range Video to send you one to compare and review. Eagle Tree too maybe....am I forgetting anyone? Any of them would do well to get you in their corner. I would be clamoring to get gear in your hands if I were them!
@wippo76 I dont think so....it seems to be all built in except for IR sensors that add some functionality and stability but the website claims that for the $335 price you get autopilot with return to home and waypoint sequencing. Also it incorporates throttle control which this doesn't and I believe current sensor, although optional, is also included at the $335 price....see, this is precisely why I want someone to get all the top AP/OSD units together and do a comprehensive review......Bruce?
Another great video and review Bruce, very impressive bit of kit! Totally agree with upgrading things like the esc , last thing you want is a model with all that gear on board going down out of sight.
So, am I correct in thinking that the autopilot does not control throttle in any way? I believe that there are some that do but memory isn't serving me at the moment. Also, are there any sensors like current sensors or voltage sensors for a second battery that are NOT included in the FY21AP/AP117 packages? Any support on the horizon for waypoint navigation do you think? The price seems good but for just a little more money it seems I can get a whole lot more than this package offers...
Thanks for the Video, really excellent review, one question, other than the obvious (no capacity to return to home) how you compare the FY20A with the FY21AP they do basically the same from the stability mode point of view?
@wwmilanl From a stability perspective, the FY20A and FY21AP are pretty much identical. I've seen the FY20AP in action and it provide the same level of stability improvement as the 21AP.
I wonder if you turned the power down ,enough to land it ,if it would land itself too? Very cool Sure has a lot of fandangle wires every where heheh GR8 Stuff
@lewandlo To land in stability mode, all you have to do is keep it headed in the right direction and control the power. It'll descend at a very gentle angle. The landing I did in the video used that technique.
Oh, excellent video, as usual. Thanks for making this one!

Thanks for all your great reviews, I'm working my way through them with interest.
I'm interested in using a stability system on an elevon model. Have you looked at this or can you suggest an information resource? Thanks again!

Very good review. Amazing technology, some years ago this would have been strictly military use only.

This would be interesting on a larger model which you can take farther away... Turn on the RTL and 5 minutes later.. "...plane"
Its most useful function is to allow you to have a beer and fly simultaneously.

@nick2008bhs I really like the beer and fly option

I wondered if the gps-antenna works within the fuselage - but it seems to! Not bad! Did you experienced some errors with this system? Is it safe?

but when you buy RVosd you have to buy a IMU and other sensors this set is complete with everything

@catamaranman333
yyes you are right this week i was reading about other systems and you will always need a IMU or other kind of sensors so the price is reasonable
this kid is great accept the lack of throtlle control
for example my receiver shuts down the throttle when loosing signal so the plane will go down
i have no setup for failsafe on the throttle (robbe FX14)
or am I wrong?
bruce can you help me about this problem??
thanks
