if europeans hadnt slaughtered each other to the tune of 70m in two world wars there'd have been no pretext for mass immigration using the labour shortage excuse
@RockAndRollMassacre the pretext is always diffrent,it's not only the work shortage,in my country they say(lies) that they help with social security and natality when they suck welfare and when their natality is bad for us,the arguments are always diffrent,the problem was that they got controll of the Media and they started associating rightfull nationalist organizations that didn't want this multicultural madness with nazism and fascism,and people got scared,and now it's a disaster.
@GaryHall78 I hope you are ok. Maybe it's my age, but I cannot help feeling that the current rioting is motivated purely by avarice (IPad, Trainers etc) - as opposed to the riot in the video which whether you agreed with either side or not, was ideologically motivated.
@fackitWhynot The NF failed in their objective to march from New Cross to Catford Town Hall. The locals stopped their march at Lewisham hill and the cops allowed the NF to have their speeches there and then bundled them onto trains and away from Lewisham.
@fackitWhynot The area was not mostly non white. The March was suppose to be from Clifton Rise, New Cross Gate to Catford Town Hall. The area then and probably still is now in the majority indiginous White. If you go to my video London Facts you will see the census figures for 2001 some 24 years after the riot. If the NF marched through Brixton at that time in 1977 it might have been true there.
@littlebigbrain ah okay thanks for the response, however i live in lewisham right now, been through my whole life, and i couldn't say that new cross/catford/lewisham areas are indiginous white, no matter what the census records say, usually they play down numbers of ethnic minorities for some reason, maybe racism. i would say catford is prboably 50% black, 40% white and 10% asian, this just varies all across lewisham pretty much. Most whites moved out in the 80's.
@182fooz I lived in Lewisham between 1976 & 1987 & moved to Stepney, just across the river from Lewisham, in 1988. The riot was in 1977 & the ethnic mix was as I described then. What has happened in Lewisham since 1987 is a product of mass immigration of the last 34 years since the riot, There were a lot of Goldsmith Univercity students at the demo taking on the NF. Most of them U would not have thought would fight on the streets to keep the NF out. I could tell U loads of stories of that day.
Respond to this video...I'm in and out of Lewisham all the time and still got loads of friends there. One of them is a local councillor who has the pulse of his community so I am well informed about the community. I worked for Lewisham Council for over 4 years in housing and think the clients I came into direct contact with represented a true reflection of the ethnic mix there. The Woodpecker Estate and Pepys Estate are two peculiarities. Sydenham is easily majority local 'Whites'.
I was there, at Clifton Rise (between New Cross Gate and New Cross Stations) In fact I am standing by the bus shelter on the railings as the coppers brought the NF onto New Cross Road, and Lewisham, Ladywell and Catford. The cops got a beating and contrary to what most of the establishment and the NF/BNP say the vast majority of people were like me locals trying to stop these purvayers of hate from marching to Catford. We stopped them at Lewisham Hill. Great to see the cop bike alight again.
wow i didn't know footage of this was about. ty for putting it up. I live in lewisham but was not alive to see this, I only heard about it from my mum
@puretroubleman I grew up in Lewisham myself, can't say it was a pleasant experience. Still one thing I did take from growing up there was an understanding that people's skin colour doesn't matter. The group (I prefer that to the term to gang) that I grew up and hung around with came from all manner of ethnicities. I am proud that so many people stood up the NF.

Did anyone notice their were no Blacks or asians in this footage ..just goes to show that anything with an anti fascism/racist name tag is a Labour/ Tory funded organisation...
Thanks for commenting. However, I am not sure I agree with you. It should be noted that this is a news report and that the full footage includes the ANL holding a rally in New Cross at which there were plenty of black people that attended. The ANL were set up as a sort of offshoot of the Socialist Workers Party so I am fairly certain that the Tories would have had nothing to do with them.
You are 110% the Tories would have had nothing to do with the SWP. Anyone who would think that they were a Tory/Labour (As thought those 2 parties are going to come together) Knows nothing about the politics and history of this country.
Then again, we are talking about people who vote for the BNP now. The average BNP voter knows nothing about politics anyway.
I agree. The spent Tories spent the better part of a decade fighting against what they perceived as a socialist threat ('the enemy within').
As for today, well I think that there are many people alienated from the main parties and who feel that their views are being ignored. This creates a problem as people are then moved to vote for extremists (of whatever hue).
Put simply its a back door way of being a racist under the protection of the law. The BNP stumbled upon this loophole a while back when a few of their supporters got off in court in Leeds.
On the whole I agree. I still think that the major parties need to engage with the white communities within the UK. This would pre-empt and negate any attempt by the BNP to make themselves appear as the voice of the disenfranchised. That said, I still cannot fathom why anybody would vote for the BNP.
I do feel that the Church of England and the Roman Catholic church could be more vocal against racism. That said there are many who have nailed their colours to the mast and who are avidly anti-racist (mind you, the current Pope seems to be doing his level best to undo all their hard work). Thanks for commenting 7jem331.
I would say the Church of England has been very vocal against racism and Islamophobia. The BNP are simply taking advantage in a loophole in the law where religion is not included in racially aggravated public order offences and are therefore targeting Muslims. Black, Asian, Jewish people are all protected by the law but religion is not hence why BNP/EDL concentrate all there efforts on that.
Maybe your right and I am being unduly harsh. I am a bit of a cynic when it comes to religious people as I have problems with the fundamentals of their belief system. Thinking about it, I am fairly certain that there were representatives making speaehes from the various churches at the assembly point in New Cross.
@pianoalien You are talking shit. The community united and at Lewisham by the clock there were many ethnic minorities on the streets. I was on the streets all the way from New Cross Gate to Catford from b4 the start of the NF march until hours after it was abandoned at Lewisham Hill and the NF ran away on the trains. Nobody wanted them there. The police engineered the riot so they could use their riot shields on mainland britain for the first time. So stop talking crap.
@littlebigbrain Why would the police engineer the riot, just so they could use their riot shields ? seems like a pretty small reason to start something so big ?
Anyway i don't think there would have been any need to engineer it. High levels of unemployment, racial tensions, and the NF walking through lewisham, is hardly going to be a calling for world peace :P
@182fooz The objective of the NF march was 2go south up the hill at Clifton Rise, 2get along Lewisham Way 2Lewisham & down 2Rushey Green 2Catford Town Hall. Because they could not get the NF up Clifton Rise the cops brought them up the next street east between the large group at Clifton Rise & another at New Cross Station. The 2groups converged from east & west 2surround the head of the NF march. The cops battled the demonstrators all the way 2Lewisham Hill in attempts 2get2 the NF to Catford.
@182fooz At Lewisham Hill the NF march was disbanded whence they were taken away on some hastily arranged trains that picked them up off an embankment. An Hour after the last NF had gone the police informed the objectors the NF was gone. In that hour the centre of Lewisham had been a riot zone with the police trying 2clear streets 4a march that no longer existed. When word got out the people stopped fighting the police & march away 2Catford.
@182fooz At Ladywell a dozen SPG vans drove in2 the back of the march scattering the demonstrators. The SPG officers piled out of the vans & began attacking everyone in sight. Chasing demonstrators through a graveyard and down side streets. The demonstrators split up into ever and ever smaller groups and the police did likewise. Eventually you had 2/3 officers chasing 20 people or so & the demonstrators would turn & face the ‘pursuing’ cops. Retreat!!! Was the new order
@182fooz A small reason may have a large symbolic rational. The tactics of Northern Ireland street riot control was the model & the Police wanted to get shields in situ in mainland Britain. A peaceful demonstration would not have served that purpose. In the 33 years since we have seen all sorts of riot control systems being imported from a terrorist environment with those tactics being imposed on civil non terrorists demonstrations on the Mainland. The territorial are just the SPG with knobs on.
I laugh when I see this stuff. The UAF and anti nazi league would have us believe they are the great protectors etc. Now if I am not mistaken just about every video you see of so called nazis that have anti nazis in them its always the anti nazis causing the disorder. Sorry you freaks I would go with the nazis anyday.
I don't think that it can be disputed that the ANL were involved in the trouble. However the NF weren't exactly peacable either - more a case of six of one half-a-dozen of the other. The NF chose to march through an area that has a large amount of non-whites living in it. Because of their agenda it was bound to provoke a reaction. Thanks for commenting.
The NF wanted to march in an area where there was a large non white population in order to provoke disorder. The police tried to clear the locals and SWP who wanted to stop them from the roads which started the riot.
Though some of the BNP kiddies today seem to think that this was a Labour/Tory conspiracy.
I believe that 'cavalry charge' at 2:04 went from Lewisham high Street and into Lee High Road. If this is the case then I would have been out of shot to the left and looking down on it from the roof of the RACS. This particular scene seems to have been burned into my memory. I remember watching this on TV when I eventually got home.
My opinion at the time (as is now) was that the NF march shouldn't have gone ahead especially in an area that had a large proportion of immigrants. Fucking madness!!
I think that your right. I applaud your decision to view the scene from the roof of a building... much safer.
It is a quandry of democracy that in allowing the NF to march we afre allowing them to exrecise their right to demonstrate. However, this needs to be offset against the wishes of the area hosting the demonstration. I imagine most people simply wished to carry on with their lives. Again, thank you for taking the time to comment.
@gadders59 You are right. There was a coach there that got smashed. The horses ran up behind Cheesemans Department store and a rise in the road. Steel ball barings were dropped onto the road and the horse lost their feet and the police did a quick retreat. Just opposite on the West side of the high street I heard copper shouting out "Ni**er Lovers" at the demonstrators from behind their shields as they cowered up against the shops. 20 years later I spoke to a cop from that group at Edmonton.
Guess where I was that day... Lewisham High Street! I was working at the RACS (Co-Op) department store. We shut up shop, went up onto the roof and got a panoramic view of the police and the anti-nazis apparently trying to kill each other. (Well, that's what it looked like).
Being an innocent little lad of only eighteen, I'd never seen so much violence in my life and I remember feeling numb when it was all over. Hope i never see anything like this again!
That's fascinating. I lived near Ladywell Baths, so in effect caught the tail-end of it (I was about 8 years old). I do recall people coming down our street in order to get behind the police. We had a couple of windows put through.
The Lewisham Riot really heralded a new era. The Police were armed with riot shields, the violence was more extreme and it beckoned the days of Toxteth and Brixton. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
6. The British State Establishment naturally prefers anti-Racism to anti-Capitalism.
7. Mass-immigration became a policy designed to disperse the workers movement.
8. Political Leftists obsessed with racism and the far-Right are manipulated puppets.
9. Ostensibly the BNP merely constitutes a logical next chapter in all this.
10. However, is offering a way out of such tensions, BNP pose the rgeatest threat to the British State Establishment and to the political and economic status quo.
I think that you have a point although it must be remembered that National Front were exercising their 'democratic right' (at least in their eyes). The Police were very much suffused with racism during the seventies and I think that it would be likely that many sympathised with what NF were saying. My concern is that we have gone full circle and that the 'success' of BNP will see a return to the days of Lewisham, Toxteth and Brixton. I thought we had grown up - it seems I was wrong.
To be truthful, I don't know. I swiped this from an old BBC archive, maybe it (the commentary) got lost. My memories of the incident are quite hazy but I am fairly certain that the television news coverage came with commentary.
@Hirsute63 Fascists = anyone who does not tow the looney lefty line! If you disagree with mass immigration or don't like the muslim religion you are automatically labelled a fascist. The national front were merely calling for an end to mass immigration and pointing out the fact that multi-racialism was not working. If it was how come every area where black people have settled has become a crime ridden ghetto.

IMMIGRATION IS OUT OF CONTROL.
- DEPORT all the two million plus who are here illegally;
- DEPORT all those who commit crimes and whose original nationality was not British;
- REVIEW all recent grants of residence or citizenship to ensure they are still appropriate;
- OFFER grants to those of foreign descent resident here who wish to leave permanently;
- STOP all new immigration except for exceptional cases;
- REJECT ALL asylum seekers who passed safe countries on their way to Britain.

2. The working class divinded ethnically, the political Left in the USA was always weak.
3. Post-WW2, other developed nations desired the same, thus imported multi-culturalism.

Innit though. I mean this is like 2009.
