Yes it makes me cry also, this one of the few movie themes that leaves with a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye, another that comes to mind is the love theme from The Scarlet Letter made around 1995. Love knows no barriers, it's the same with pieces of music and this just happens to be one of those exquisite few.

There is no finer violinist in the world. Cinema Paradiso is what gets me through life. Literally. I used to think I was the lonelinest man in the world. Until, I saw this movie and finally understood: I am no different than all men and women. Yes, I am very glad I am alive when I hear this music played by Mr. Perlman.
