  • happy birthday mum x god,it doesnt get any easier, what i would give for even 5mins with you again . xxx god bless

  • Bless you for this upload....

  • I don't understand why there are negative comments about this song. I was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for over two years and this song makes me swell with pride for my efforts and better understand the hardship it placed on my wife and daughter. I simply do not undertand the people who belittle and mock those of us who risked our lives for our country.

  • this is/was my dads last song at hos funeral...i cant stop listening to it...i love you dad allways.xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @2k8nessie2k8 Bless you my friend I hope that the voice of Jim gives you the same solace it gives me..x

  • This song was about a distant war and losing someone to it. Viet Nam took so many of my generation. I remember this song as it came on a demo 8 track with my new 66 Mustang Convertible and my husband left for Viet Nam in 1967. He came home but was never the same. He later took his own life. So many lost to a useless war.

  • could not listen to this record for a long time, although it came out before my mother passed away and she loved this song, it seemed to be for-telling me of what was to be. It always takes me back to that period of my like whenever i here it.Thanks for this fantastic video. R.I.P. Jim Reeves. and Mam and Dad

  • Thx for all the nice songs on your list love to listen to Jim's music it seems to calm me

  • 18 morons dislike this song

  • @pradeepshah100 Please don't put honest, respectable morons on the level of those who don't like this!!

  • my aunty sung this song to me when i was going to bed for my brouther. because he uesde to sing it to me befor he dide

  • Class, my dad listened to Gentleman Jim when he came home every week from the North Sea, usually spent all Friday afternoon doing the books, paying the crew, and chilling out, didn't know his stress until it was too late, but he had a long life with GJ, (oh and Olivia Newton John - the auld rascal!)

  • all his songs brings tears to my eyes so many memories

  • This aways brings a tear to my eyes as it was played at my Dads' funeral - he too was a gentleman. RIP Daddy xx

  • @dianne65uk it was also played as we were going into the crematorium for my nans cremation

  • @smileysal1976 It was played as we were going into the crematorium too. My Dad had specified that he didn't want a religious service - this was perfect as he was a Jim Reeves fan. I have fond memories of him singing songs such as 'He'll have to go' when I was growing up.

  • my dad woed my mum to this.....

  • RIP cathrine wallace EIRE.

  • GENTLEMAN JIM FOREVER 50 YEARS OF VELVET VOICE

  • soooo rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrromantic

  • fantastic singer with a great voice , 1 of my dads favourite singers PIP DAD, RIP JIM,

  • Jim Reeves incredible velvet voice was silenced way too soon. I loved everything he did. I remember the soft soothing sound of his voice helped my mother out of a nervous breakdown as they used to call them.

  • Thanks, mrtibbs...I'm listening to this probably about 5 times a day now...at least! =)

  • Exhilarating & soothing at the same time!

  • one of the best country singers of all time .lovey to voice of all time

  • Jim Reeves is fucking awesome. AMERICA FUCK YEAH ASSHOLES!!!!!

  • Jim could sing a grocery list and make it sound smooth.

  • A morbid one - but one about which, nonetheless, we receive constant emails. Artists which have topped the chart following their death are:

Artist Cause of death date of

death Post humus no. 1 date/s of

Jim Reeves plane crash July 1964 Distant Drums Sept 1966 Last #1

  • what a beautful song...i first heard it the night before my husband left for Vietnam....1967...and it has stayed in my heart all these years....what a ever lasting voice Jim Reeves had....and how lucky the heavens are to have him now singing in their chore!!

  • call me from another no

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this 1966 UK chart-topper.

  • I just totally adore this...RIP Jim....

  • Mums Favorite xx i was listening to this as i grew up, great memories.

  • Jim Reeves had such a soothing voice . No matter what he sang.

  • my mom used to sing this to me and my sister so many times before going to bed, i suddenly remembered it 10+ years later!!! <3

  • One of my late dads favourite songs. I grew up listening to this type of stuff. What a beautiful voice he had. Its such a shame he died so young. We played it at my mums funeral, as her name was Mary. I probably seem morbid, but it was a very suitable song.

  • @tillie1961 - Agree wholeartedly about the voice and dying tragically so young. He was a favourite of my late mothers and indeed, I still have her treasured singles and L.P's. somewher. When I have a moment to reflect on things, I still listen to his music.

  • dit mooie lied gaat door heel het lichaam

    is o zo prachtig

    dank je

  • Krásné.......!!!!!!!!

  • Reminds me of summer holidays when I was a kid and this was No 1

  • reminds of my childhood

  • When i was a child in the late 70s my nana played jims songs all the time (no one watched tv then ) we would sit in the lounge room in front of the open fire and just enjoy these songs god i MISS nana.i think of YOU ever day 12/08/82 LUV YOU XXX

  • reminds of my dad

  • if only jim could fly

  • great song!!

  • many have tried down the years, but no one has the magic of jim reeves for singing this song

  • What a super smooth voice. Who could resist? B-sides, the words are so warm.

  • @ab1sur2do my dad used to play this as well i used to hate it also now i love this music and hate him what a turn around !!!

  • johnney cash had nothing on this guy

  • many artists down the years have recorded distant drums, but i have yet to here any one do it like the master there as only ever been one jim reeves and even after all these years his voice still calms and relaxes the years may go by but the voice of jim reeves still reaches down the years

  • Like many kids in England in the 70s I was surrounded by Country and Western music from the US. I have fond memories of Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Hank WIlliams, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash and many more.

  • i love to listen to this in my car. it relaxes me and reminds me of my dad.

  • I see John Wayne and 8th Cavalry whenever this song is on, why??

  • @macvatu try the 7th cavalry

  • Nice version of this Cindy Walker composition, but the superior rendition of this song was done by Jimmie Rodgers in 1966 on his Country album. Rodgers' tender tenor voice infuses each word with poignancy. In 1966 during the raging Vietnam War this was an especially touching & meaningful ballad.

  • one of the most distinctive voices of his time

  • this is music that will life for ever, I was a sailor and in the lonely nights far away from home I listened to the music of Jim Reeves.

  • my father used to dance with my mum to this tune and i can see them dancing in my minds eye [things change live the moment ]

  • If i had to chose a Favorite Jim Reeves song i probally couldn't do it but this would be in my top 5 oh by the way this would be the 4th out of his 6 postumous #1 hits and it topped the charts for 4 weeks on 5-21-66.

  • Grew up listening to these songs

  • <3

  • Reminds me of my nan. She absolutely loves his songs.

  • What an amzing voice, still awesome after all these years. what an era!

  • A post-humous hit for Jim Reeves on the Country & Western charts. It was the 101st #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 in the United Kingdom.

  • This Great Voice & Song bring me back to the year 1966 & Sweet Memories.

  • Great voice that will live forever!

  • we need a jim reeves in todays music

  • @lynn61able Well, there is a current artist that has the range, but he just won't do the material. Josh Turner. He could do covers of Jim's music, but whether he would have the same "soul" or not.... Well who's to say. Just wish he would try.

  • Brings back memories of listening to Jim Reeves' great voice as a kid when my father played the Jim Reeves' LPs in his favorite record player!!

  • dig it
