  • See Golem on Wikipedia. Golem Golem stories are very old, going back to early Judaism. But the most famous golem story tells of Judah Loew ben Bezalel, the 16th century chief rabbi of Prague who creates a golem to defend the Prague ghetto from anti-Semitic attacks and pogroms.

  • golem

  • Actually, this version of the film was directed by Paul Wegener who is starring as the "The Golem." This version of the film includes newly restored footage which increase the film's length to approximately 84 minutes.

  • Don't know the actor whom portrayed the Golem in the 1920 adaptation but he appears to be of Asiatic or even Eskimo origin. Could also be a mix of North American Indian. He may even have ancestory from those of the Gobi desert such as the Mongols. I wonder how the director et al came up with such a memorable adaptation of the character. This character has more "character" than the one in which R McDowell starred. I do see some similaries between each. Always vied McD as a rat after this.

  • @kumasie01

Yeah the cheek structure looks very Asian, but it was actually just a fat German guy wearing lots of makeup.

  • The Star of David looks different here in this adaption of Der Golem. It is beautiful here in this form more so than two overlapping triangles. Thanks for calling and sharing.
