Hi, I have an exam coming up which includes a dance. My stimulus is the northern lights, could I possibly use this footage to show the examiner my thought process?
I love your videos. I am a musician. If you are interested we can do some collaboration together I make the song, you make the video and we put it out there. Let me know.
@SuperSanjulian it can some times be even more colorful than on this video. I know because I live here i Tromsø. Some nights the Aurora Borealis is calm goes in slow long waves. Other time it is more action.
Someone asked when to see them. I would say in the evening or nights when it is at dark outside. And ofcourse it help if there is no clouds on the sky :)
@1welcome it depend on the brightness of the Aurora Borealis. You can go to the top of the Island near a little lake called "Prestvannet", it is just a little walk up from Tromsø city centrum. There you will have a good view to the lights. I have often went there for photographing stars and Aurora Borealis.
I'll be going to Poland for work from September to December, and was thinking to go to Norway to catch the Northern Lights, but can only afford a weekend because of work. :( When is the best possible time to travel? My initial plan was on the weekend of November 11 since its a holiday in Poland that time, thus maybe I could spare an extra day for travel.
I am planning a road trip in Scandinavia. I am thinking of Copenhagen - Malmø - Stockholm - Kiruna - Tromsø - Trondheim - Bergen - Oslo - ferry to Cph.
When do you think it would the best time to arrive in Tromsø to see the aurora borealis?
Great video. Very soothing. You can sometimes see the aurora borealis where I live, but it has to be a clear night, and even then it might not be that visible. Where I come from, we call it the Merry Dancers.
@23234A If you want to watch an aurora Borealis, you want to go to the north, and Tromsö is perhaps the best place to do so, if you want to watch the aurora Australis, it's mainly visible in the Antarctica.
Absolutely fantastic video. Thanks. * This should be a remix video I've made this far on the basis of your video. I added music, and part of another video. Here is the result.
So many people travel towards exotic places. To see the sun, get a suntan. Not me, nah ah. I'm going to Norway when I get the chance. I can see enough sun over here and get a suntan in the summer. I can't see the aurora borealis over here, so if it's up to me, send me to Norway!
@torevenm thank u for this upload - it's just beautiful ! may i ask u a couple of questions, pls? how often do the lights appear in tromso, norway? do they last all night long, every night? i can only imagine that it must be like living in a technicolor dream for the residents of that town! anything more u could tell me about the experience of being there while this event is happening would be great to hear. all the best to you from the usa! cece
this is so cool. we saw one in memphis. it is very rare when u see them here. it was right after our football game that we won by the3 way. it was so shocking that we saw it all the way here from one of the poles.
@Pwnz0rz12222 Takk =) Det kommer en dokumentar på NRK nå i høst om jakten på nordlyset, med nye bilder fra meg:) legger de ut her straks programmet er sendt, følg med følg med
what I can remember, most of the frames are jpeg, iso 1000-1600, wide open aperture, exp. time from 2-6 seconds. And the time on the video are faster than realtime, maybe 5-10 times. A new video coming soon!
@BrooklynGirl11 Yes, they move constantly. That's why it's so hard catching a good picture or video of it, 'cos it moves so quickly. One minute it's all over the sky, the next it's gone :)
Hei Tor Even ! Meget stilfull timelaps film du har lagd der ! Bor selv i Tromsø og synes fortsatt at det er verdt å gå ut av og til for a se på. Det røde huset virker kjent. Krakenes på Kvaløya ??
it happened in feb of 2004 if i remember right.i live in iowa and saw it that night and it was awesome.ive seen 3 aural displays in my life all from right here in iowa....its rare but it happens!
I remember seeing the Aurora Borealis as far South as Northern Maine in the Wintertime. Sometimes it would appear as a curtain effect and at others it would look like a diffuse light covering most of the sky overhead.
We were in Tromso in February 09 and saw the aurora just like this - and from the same places! This brought back many happy memories. Thankyou for posting.

Great Time-lapse / Night Photography Video.
But what are the data's of this video, like compression rate ( time in video : real time ) What Exposure time/ISO/Aperture did you use?
The Eos 5D seems to have a good sensor, because the Images are quite low in noise.
