  • why can't they make movies like this anymore?

  • :') I love this!:')

  • Alot of movies are generic these days. same thing, different title, with basic acting. great video, I miss these things

  • Lol shes doing the earliest robot dance

  • @Sumowood Yep. When I was young, this was my first exposure to popping. Ever since then, I started dancing and freestyle popping. Maryss from Paris, Poppin Todd, Poppin Jon, Pandora, Funky Lia - I love them all as inspirations but the most credit goes to Sally Ann Howes for me. <3

  • Why cant I find a version with ONLY the doll on a box.

  • Musical theatre pop-and-lock. :D

  • why is truly a doll?

  • Like this is you heard a Remix by Pogomix. (Under A Spell and Drunk in the Mat-Mobile)

  • THIS IS WHERE POP AND LOCK CAME FROM!?!?!?! WHAAAAAAAAA!?!?! O.O

  • It is funny that the top comment has incorrect info and people keep voting it up...

  • Sally Ann Howes could have been as big as Julie Andrews (she basically plays Julie Andrews in this movie lol) she has the same wonderfull charm and voice.

  • i wanna dress up as her for halloween :)

she is so lovely and it always amazed me how perfectly she pulled the whole thing off.

  • just love this song, they certainly had actresses who looked this beautifull and could showcase amazing voices too..thanks for posting

  • Daaang! Even as a kid i was always amazed at how she's not breathing (at least thats the way it looks) blinking, and keeping that complete Doll Posture....AMAZING

  • <3 the overlapping songs at 3:42

  • I loved it when aussie tv would play this every now and then when i was a kid. even though im a 90s kid, i absolutely love this.

  • The people that disliked this couldn't do what she did or stole her routine for the robot. haha

  • how in the world can she not blink for that long?

  • This is my favorite part of the whole movie =^-^=

  • Anyone else think "My god how on earth did she do this?" SHE DOESNT EVEN BLINK! My favorite scene in the whole movie! Especially when she keeps hitting him xD

  • I am still impressed by this! They really are rather realistic at being dolls! You cannot beat Chitty chitty bang bang :D x

  • I was lucky to have had the fortune of meeting Benny Hill many years ago on Tooting Common where he was just enjoying the day.. He was a very likable chap... R.I.P Benny.

  • Hehe i love the Toymaker

    RIP Benny Hill

  • I love this movie hehhe i own this. now i wanna watch it

  • Comment removed

  • the first ever robot...

  • This must have took aaaaages to rehearse! lol

  • @BronnyBoob She actually did that song-routine on ONE take!! That's pretty amazing!!

  • lol i love the tiny he he laugh at 0:07 sec in

  • 1:54 ¡Benni hill!

  • did this play primary school ! good times !

  • I just saw this movie for the first time yesterday. This was my favorite scene. Amazing!

  • i went to halmark over the weekend with my wife and found a music box that played this very song

  • honestly, I loved this movie, still do but something about this scene really scared me

  • This was always my favourite scene by far :)

  • I though this scene was about them two being held prisoner at the castle with all the children of the kingdom that had been caught, and that they hatch a plan to have them self’s dressed up with the help of the kings toy maker (how is in on the plan )to pass them of as live size dolls his build for the king and they put on a show of the him and his court to distract them all while the kids are making a brake for freedom no?

  • Truly reveals subliminally that its a real person by her song if you listen closely. "What do you see/you people gazing at me/you see a doll on a music box thats wound by a key/how can you tell im under a spell" etc.

I think this is also the scene where they properly make their love known for each other even if they're "acting" as he says "youre the answer to my wishes" and she talks about true loves first kiss. what do you guys think ?

  • I agree with werellstupid. I think Van Dyke's character was not aware of how he was dressed and the makeup. The Toymaker probably did him (them both) up. And compared with Truly, he does look silly. Like, why does she look so beautiful, and I look so silly?

  • @purelightink He is more realizing his character. Truly is the beautiful articulated doll with restricted movements while he is the goofy doll that has freedom. As Caractacus is enamored by Truly he realizes who he is and thinks he someone of his class shouldn't be a women of her class.

Of course, he frees her from her box and they fly off into the sunset.

Are there any more movies like this one?

  • Damm she can do the robot well !!!

  • damn she was hot back in the day!

  • I dont get why he looks at himself in the mirror?

  • @werellstupid It's an analogy of how his character (Coracticus Potts) realizes just how foolish he has been in regards towards Sally Ann Howes's character (Truly Scrumptious; the female "doll" in the scene) and that he doesn't like what he sees in his own reflection. Does that help?

  • @werellstupid honestly. i just thought he looked at himself like he did because he thought he looked absolutely ridiculous. lol. =)

  • This is my ballet song!!

  • i love this

  • I miss the old Disney movies Dick van Dyke was the best now i dislike the new movies there not classic enough and musical enough. I am probley the only person in my school who appreciates them all i heir is I hate the old Disney movies and one girl was like i hate chitty chitty its so dumb the kids are anoying. :( sorry im ranting again

  • Dick Van Dyke looks kinda like Tidus from FF10 if he was dressed up as a clown :D

  • Dick Van Dyke is a one of a kind guy. I cannot think of anyone else who could have done the moves he did in that dance, And Sally Ann Howes was amazing being cosistant with her Dance!!!! They are one of a kind truly one of a kind!!!

  • You just have to love classical slapstick comedy. Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes both did amazing in this scene.

  • what is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang means?

  • @eyeswatermaker it's the noise the car in the film makes when it runs.

  • Question! Why does the clown dude pause and like look at himself in the mirror? Is it just because? Or something else?

  • @Cleek951 I think he gets distracted by his appearence in some way, if you look, she deliberately nudges him to keep in time with her.

  • @Kingiwingi8713 So he's like the Mad Hatter catching a glimpse of himself?

  • Okay, since noone else is saying it this way, then I will. Sally Ann Howes is so incredibly hot in the classiest possible way. A genuine beauty, and a very lovely person. The fact that she has one of the most extraordinary voices I've ever heard only serves to make her that much more endearing playing this character. What a tremendous talent. And as for Dick van Dyke, well... he's a legend, isn't he?

  • What exactlty is Mr. Potts pretending to be? a puppet?

  • this was and is one of my favorite movies of all-time. this is one of the best parts of the movie.. i just love how they put the two songs together like that. i love dick van dyke. classic actor. i am so glad my mom and dad taught my sister and i how to love and appreciate the classics like these. they just don't make them like they used to. i will always have a place in my heart for this beloved movie. so wonderful.

  • Y'know, everytime I see the Baroness I just cant help but think about The Countess from Sesame Street XD

  • This has to be One of the Coolest things I've ever seen! lol :D

  • lol i have to watch this video with the head phones in coz my dad will call me a girl if he hears it. i think this movies amazing and i wish there were real girls like truly :(

  • I have abused to replay button on this video <3

  • @ForeverTheGirl100 your not the only one :)

  • When I was a kid, I watched this movie several times. Thank you so much for posting!

  • 6 people pressed the wrong button because they were turning around on a music box.

  • class act. Those wires on Dick Van Dyke were the same wires they used with the astronauts on the moon landing footage. I Had to load them into trucks.

  • @ObscurityBurger

yes yes i totally believe you........>_>

  • @rent8907 <_<.......yes i totally believe you too

  • The baroness really does not looked amused

  • I wish I could shack van Dyke's hand to think him for all the joy he brought me as a kid with these great movies. Love this song when she sings "wound by a key" the second time it's so melancholy sounding.

  • The king's excitement cracks me up! LOL

  • @TheJiggsCasey

    So true!

  • From what I understand, producers etc didn't think this music box scene could be done, no no comp. gen. then. She nailed it!, & so does Dick Van Dyke.

  • The musical orchestration in this is just lovely. So like a music box with a touch of enchantment.

  • I miss the days when Disney made movies with this. With actors like this. :(

And not to dis Dick van Dyke, because he's absolutely amazing, but I think this scene would've been harder for Sally Ann Howes because she had to be an emotionless, completely still doll the entire time.

  • @Whiirp Strange you mentioned Disney, as this is an MGM film.

  • @Whiirp But, just look at how athletic he was to do this scene...to act like he was attached to strings.

  • @Whiirp glad you like this - hate to tell you Disney did not make this at all....

  • @Whiirp unfortunately, this is not a Disney movie, it's actually an MGM movie. I'm just trying to help.

  • @Whiirp Disney didn't make this.

  • she has one of the prettiest voices doesn't she? I love this movie!:)

  • this song is also another of one of my alternate favorites, helps pass the time:)

  • Fun fact, her shoes are actually nailed to the pedestal.

  • @BabyFawnLegs I didn't know that, thanks for the fun fact!

  • the time when movies were made with lots of thought and heart! :)

  • i thnk its amazing how she was able to stnad still thru this whole scenr, nd how shes so sharp. truly srumptious should betruly amazing...

  • er dick van dyke his is bro name paul?

  • I love how when i get this stuck in my head i automatically start doing the dance (thingy) ^.^ i swear mu children will hear this every morning and husabye bay every night.

  • I see Beny Hill >.>

  • Amazing sequence; love it. The movie as a whole doesn't quite work for me--it's too damn long for one thing--but a lot of the individual song and dance numbers are among the best in any musical ever made. A very sweet number.

  • We just unearthed this movie from our cabinet, and i vant believve that i remember the words!!! i saw this movle like...5 years ago at least!!! this is my favorite part, and my brothers :D thanks for the awesome quality!!! :D:D

  • is dick van dyke doing all those moves without wires?? its like michael jackson moves lol

  • @bdd549 No, when you watch the film on a television you can see the faint flashes of wires.

  • i wanna see them do this kind of artistic dance on sytycd. haha that looks like it takes a lot to perfect. this was my favorite part in this movie. i'm so glad they showed this on tv! =) brings back great memories.

  • 4:29 - Truly Doll: Stop looking at yourself (and get back to singing)!

  • this was always my favorite part of the movie :P

  • Dude, i love this movie.

And the car is so cool. :D

  • It's been 8-9 years since I last saw this and I still remember the words.

  • I still love it when she hits his head on the mirror @4:29

  • This is one of the BEST musical scenes ever! I love it so ...

  • i love it when she pushes him into the mirror lol they are amaizing the actors to be able to do this scene and if moxiegraphix is correct that she did that scene in 1 take, well...

  • Dick Van Dyke is a BEAST!

    Digging the crossover remix

  • WOOOOOO.

    I love this movie!

    So much child hood memories.

I love Julie and Dick Van Dykee(:

  • @delilahheartsyouu Actually, it was Sally Ann Howe--Julie Andrews was in "Mary Poppins."

  • @markedwardindc Yes i knoww(:

Dick Van Dyke was in Mary Poppins. _& Julie wasntt, & i was refering "Julie" to the girl in the movie. But her real name in da movie is "truely" but when i was little i called her Julie. So , it stuck ;)

    Thanks Thoo.

  • this is actually my fav scene from the movie! Love it :)

  • love this but this is scary for me

  • the queen is hot!!!

  • Timeless. I'm 15 and this movie is still one of my favorites. I have it on DVD and VHS. (: Amazing. Dick Van Dyke is just awesome.

  • I want lovely songs like this in kids movies, with a little adult jokes, where teens enjoy looking for their memories in their childhood movies, when kids are amused to watch and watch it over again, instead of these cheap fast animated movies, but there is a few exceptions based on the story!

  • dick van dyke is absolutley AMAZING he is my favourite actor of all time

  • You know what I've never noticed before? at 4:30, Truly totally pushes Van Dyke to get his attention.... that is epic

  • his make up is so cute here ^^ this would be a great halloween costume

  • the origin of The Robot?

  • shes's good

  • good quality!

  • this is one of Dick Van Dykes all time best movies!!! I love it

  • There is NO equal to Dick van dyke in Hollywood, anywhere now, or ever. He was one of a kind.

  • @jeannedarc624 IDK... I think Gene Kelly gave him a run for his money- but you're right he is one of a kind :3

  • @jeannedarc624 Was? The man's still alive!

  • @SiiinginInTheRain yeah my mom and i cn night in the museum and i told her over and over it was dick van dyke! she thought he was dead.... i was right! :P

  • @jeannedarc624

I agree, but there was ONE equal. Danny Kaye.

  • @jeannedarc624 yes there is no equal, but you should have said "is" not was, he is still alive and kicking. He was about 43 when they filmed this and at the age of 85 he is still making movies. He is 80 years old in Night in the museum.

  • @jeannedarc624 amen!!!

  • @jeannedarc624 indeed dvd is awesome

  • He's imitating a puppet? I always thought he was being one of those Raggedy Ann dolls. xD

  • I think he was imitating a Raggedy Ann doll.

  • I love the duet song aswell, Dick's voice is so charming.

  • Dick Van Dyke's performance imitating a puppet is incredible.

  • he's a puppet? I always wondered what kind of toy he was inmitating.

I always thought he was pretending to be a...robot or something. but that seemed a bit advanced by a toymaker with only wood and paint for use

  • How Sally can keep a straight face in this scene is beyond me...

  • Lionel Jeffries died today

  • whats so ironic about this part in the movie is these people hate kids!!!but play with toys lol..and in the beginning of this scene when they were dancing in the movie they looked like spoiled children lol

  • i think she did an awesome job imitating a wooden doll!!!!

  • me too

  • This is my favorite song in the whole movie!

  • mee toooooo

  • me too lol

  • lmao, at 4:26 you notice he's so wrapped up in how ridiculous he looks that she pushes his head into the mirror.

  • LOL!!! your right thats hiarious..i love this movie..

  • OMG i never noticed that!!!

i always used to think that he just headbutted the mirror, but i see it now!!!

    LOL love it!!!

  • i noticed that the first time i saw the movie

  • Earlyer people said that He looked in the mirror cuz his makeup was smudged Thats not true He relises how foolish he looks. The song symbolises himself and truly him being to flexible her being to rigid. when he relises he looks like an idiot...etc etc

  • thats true i never noticed that before

  • dont they put weights in your shoes so that you can maintain your balance and thats why his shoes look so funny? but i also know that some people can do that without any help :D

  • If you look closely, you may see strings.

  • There used to be a skit put on by Sid & Marty croft that is very like this one....Raggedy anne & Andy-esque....if you liked this then you ought to check it out also.

  • Arbeit Macht Frei. x

  • This was probably the hardest part to do in the whole movie xD

  • as plans to infiltrate a castle go, this is probably the most insane. but you know, what the hell

  • THIS IS SO HARD TO DO and did anyone notice that in the begining she doesnt even MOVE her legs omg

  • His wife is probably 20 years older dude. And WAYY less pretty. Have you even seen the movie?

  • the baron is more attracted to the truly as a music box rather than his hot younger wife. lol

  • she could be a really good popper/breakdancer!!!

  • ITS BENNY HILL! WOOT

  • Dick Van Dyke looks like he has sticks of butter for feet! haha
