  • did you take the ridge shingles (tabs) off that were under the metal flashing of the chimney? Ive left those tabs on and let them run 1.5 feet out. After that all tabs are gone till the end of the roof where I left them on the last foot. Im thinking the tabs should go then the roll on roofing goes on over top but im worried that rain could get in by the chimney run down the flashing and under the roll on roofing so I want it waterproof there and left the tabs on.

  • @CanadianReich

No do not take any shingles near chimney or edge of the roof. Put your ridge vent on top of this singles just for cosmetic only.

  • @MrEnergyFree yup thats what i did. thanks :)

  • nice

  • This gay is a butcher!

  • Nice video. Wow, thats some beefy-looking roof decking on the house, they dont build them like that anymore.

  • these ridge vents are NICE and they work great!!! I just put them on my house and I am an AMATURE! There are videos on here the U of Florida did that proves how good they work. And this guy is very good at what he does. Nice Video.

  • Has snow or water ever been known to blow up under the ridgevent in high winds? Also that looks like a pretty solid roofdeck. Was it hard to cut?

No problem so far. It is great, I strongly recommended to improve house ventilation. One day work for one person crazy enough to go to the roof. I used plenty protective gear and cell phone with me all the time.

  • @brokensokacreations the stuff he used looks like the lo-omni roll stuff I have and its good. Ive heard bad things about the mesh stuff that looks like you can buff grime off of dishes though.

  • Thanks for making this video! Kind of ackward on a steep roof to hold a camera and narrate... I need to install a ridge vent on a walk-on roof which has attic insulation added but poor ventilation. The sheathing is rotting from inside the attic. The previous owner evidently did not understand that he was destroying the structure of the roof by trapping moisture inside the attic. .

  • the way you speak is sexy! ;)

  • Great video! It was very helpful. Thank you.

  • I've always wondered how to put one on. Thanks for the video; short and to the point and well detailed.

  • Thanks for the video - very helpful.

  • Thank you for comment.

Adding additional venting to the soffit is a most but a this time there are more important task to do to improve heating and cooling in my house.

You will see in future video.

  • Nice job, I bet that cordless saw is the way to go.

I know heat buildup is a real killer for shingles.

Will you be adding additional venting to the soffits?

Be sure to seal your chimney chase (the cavity that runs from attic to the basement) and any "wet walls" where the plumbing and Vent run through the walls. You would be surprised how much air you loose out your roof if it isn't sealed. or how much cold air spills downward in winter. I foamed mine where it was a big gap and caulked the rest
