It's really too bad that Disney is such a big company that they could care less about the non-paying members. No wonder POTC is losing popularity! Disney is making money off the people who play their game through advertisements. It would be better if they offered a way to offer unlimited access without paying. Reward players for being exposed to their advertisements by giving them a free month membership for every $100 of advertising they get exposed to from playing the game.

I have a question: if I were to, say, use a code to temporarily upgrade to Unlimited Access, then buy a bunch of powerful ships and weapons and stuff, would I lose the ships/weapons/etc. when I went back to basic access?

I honestly have no idea. I'm guessing though that if you became basic access after buying all those powerful ships then you wouldn't be able to use them, but if you got unlimited access again then you would be able to use them again.

I had unlimited access and I canceled it. Believe it or not I am upgrading for this reason. I have really good ships but I can't use them anymore. I ended up having to buy a weak basic access boat. So no you don't lose it but you can't use it.

When I played the Beta, you could just select your friend, and then a 'Travel to' option. So back then, it was extremely easy to meet up with your friends. Since I only played the Beta, I don't know what it's like now though =\
