I love this band and the song is sublime. Every once in a while you get a band or an artist that really changes things, and this is one of them. BTW If you like this check out my music, it has a similar kind of vibe.
god this was the highlight for me, i was in Edingbrugh 06 when i 1st saw them and i had never heard it before, goosebumps and shivers big time, wish this version was recorded instead of IN Rainbows album version
I love this song, but I don't like the fact it didn't settle down when he sings the last lyrics, "No matter what happens now, you shouldn't be afraid, because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen".
That sentence doesn't seem as powerful to me when it has more energy. He normally sings it with such emotion.
I'm not too crazy about the sudden pitch change like the one at 2:12, and the few times Thom does it after that. It seemed a little awkward. But this is a great song. The Bonnaroo performance I thought was more graceful.
yes I am.actually i ve heard the exit music for a film only 200 times...I have to heard it 800 yet to freak out with it and then to move on on this song anyway I think it's monotonous
I think the general concensus is that 9/10 people tprefer this version to the one on the disc, though blame old thom for digging the album one more... :p
yup, love that rythmical transition at around 02.11 (drums at "this is my way of saying goodbye"). Though Arpeggio turned out even better on the album (as many other songs), Videotape was morphed into something much less interesting after their pilot tour
yeah i think the album version has an intimacy to it that this one can't touch. it's curious, it's something no other band would dream of doing, and it rules.
Greenwood's guitar is almost completly out... :(( that's very unfortunate, I saw a few live versions of Videotape on youtube and he's just loving this song, like in the old "Creep" days. Very nostalgic for me. But I'm very grateful that they still do not dissapoint me, after 15 yrs. Whole lotta time :(
Johnny HATED Creep when they were recording it. In fact those chops just before the chorus was him trying to mess the song up so they wouldn't record it....too bad for him and thank goodness for the band, it helped make the song. But I do love the building tension in this version of the song, and the opposing beats by the drum and piano. Amazing a song could be performed so many different ways and STILL be one of the most beautiful things recorded!
I think the reason this one is so much better to me is the drums hitting the upbeat, which counterpoints Thom's piano on the down beat. It gives it alot of power.
I do favor this version, it's just so much bigger and climactic. I hope they keep playing this version live. But the recorded version is still great in it's own way.
I think it's just that most people, including myself, had a certain expectation on the direction that RH would go on the album for Videotape. But once you get past that, I think you can appreciate it for what it is. And no, I'm not saying this because I'm a RH fan and feel so compelled to force myself to like whatever they do.
Yeah, I do, but I also think if this version were on the album, it would have to be before a closer... and then the closer wouldn't have been as good.
I agree with aerodynamic. When you hear a song like this, you have wonder how any pop artist can say they play music. Its like a hobo banging on a tin can compared to the New York symphony (assuming the hobo ISNT thom yorke).
there is no official date of yet. keep on top of things at ateaseweb or check their websites..radioheadcom/deadairspace and hodiaudirektonblogspotcom (though both of these latter links are much more cryptic and unyielding of much concrete information)
This is probably the only song that is sure to make the lp7. Even on their website it say Red, Blue, Green. My second favorite possible song for the album is 4 minute warning but this is as good as they have ever been
You guys definitely need to check out the From the Underground version of this song kickin' around on youtube. It's just Thom solo on the piano and it is extraordinary.
Man... no matter how many bands I listen to or how many genres I deviate to... this band will always be my favourite... Whatever music they pull out of their asses always smells beautiful!!!
Play this song in my funeral :)

Man, I didn't get all the fuss around this song being so great, and I still don't.
The IR version is so fucking fantastic, and this... is sadly very bland and un-Radiohead. I mean that is a bad way.

Apparently, he didn't love it enough. It was Jonny and producer Nigel Godrich who stripped it back when Thom was away.

i find this too choppy.
i prefer the anticlimactic, melancholy-ness of the album version, and especially the piano only. but, to each his own.
they are all brilliant, nonetheless.
