  • what song was the riff at 7:57 from???

  • those flames on JP's tshirt are coming from his arms

  • mantap pakdeeee....

  • 1:33 Portnoy's like, "Hey, they talking bout me lol!"

  • wish i could have scored tickets to this concert...

  • It's called Score cause we all scored after the show. Except for Petrucci. He can't go near women for fear of crushing them.

  • is it me or does labrie look like michael douglas

  • 2:40....holy shit! :3

    *orgasm*

  • Am i the only one who is noticing LaBrie at 7:09 ?

  • Welcome to the Machine!

  • I wish I was John Petrucci...

  • @jodstasic I wish I could play like him.

  • @Utorak007 does have a good sense for music.

  • LaBrie's vocals on this concert are much better than on concert at Budokan.

  • @kubo86811 yeah more range and stuff :P but hes more awesome to day then ever xD

  • 5:10-5:24

    HOW

    *universe explodes*

  • This is one of my favorite songs!

  • Take all of me.. the desires that keep burning deep inside... cast them all away

and help to give me strenght to face another day....

  • this band sucks ass you cant call is progressive. real progressive rock is "emerson, lake and palmer"

  • @lukuntri it's a progressive metal band !

  • @PtitMallerayzan Fuck yeah!!!!

  • @lukuntri Yes, yes... there was, is, and will only ever be one "real" progressive rock band... because that's the band you happen to consider definitive... why don't you write an encyclopedic-length book on that subject, and I'll be sure to buy it... since you're so knowledgeable and wise.

  • @iceman992992 i dont get your sarcasm

  • 5:25 what a bipolar rudess xD

  • 5:16 "Mass Genocide Mode = ON"

  • one of the best performance of James Labrie where you can hear his high notes!

  • What in the world is there to dislike about this?? You either like Dream Theater or you don't. If you don't...go away!

  • His vibrato is so amazing!

  • The Root of All Evil - Best heavy riff ever!!

  • @MHasseldam I think it came from This Dying Soul

    BTW

This Dying Soul - Best ending solo ever

  • @jodstasic No no, I mean the opening / main theme riff that is kinda chromatic.. Not the This Dying Soul reference in the interlude, which is cool too.. But damn!! I just never gets tired of that riff!! So fucking heavy! :)

But yeah, it's a part of Portnoys 12-steps saga in rehabilitation.. 5 fantastic pieces!!

  • super lame crowd

  • 5:17 is just silly....its too fast!!! XD

  • Space Marine Good.

  • Fucking amazing intro. You cant only listen to it once you gotta keep replaying it. Just too beast

  • this is best

  • this song is about Mike portney's drinking obsession just like the three other songs he has writtin in co. with these songs, this is probably my favourite of the other three as much as glass prison is absolutely awesome there is just something about this song that makes it what is... the tone is just fabulous, especially in La brie's voice, they have used it throughout the whole octavarium album.

  • @fernievidal 1) The Glass Prison. 2) This dying Soul. 3) The Root of All Evil. 4) Repentance. and 5) The Shattered Fortress.

  • James always sounds great, except where its obvious. You guys can deny it all u want (this isnt pointed at anyone in particular, but I hear it all the time), but he IS the voice of Dream Theater

  • @MrMusicman456 That's a Fact, I can't imagine dream theater without his voice.

  • the singer looks and sound a bit like fat version of dave mustaine...

  • @DiamondDimebagDarrel dave mustaine has a rough voice o_O, beside james labrie is a tenor...

  • sexy voice for a sexy man *drools*

  • 5:30 the finger of death!

  • This is the first song I don't see James singing out of tune.

  • the crowd is pretty dead

  • @Zefosi

woah woah woah, hold on, lol :13 is "dead" to you?!?!

  • sorry i didnt read the hetica1´s comment, its great that they make that on their music, this just make us see what kind of band is dream theater, amazing music, powerfull sound and deep lyrics... perfect band!

  • i have a doubt... its just me or at 4:51 the voice sounds like "this dying soul"? anyway dream theater rocks!

  • Humility now my only hope

Won't you take all of me

    Heal this dying soul

  • amm thaks but i didnt mean the lyrics but the way he sings it, u have to admit that sounds like this dying soul, or what do u think?

  • Absolutely, and in "this dying soul," they have a part that sounds exactly like "the glass prison."

  • They're all part of the AA suite Mike Portnoy writes. Repentance also belongs to this suite and a few other songs I can't remember right now. "Hello, mirror so glad to see you my friend, It's been a while" ;) great band

  • The Glass Prison - This Dying Soul - The Root of all evil - Repentance

That's it, I think. Have I forgotton anything?

Ya these songs belong thematically and storywise together.

  • yep that's it. More yet to come in upcoming albums

  • Dream Theater is pretty intertextual band ;) they seem to like to put short reprices from previous songs to new songs :)

  • thats because this song is part of the AA suite that mike writes. the Glass Prison, This Dying Soul ,The Root of all evil and Repentance are all part of it so certain things are repeated throughout

  • He did a very good job singing this.

  • i only dont like the vocalist much, but he is ok. Im really a fan of the riffs that Petrucci, portnoy, Rudess, and Myung play together.

  • The keyboard work is awesome too :)

  • yeah...haha youre right...he mentioned "Rudess" too

  • Let's all laugh a little bit at my stupidity :->

  • Oops, I'll amend that last comment, I was off taking a coffee break during the first minute or so and didn't see the video/flashing lights, hahaha! But at least it wasn't an issue once the song kicked into gear

  • Fantastic! So great to see a progressive rock performance in which the focus is on the music and the musicians, and not cluttered with an endless stream of accompanying videos and seizure-inducing lights (COUGH* LATEST RUSH DVD* COUGH*)...

  • great song.octavarium is a great album.great lyrics.this songs has a piece of "this dying soul" and also systematic chaos has the song "repentance" and it has a piece of the lyrics " hello mirror so glad to see y my friend"

  • They're part of the same story

The Glass Prison is the first part. Then the story goes on with This Dying Soul, The Root Of All Evil, Repentance and will continue on the next album.

  • thank u so much...

  • They're all the part of the same story. The Glass Prison starts it, followed by This Dying Soul, then The Root of All Evil, then Repentance. If you notice you'll see This Dying Soul has some of the lyrics of The Glass Prison aswell.

It's also believed that The Mirror (from Awake) is a prequel to the entire song line as the themes are similar.

  • ok...yeah i notice that..i love the lyrics from this band..really epic

  • BEtter than studio

  • love the whole thing, but that beginning is so mind boggling awesome. The amount of thought they put into everything, and how much they all love what they do is so contagious.

  • Amazing... Octavarium is nice!

  • wow... just... WOW

  • Simply amazing

  • oh my god! Intense begenning!!! :O

  • Thanks.....period!

  • this is my favorite dream theatre song ...cause it builds so well with the solos>

  • What cymbal is MP using right in the beginning?

  • this guys way to awsome...the only thing that they have not done yet is fly....my favourite band for far

  • So they have been walking on water?

  • Undoutably

  • DREAM THEATER FTW, by far my favourite band :D

  • The length of their songs is one of the best things about them. The length just adds to the awesome. These aint no trash pop songs. Also dont try to swear in a language u evidently cannot speak!

  • they have like one song thats longer than that... most of them are 3 to 10 mins...

  • That's what makes Dream Theater Dream Theater. That's the reason we love their music.

  • i love this song

  • Labrie's voice is brilliant on this DVD

  • @Resevil Even in Afterlife song? o.O :/

  • Dream Theater is the best that ever existed. But there are two things I'm not clear on.

    1. Is it Dream Theater or Dream Theatre

    2. How long of these guys been around?

  • 1. Dream Theater

    2. This show is for the 20th(Oficial) Dream Theater's Aniversary, but they're around for a litle more, somethin' like 25 years.

  • Dream Theater. 1st album was in 89. I'm sure they formed a year or 2 earlier. John P and John M have known each other since they were kids.

  • It is Dream Theater.

  • and mixture "this Dying soul"

  • They're amazing. Their next album will be released in 2009, Portnoy said that he just finished recording drums for the album.

  • It is said that the album is supposed to have a mixture of "Glass Prison" "Octavarium" "Change of Seasons" "Pull me Under" and "Learning to Live"

If you are anything like me, I am VERY excited for this album

  • They're just not from this world...

  • this is my nomber 1 fav song by dream theater

  • Was this the first song of the night? if so, epic intro. ^^

  • Yep, first song of the evening. Probably the best live show intro in DT history so far. The bassdrums, alarm sounds & delayed chords give me chills. Just amazing.

  • The remastering with James' voice on this DVD is good. Somehow they managed to capture the acoustics of the hall very well.

He can get intolerable live, but he's getting to that age where he just can't belt it like he used to. He's the best singer for this band, and probably one of the best rock singers along with Freddy, Perry, Plante, and so forth.

  • FUCK YOU 03524874!!!!!!

  • Then don't watch this, and go wank your self on a Britney Spears video!

  • you have absolutely NO IDEA what you are talking about.

  • We see that each one of them are probably an amazing amount more talented then your favorites. And portnoy writes absolutly amazing songs and their epic. Maby thats what we see in these virtuosos

  • La ura la cancion pa la chulapi

    Aguante Dream!!

  • its probly just me... but james kinda looks like lincoln burrows

  • haha i love the guy air druming in the front of the crowd

  • james' expression at 4:32 when he says "help me break these chains" is just awesome. he sounds so good in this concert.

  • I went to this concert in NYC. It was at the Radio City Music hall, April 4th, 06. Took off school on friday and left for NYC, stayed in NYC for 3 days just to see this concert. It was absolutely AMAZING. The most unforgettable experience of my life. DT kicks even more ass live.

  • That intro was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One word describes this video... Amazing

  • Project 86 fan?

  • when petrucci plays solo, it seems easy, but its fuckin hard to play it like he... petrucci & DT rulez...

  • Just started listening to Dream Theater recently, so far, really liking them.

And it seems they're also very good live! That's good. :)

I'm putting them on my favorite list right beside Megadeth and Jonathan Coulton.

    Very good band. :)

  • Anyone notice that at 3:35 Portnoy throws his drum stick up?

  • he does that all the time

  • Call and ambulance! My face is melting!

  • james actually sounds good live here!

  • he always does :)

just sometimes he takes his long notes too far lol

  • I guess he was really going for it, this being recorded an all! Shame what happened to his throat though, I mean the guy is an awesome singer now! But back in the good old days he was even better!

  • @SmittyBaGitty he's good at singin in lower notes, it's more mature, he need to stop singing the old ones, he just screamed back then

  • absolutetly love this band. Pink Floyd rule, and these rule too. These are EASILY the best band in the last 20 years

  • The beginning of the root of all evil is the EXACT opening to welcome to the machine by pink floyd :]

  • I must say that I don't understand that Labrie-bashing fashion. Like Viper0074 said, Dream Theater wouldn't be the same without him, his voice is just as distinctive as each member's playing.

"Terrible voice"? Oh come on, there is so many incomparably worse singers in progressive rock bands! Just take a listen at some Collage, for instance!

  • LOL. Dragonforce have made one good song, and the others are just the copies of first one, with little changes. Besides, band totally sucks live, so comparing them with DT is an insult.

  • i wasnt insulting DT, i'm a big fan. There was a comment up before that.

  • Which one's the good one? Lol

  • how about, yes

  • Forget Dragonforce xD They suck live!

  • Forget dragonforce period, they suck always.

  • RohanPogi: I agree about LaBrie's singing. He's not that great, but he'll do. To get rid of him now, Dream Theater would not be the same.

    Just my two cents.

  • If you haven't, check out how he was in 94 and earlier live. He was AMAZING. Now i'm not on of those labrie huggers who say he's not good because of the cord rupture, cause he's had plenty of time to recover and just doesn't do what he used to for whatever reason, but back when he was trying and didn't have the cord problem, he really was a vocal god.

  • yup it's because of the singer. he can't sing. they should replace that guy.

  • what about their instrumentals?

  • their instrumentals are fine. the only problem is the singing...peace.

  • soooooooo good.

  • Interesting, I'm getting the DVD right now.

I have to say that I didn't like the last album of DT, but the old ones really rock!

  • -_-

  • Fucking Hard metalhead.

  • They kind of have to do complex things and when they do, they have to concentrate sincethey incorporate strange time signatures and what not. Not so much in this song but headbanging is not their thing. I couldn't imagine Petrucci headbanging.

  • they express themselves through their music..they dont need to run around like morons to increase their stage presence..

  • The live version is so muuuuuch better than original... even though cd vers is perfect, too!

  • this song is so intense i just love it!! one of my DT favorites ...stop complaining about portnoy's voice you noobs hes your new god on drums

  • Well you had me actually going to check it out until you said don't be jealous, like some hiphop following retard goin DONT BE HATIN. You're just another fucking idiot who's completely tone deaf.

  • whoa man.....don't be angry. I wasn't trying to be bitchy, but you took it that way. No hard feelings. I just suggested that you listen to that part and see if you get a different opinion.

Maybe I went a bit too far by saying don't be jealous, but maybe you need an anger management course? This is youtube....nothing to get flustered about.

  • Dude when someone is a dick online you don't need to apologize. They are the ones who are getting too over-reactive online... pathetic behavior.

  • hey, man, thanks. Yeah, he was being a dick. However, I don't like to stoop that low and start cursing back. Lots of people do that and it just creates bad feelings.

  • haven't heard one bad song by dream theater yet this is one of my favorite

  • DT to me is like rush on steroids, but still a kick ass killer band, I would love to go see them live

  • o come on therer r not that goood

just kidding there r all god :)

  • fucking awesome ..

MP and JP roaring at :58-:59 ..

    legends .. epic

  • The audience couldn't ask for a better beginning of an concert ^^ DT FTW!!!!!!!

  • fucking right man this has the most amazing intro

  • what about as i am...

  • dude portnoy's voice is godly too. Geez...he could be the lead singer if LaBrie was sick or something....but he knows LaBrie is the Chosen One!

  • Yeah right haha.. Have you ever heard him without Labrie being 10x louder than him and no distortion on his voice (like the recordings)? Go look up their cover of PF's "hey you", he actually tries to sing and it's so tragic it ruins the whole song. Godly? Hahaha.

  • Yeah, well watch about 2:30 in to part 6/8 of Chaos in Progress, where Portnoy does voice-overs. He gets damn high, and is in tune, and has a clear tone. Just don't be jealous.

  • Lol I love how Mike stands sometimes when he's playing.
