  • Will your bike bog down like a car does of your going to fast and you don't break to slow but just down shift...? Hope that makes sense :p

  • self appointed expert

  • i like the color coded 6,5,4,3,2,1, gear indicators good stuff for newbzzzz to watch... keep vloggin ride safe man :)

  • gah i miss AZ.

  • lol attempted 7th gear. yeah without any sort of gear indicator, i do that quite a bit on my 250.

  • Rebel what high school you go to? I miss Az, I live in cali now, but Az is SOOO nice to live, the only downfall is the damn heat :/

  • I'm going to be a new rider soon, hopefully and I'm trying to understand downshiting better.

Are you holding the clutch through all the gears or do you hold and release after each?

  • hey is it ok just to clutch it when you know you are comming to a stop, like going 40 50 60 in 6th or any gear and just clutch it all the way to a stop? and it is alright to cruise at a low rpm say like at 2000 or 3000rpm in 6th gear (no clue what the speed is) for that but would that be ok? and last question. is it ok to cruise to a stop in any gear and then clutching it around idle? thank you

  • eh i just shift to 1st and glide to the light.

    :P

  • do u get hot riding in alll your gear in arizona

  • @con3legend You'll get hot in general in AZ lol

  • you said "WHAT THE L!?!" haha .. funny kinda weird

  • Ok So if im rolling at 70 mph on a highway

and i ease on the rear brakes then soft on front down to 30 and now 0 but keep in 5th then gear quickly to 1st then N rev it to 3.5(thousand) would that hurt the tranny im a ricer in dragging with a 93 honda

but i need to know if its the same with a M.C.

  • if you think thats traffic come to new jersey lol. Btw love your vids

  • wow arizona looks like a really nice place to live man

  • Okay so why cant you just pull in the clutch, downshift to neutral, then coast and brake to the light?

  • @WhatWouldDerekDo Can do that.. or simply downshift to first.. have the clutch pulled in till you reach the signal, brake, and then shift to neutral. In the latter case, it's quicker to get going again if you have to (if the light turns green) because you're already in first gear.

  • is that Santiago, Chile?

  • Hi! i was told you need to press the clutch lever all the way in to proper change gears, or you'll force your gear box and gears and reduce life of engine smthg like that. do you know anything about it? i got used to shifting using only two fingers and pressing the clutch against my two remaining fingers on the handlebar, so i could still press my clutch a little more, but changed gears anyway. have i been screwing up my bike??

  • @pedroaguiaromundo nah, you're good. As long as the clutch is all the way out of the friction zone. Meaning most of the way in, and you don't get excessive noise when shifting you'll be fine. but if you are still in the friction zone while shifting, yes it will potentially cause damage to the engine. I had two suzuki's that the clutch didn't even start to engage until the lever was more than half way out. It depends on the bike more than anything else.

    Be safe!

  • Hey do you just feather it out with the help of the throttle? Or are you just slowly letting the clutch out?

  • Helmet cameras not allowed in Arizona?

  • you were no help suck dik

  • Hey Rebel...long time no see, another great video,I love all your videos about your motorcycling!! I am getting my 250 sometime late next year so yeah!!! I just have to get it and keep it a secret from my mom but my dad doesn't care!! In your vid when ur teachin someone how to ride what vid did he say he watched to help him?? Thanks!!!

  • Do you ever just pull the clutch in while braking and downshift a couple of gears when going around a corner and then engage the clutch?

  • @rxvexe You can't.

  • why can't you stay in 6th or at any gear all the time? is it because it sounds different?

  • @o0jun0o You have no clue how engines and transmissions work do you? It's sad the amount of people too ignorant to ride a manual vehicle.

  • @o0jun0o Have you rode a bike before? The kind you peddle? Well imagine putting it in the highest gear it has, then trying to get moving from a stop. Sound easy? Now imagine you're going full speed in top gear on it, then put it in first gear and see if you can keep going full speed. The purpose of gears is pretty much to keep the narrow engine power band in sync with the wide range of road speeds.

  • @iZenSoda ty for answering, i know im noob,,, its just that i want to learn everything i can as thoroughly as i can sry if i sound dumb

  • @o0jun0o It's no problem at all. We all have to start somewhere.

  • @o0jun0o Because the engine can't pull to motorcycle in 6th gear. Take your bike, and put it in the biggest gear you can up front, smallest in the back, and then try starting. It takes a LOT of effort to get the bike going. Same thing on a motorcycle. You need the gears to get more torque or speed. The lower the gear (1st, for example), the higher the torque, but the lower the speed. The higher the gear, the lower the torque, but the higher the speed.

  • Do you throttle at all while downshifting to make it a smoother transition? I drive a manual car, usually when coming to a stop after being in 5th gear I just leave it in 5th until I get down to about 1k RPMs before it stalls which is about 15mph and then I put it in neutral. Is this possible with a bike or not recommended since you need much more control over the bike and downshifting actually helps you slow down faster. This is a main question of mine, thanks :)

  • when u (personally) shift down do u just hold the clutch in the whole time then shift down until first?

  • @kawasakipride27 In this video he definitely isn't just holding it down, when the clutch is enabled it puts it in neutral basically, so you wouldn't hear the bike revving down when he downshifts. So the answer is no, he is taking it from 5th to 4th, then letting off the clutch to slow down the bike with it's own RPM, then when the RPMs are low enough, he takes it down another gear and repeats while braking.

  • @thiskory99 oh ok thanx

  • Slightly curious, why were you in 6th gear under 100 Kmh? don't you find that it takes you out of your power band? I never had to break out of 3rd or 4th inside my city on a 2008 Ninja 250.

    Even less on my F4i.

  • He never puts it in neutral?

  • How do you keep from downshifting with high RPMs? If Im going 45 MPH, and Im coming up on a light, how fast do I down shift? Can I go 5th,4th,3rd,2nd,1st all in a row with out letting the clutch out? Or do I have to give gas and do one at a time?

  • when u downshift from 2nd to 1st, do u have to click the gear down with your foot twice to get pass neutral, or will it skip neutral and go into 1st gear? if im not mistakin isnt 1st gear one click down from neutral?

  • @ruebe8806 neutral is halfway between first and seccond so just hit down once while in seccond to get to first

  • LOL at the end of the vid "ahh my balls hurt.." O_O

  • hi rebel i am getting a ninja 250 soon and i was wondering if you shift at a certain rpm or do you just wing it? ive only ridin dirtbikes before and i've never had to worry about rpm so im concerned about it now. please help.

  • you can basically upshift whenever you feel nessisary.

same with downshifting but don't downshift at high rpms - otherwise, it may lead to rear wheel lockup

  • @rebelyell91 thank you.

  • @rebelyell91

sure you can downshift at high rpm, you just have to release the clutch slow

  • oh koool i guess it is in phoenix. You should come visit my neighborhood sometime. lol. show some wannabe riders near my house how its done.

  • so wen u shift down you relese the clutch. thanks man. these vids really help. and there not half bad. ther gud

  • @DIENAMICProductions, NO you hold in the clutch whenever your changing gears, Upshifting or downshifting. some bike riders upshift without holding the clutch but doing this for a long time damges your bikes transmission. when your downshifting simply hold in the clutch, brake so your at a low rpm, downshift, THEN release the clutch, if your coming to a stop then just hold in the clutch, put in first gear, then stop while holding the clutch. then just let go when your taking off again

  • That's mean.

  • Who would want to get it on hardcore with a ninja...that could end horribly :(

  • What gloves do you have? Are those SP-2s or SP-1s?

  • So im taking the basic rider course for msf and having some trouble breaking and downshifting all at the same time, haha i always end up looking down and getting yelled at, any advice? also what bike did you use for your course?

  • Practice Practice Practice.

  • Good video once again. I was wondering if you ever considered buying a digital gear indicator, they look neat when installed properly imo. :D

  • I have a question about downshifting to a redlight. Do youu have to hit the throttle in between downshifts? Do you brake while downshifting or is downshifting a substitute for braking

  • Matches revs to the rear tire speed is always good for smooth downshifting.

You will get the hang of it though.

and you brake and downshift at the same time, but mainly brake

  • i want to know do u have to shift up when u get ready to go.like why cant u just stay in 1st gear.or just go to second will ur bike still like go realy fast

  • no if u stay in first gear, it will stall if u go too fast.

  • you will stall if you go to slow. if you go too fast you will blow the motor is you stay to high revs for long

  • You get distracted easily huh?

  • after a while do u just shift naturally without even thinking about it?

  • definitely.

  • I would assume its the same as driving a standard truck or car. it all just becomes muscle memory after a while and some practice : )

  • when u did the first emergency stop how come ur rpms didnt jump so high up cuz u went from 6th to like 3rd pretty quickly is it just braking hard?

  • braking hard enough yeah

  • i love the ending. its by far my favorite

  • thanks (:

  • To go into first from nuetral I need to press down.

But going from first to second, second to third and so on i need to pull up right?

  • correct : )

  • do you ever feel like people think your nuts if they can hear you sitting at a red light talking away when you have the shiny visor on? lo;

  • Lol, all the time.

Sometimes I get embarrassed, but it depends :P

  • do you usually use your front brake or foot(Rear) break when your stopping normal at a red light or stop sign?

  • both brakes should be used.

but i ussually do around 70% front 30% rear

  • dude but shouldnt u almost always use your rear brake because if u use your front brake theres a 70 % chance ur gonna flip?

  • yes, always use both brakes (unless you are in slow 0-1 MPH turns use the rear only)

  • hey my mom doenst want me to get a bike at 16 do u now anything i could tell her to let me lol?

  • i just did it im 16 and i just got one and my 20 year old brother and i just did our research and bought one and we had told her like a month before we got it and there was nothing she could really do

  • @snoopydawg23 U get teh ladies with it.. maybe she wants grandchildren? :D

  • @snoopydawg23 The front brake has 70% of the total braking power of the bike.. So the rear only 30%

  • lol what the did you do at the end ?? you're not suppose sit on your gonads ...you're supposed to swing to the side when you ride for crying out loud .keep doing that and you wont be able to sire a son

  • the ending...wasnt that from a video a long time ago...u did something when turnin in to park...lol y is it here? as an ending?

  • yeah it was :P

  • your a joker, u point at random things and people don't know u r filming, so they probaly think u r weird!!! lol =]

  • yeah I always wonder what they think :D

  • when you down shifft, do you hold onto the clutch?

  • Hey rebel. were you blipping the throttle at all in this vid when downshifting? i was wondering if you have to because im going to be riding soon. It sounded like you was but was that just the rpms going higher when you released the clutch?

  • almost every downshift I was matching the revs with the back tire speed (take practice).

"blipping" the throttle just makes downshift a lot smoother, you don't necessarily have to.

  • Oh ok thanks. So say I wanted to blip the throttle, what order does it go in? Do you downshift keep the clutch in and then rev the bike?

    thanks

  • u ever tryed to go from high gear to neutral and just coast

  • shift down? who needs to slow down :P

  • Lol i try and do 7th all the time.

  • if im approaching a red light, is it bad to hold te clutch, and go from third to second, then to first, all without releasing the clutch? is that bad?

  • that is slightly alright.

But let's say you are coming up to a red light, and you downshift by pulling in the clutch and everything

if it goes green when you are going 20 MPH (slowing down) then you will need to be in (not in 1st) to get going again - does that make sense?

  • dude, there is 4 round-a-bouts in my town of seven thousand. Annoying as hell.

  • Ahh my balls hurt :D

  • Hey i gotta a question i just got my 250R and well im breakin it in right now but the dealer said about 600 miles and it should be broke in but is it ok to hold that bike at 60 mph? and say even interstate speeds at like 75 80?? im just curious b/c i just feel like she's gonna blow up lol

  • after 1000 I'd say you can keep it at interstate speeds for awhile.

but I wouldn't do it at 600 miles.

    lol

  • nice whats it hold at at interstate speeds???

  • thanks guys

  • when you down shift do you let go of the clutch or keep it held down and just keep shifting

  • Thank you guys (RY & True2blue)!!

    Practice makes perfect...

but you gotta know what to practice first.

You cleared my doubts. I had a hunch, but it was all blury.

Allright, now it's time 2 hit the streets and practice some engine braking and some bleeping of that throttle (...of mine...)

  • Hey Rebel, you rock! There are some things I don't understand...

First issue: say you have 65mph and need to stop in like... 5-6 seconds. When you brake, you downshift also. Problem is, how do you actually do it?! You're in, say, 6th and you need to get in 1st in 7 secs.

  • Hey Seth, thanks!

1st: If you want to brake and decrease your speed really quick You'd ussually:

    1. smoothly apply the brakes

    2. Jack hammer on that shifter down (to shift down to 1st) while the cluth is pulledin.

Or if you are really skilled you can actually use engine braking that fast as well. but that's practice.

  • how i would do it is like rebelyell said, smoothly get on your brakes, give it gas while on the clutch so then shift to first, make sure you have it reved so that you dont jam any gears and no offfense RY but it sounded like he was supposed to hammer on the shiftlever. dont or the gears will eventually jam...just dont forget to rev and clutch and it should do fine

  • good info sir. (:

  • Second issue: How do you feel about bleeping the throttle?!... Please, be more specific on that matter. For example, take youtube user 'Cirsory1' - 'Down shift rev match'. Watch it (20secs)

    and PLEASE respond!

    RESPECT!

  • is the camera illegal or somethin

  • are u asian?

  • half, yes

  • Wait a minute.. Is yoru backpack attatched to your jacket? I can`t tell but it looks like it :P

  • Lol it seems like it is, but it's not.

  • Hey Rebel, I have another question lol

Do you blip when downshifting and is it necessary to blip?

  • when it's necessary to blp the throttle while downshifting I do it. Most of the time I do.

it's all about matching revs with rear wheel speed.

  • Hey Rebel, what kinda RPMs do you give it when you blip? What is a good RPM blip range for the 250? (where it becomes too much or too little)

  • Great Vid. Liked how you actually showed us the gears on the screen when you didn't say them.

  • :D I love trivium

  • U gotta love the acceleration.. look at the right side mirror from 7:11 to 7:23 BYE cars lol ^^ nice

  • fun stuff :D

  • any bikes that shift on their own, sorry i know im a noob to all this motrorcycle stuff, but your riding like a manual car any automatic bikes ?

  • very few are automatic

  • lol your funny ! why did you say look at this guy?? and nice sportbike!!

  • Thanks!

idk I just decided to give him attention. :D

  • do you release the clutch after every downshift? you came to a stop so quickly that I would think it'd be rather difficult to do that

  • for the most part.

  • ah sorry I should've checked your comments first. I see you were asked the same question plenty of times.. but thanks though!

  • Wow, i really need to learn to downshift instead of going straight to neutral when im stopping in my scion.. i'll end up jerking and die when i get a bike. yikes!

    awesome vids!

  • yeah get practicing :D

  • hey what would happen if the cop saw your camera?? and you should make a video of how to wheelie the 250r.

  • Comment removed

  • when you brake, do you hold the clutch in when youre breaking and or stopped?

  • im gunna edit the crap out of " oooooooo nice motorcycle" lol

  • do you not blip when downshifting on purpose? i find it feels hard on my 250 if i don't blip..

    nice ending btw :D

  • I do

  • what is "Blip"?

  • A "blip" or "throttle blip" is when you slightly rev the engine as you pull in the clutch to downshift (fast and smooth). this speeds up the engine so when you let out the clutch the bike doesn't suddenly jerk or decrease speed due to the downshift (excuse my non technical explanation).

  • thanks alot man.

  • lol nice intro :P

  • so when you shift down at a light do you let the clutch out every gear or just hold it as you shift down?

  • for the most part let it out every gear

  • 1:18- hey your high beam warning light is on! Good thing that cop didn't notice. hehe

  • lol. what the heck was that at the end??? haha!

  • Hey man really nice videos you have!

My question I was actually pondering was, Is shifting the motorcycle somewhat familiar to an actual truck? Like if you let off the clutch accidentally, will that make the 250r go to a wheelie and possibly flip the bike on top of you?

    Thanks in advance!!!

  • shifting a motorcycle is the same concept as shifting in a manual vehicle.

and thanks for the support :D

  • i cant wait to get my first bike. I am getting a ninja 250. they are awesome. i love your videos. keep em coming. they are very informative.

    - EAT RICE

  • Thanks for the feedback man! eat rice :D

  • Rebelyell91 is a legend! But the wide straight open roads of America would drive me insane, so boring!

  • lol I'm no legend.

and yes, here in Phoenix it's so flat (desert) it's all straight and wide.

  • i assume your supposed to pull the clutch shifting down right?

  • yes

  • your cool, nice vid!!!

  • thanks Jeff :P

  • Hey Rebel I love ur vid's b/c u just rock and my dream bike is a 09 250r but the green monster aditon 1.

I have 2 questions. 1st when ur breaking and down shifting u u leave the cluch pulled in? or do u let it go and pull it back in evrey second?

2nd. would u be able to break from 65mph (just saying and on 5th gear) all the way down to 0 whit out down shiting? if so why or why not?? plz and thank you

    ur awsome.

    eat rice! =D

  • Thanks man glad you like the videos.

    1. I use the brake and downshifting (engine braking) at the same time

    2. and from 65 - 0 You could just brake without any engine braking. That's what the MSF teaches you. BUT I think it's wayyy better and more efficient to use the engine to brake with you

    eat rice,

    Rebel

  • Have you seen "steelhorseclub's" version of your videos ??

Its sorta similar, i think your videos are awesome and they are good to learn from :)

    Keep up the great videos

  • Thanks man, and yes I saw the Steelhorseclub video parody :P

  • when you shift down you can hold the break at the same time?

  • it depends on the situation and how fast I want to slow down

  • i mean like is it ok ..like it wont damage anything?

  • nnope

  • i saw a dude riding the other day and he was ether swimmin or happy to get a new bike but i was at a red and when it turned green he cluched it then let it out in hight 1st and let therpm hang high for about 3 seconds befor he shifted

  • Nice vid reb, glad you FINALLY used my vid suggestion. Only took a few months =P haha.

  • Lmao, I KNow right!

sorry for the few months :P

Glad you liked it though :D

  • Did you cut your hair? :D

  • lol yes

  • wat do u plan to move up to after 250

  • cbr 600RR

  • that bike is soooo freakin awesome ... but i also like YZF R6 very much has an awesome styling too ...

  • Comment removed

  • nice cop spotting skills those come in handy when doing a hundred and five lol

  • lmao exactly.

  • I like your gloves! And your backpack...

What college do you intend to enter? Your comments about your high school remebered me to ask this...

I always forget to ask something...

    ride safe, lots of rice...
